Hi everyone! Just to clarify for those who are coming to this video that are not from America. This is an American style biscuit, which is very similar but slightly different from a scone. American biscuits typically call for buttermilk while scones typically use cream. Scones also often contain egg while American biscuits do not and biscuits also have a higher fat ratio which creates a more flaky texture. These are typically eaten as a side dish to a meal or slathered in sausage gravy for a meal on their own. What people in England (and some other parts of the world) call a "biscuit" is what Americans call a "cookie". Hope that helps!
@@jeanflavin1720 yes you can also add a tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice to your milk (better with full fat milk), stir and let that sit for about 10 minutes to create a buttermilk type substitute.
I have struggled to make biscuit for 50 years, I'm 59, I followed this recipe and they came out amazing! I mean I was so bad at making biscuits that my mom used to make some and freeze them for my husband's birthday so he could enjoy home made biscuits! My mom's been gone for 14 years now so he hasn't had a good biscuit until now. Thank you
Wow..same with me! I'm going to try this recipe...:-) I'm the same way with bread. But I found a Copycat outback steakhouse recipe...and made the honey butter. Great recipe and I always freeze the second loaf...which tasts fresh baked after it thaws out!
Have been baking professionally for years, and LOVE the step by step instruction that includes not only the "How"... but the "Why". You leave nothing to the imagination, and speak slowly and clearly enough to not overwhelm the beginning baker. I liked this a lot... nicely done.
My grandmother from the south used to make these when I was little and no matter how hard I tried I could never figure out how she got them layered. Until now. When I saw you layering I remembered her doing that. Thanks so much. Can't wait to try this.
I just want to thank you, these biscuits turned out perfect. I live in Florida, it is always to warm even though we are in November. To keep my ingredients cold, I freeze my butter, and grate my butter with a grater I also placed in the freezer while mixing my dry ingredients. While at it, I placed my measuring cup and buttermilk in freezer until I was ready to use. I also sifted my dry ingredients together. I was very happy with how beautiful they turned out!! Thank you😊❤
Oh my God. So....I have never made biscuits. Always been intimidated by baking in general. Biscuits especially as I've always heard it takes a while to get them right. So, this is the video I chose to go by, and holy crap on my first attempt, I made perfect buttermilk biscuits! PERFECT. Cookbook photo perfect. They tasted great. I followed the recipe to you exact direction. Thank you so much!
Wow, it’s amazing how the simplest details make such a difference. I used lard instead of butter then hot out of the oven put some southern style sausage gravy on top of the biscuits!! Delicious
Love the way you explain and clarify things, which seems humble, friendly and gracious, oh ... and informative too, definitely. Seeing how you cut and lifted the raw biscuits (and left nothing to waste) tells me you're a profound baker/cook or someone I can follow and trust. This is my first time watching your video and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for all the tips. ... Oh your biscuits look really good, too!
I don’t make biscuits often because they are dense and heavy and my family likes a lighter, fluffier biscuit. These were so good!! Very easy to do after watching the video and they turned out perfect. Definitely my go to recipe from now on. Thank you for sharing this video and recipe. 👍

Just made this and omg I can finally make homemade biscuits 🎉! Thank you! I scrolled down through so many videos and I’m glad I decided to follow this one!
Hi sweetie I was finally less fearful of a disaster in my kitchen and so felt VERY INSPIRED TO MAKE THESE GREAT BISCUITS(which I WANTED TO MASTER FOR YRS. SO this BEAUTIFUL WINDY SUMMER NYC MORNING. I used mostly vegan organic ingredients like almond milk and avocado butter w/flax the results were Amazing super moist beautiful and very flaky I use vinegar since I didn’t have lemons and that’s the only thing it doesn’t really taste like butter milk no sure if IT WAS SUPPOSED TOO but THEY DO taste really good maybe I should’ve use more vinegar in my almond milk I have dairy allergies and lupus so they’re many ingredients I CANNOT CONSUME. PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR OPINION ON THIS MATTER .
I made these biscuits for my bowling league a couple of weeks ago and I must say they and I LOVED them. I am making them again tomorrow because of popular demand 😊. They were so soft and flaky and they paired great with my homemade Italian style Turkey sausage patties. Delish!! Thank you!!!
FAN-tastic video! I'll just reiterate how GENTLY to treat your dough! It's like when you're making dumplings: you can control how firm your dumplings are simply by how much you work your dough. If you treat dumplings too gently they can be so soft they'll fall apart in the stock/broth. Or you can work the dough harder and get tough dumplings that hold together well and IMO make better dumplings, especially for chicken and dumplings. But for these flaky biscuits the gentler the better! Thanks for this excellent biscuit video!
I'm glad you enjoy them! I do have a quick cinnamon roll tutorial already you can see here: ruclips.net/video/FoTaChNAk1o/видео.html& I have making a more detailed talking tutorial on my list!
I have made biscuits multiple times. And this are by far the best. One change I made was I used 1 stick of butter (8 Tbsp) instead of 6 for a nice buttery taste
I replaced the buttermilk with sour cream and my husband loved them. They were extremely soft on the inside. I added two tablespoons of raw sugar to the recipe and used extremely cold butter.
I just tried it, but it is too salty. I used regular table salt and the liquide (buttermilk substitue) was only 1/2 C cause the dough was already moist.
This is now my go-to biscuit recipe. I used Bettie's pastry method of flattening the cubes of butter with my fingers and tossing them in the flour. I pour most of the milk in, but (as my common practice), hold some back. While I'm mixing, I slowly add a little milk as needed to make sure I don't end up with soggy dough. Formed a shaggy, loose ball with my spatula and put the bowl with the dough in my freezer while the oven heated up. The result was tall and flaky biscuits.
It also really helps the biscuit in my two cents worth by how you cut it out. Using a biscuit cutter by simply pushing down, not twisting does the trick. I had to use a can when my cutter was “borrowed” but all I did was gently push down without twisting in any way.

I try this recipe and hubby and brother in law loved them. Just made some tonight. Thank you!
So great to hear!
I haven't baked anything by myself in years... I made these and they turned out wonderfully. Thank you.
Glad you like them!
All you need is a Southern accent and you’re in the know! 😉. I grew up in the South and this is exactly how I make biscuits but I just use my hands in the mixing.
Haha! Glad you approve of the biscuits!
@@BakerBettie 😉❤️
@Tim Duenas 😂😘

So glad!
England here, with my first time making your biscuits. 😊
Enjoy!
This is my recipe. Just didn't fold. Thanks for that tip
I made these biscuits this morning and have eaten four thus far. Sooo good. Thank you!
That's so great!
THE best biscuits I ever tried to make. 😋
So glad you enjoyed them!
Wonderful! So glad everyone loved them! Happy bowling!
I'm here cus its Thanksgiving and I dont have biscuits 🤣🤣🤣
I'm here because of my cooking teacher lol
Brandon Tatum and candace owens brought me here
FAN-tastic video! Thanks for this excellent biscuit video!
thanks for the tips!
Amazing 😉 love your videos
Teach us how to make cinnamon rolls
I'm glad you enjoy them! I do have a quick cinnamon roll tutorial already you can see here: ruclips.net/video/FoTaChNAk1o/видео.html& I have making a more detailed talking tutorial on my list!
I have made biscuits multiple times. And this are by far the best. One change I made was I used 1 stick of butter (8 Tbsp) instead of 6 for a nice buttery taste
Sounds great!
I replaced the buttermilk with sour cream and my husband loved them. They were extremely soft on the inside. I added two tablespoons of raw sugar to the recipe and used extremely cold butter.
Biscuits. Here in australia they are scones. Bicuits here are thin sugary or some with filling between two biscuits.
Almost the same recipe as my Grandmother's and they are good.
So great to hear!
Great explanations and demonstration. I especially appreciated the use of a pastry cutter, and the demo of how to get layers to the biscuit.
Glad you liked it!
I'm at it again I'm making your biscuits 😋 my favorite yess thanks for your work
Those are beautiful!! I could eat the whole pan!! Thanks for posting.
You are so welcome!
I just tried it, but it is too salty. I used regular table salt and the liquide (buttermilk substitue) was only 1/2 C cause the dough was already moist.
If you use regular table salt, you need to weigh it or use less. It's finer grain than kosher, so more salt will be in a given volume.
These biscuits are so good, this method really makes tender great tasting biscuits..
ms.Bettie please tell me HOW to make scones.I will look for ur Recepi soon
You can see my scone recipe here Rose: ruclips.net/video/1WnItrntnR8/видео.html&t Enjoy!
Thanks for sharing! So glad you like the recipe :)
It also really helps the biscuit in my two cents worth by how you cut it out. Using a biscuit cutter by simply pushing down, not twisting does the trick. I had to use a can when my cutter was “borrowed” but all I did was gently push down without twisting in any way.
