    I usually add a half teaspoon of baking soda along with the baking powder because it works with the buttermilk. In my opinion, only actual buttermilk should be used. That lemon juice trick on regular milk just isn't the same. And please buy yourself a biscuit cutter. You'll be glad you did!

    • @jamiewreyford3958

      She didn't use lemon juice, she said white vinegar.

    • @kathleenstoin671
      @kathleenstoin671 Год назад +2

      @@jamiewreyford3958 Yes, she did say vinegar. It's the same principle, though. Lemon juice is sometimes used to make "buttermilk," as well as vinegar. I've been cooking for over 55 years and I've tried both. This "hack" for buttermilk substitute is not going to give the same results as actual buttermilk. Please just buy real buttermilk for recipes.
      You can freeze buttermilk if you wish to keep it on hand. However, it will separate when thawed. I just put it in the blender or use a hand held blender to bring it back to the normal consistency.

      Everything may be a factor, from how much/ what type of flour used, the temperature of your kitchen or countertop, how much you worked the dough may be what happened, with biscuits you CANNOT over work the dough, otherwise they’re NOT soft & fluffy. Maybe watch a few biscuit videos to get the general idea, and adjust for yourself. I hope you make some bomb biscuits next time! 💕 these are a few things I learned too!
