  • The best treatment for a pinched neck nerve (causing shoulder pain, arm pain, rhomboid pain, or pins and needles or numbness in the hand) involves 3 key motions: retraction, traction & lateral flexion. These movements give the greatest relief from ‘cervical radiculopathy’. So, here are the best pinched nerve exercises.

    5:23 Posture is the key!
    THINGS TO AVOID. IMPORTANT!!
Looking at your phone in a flexed position on the sofa, or in bed, is THE most common cause of nerve pain down the arm. So, lift your phone to a higher position when you sit, and lie on your side to look at devices in bed (with your phone on the pillow next to you).
Exercises for a pinched neck nerve that are best to avoid: Try not to look up too much when you have a pinched nerve causing arm pain, as this will compress the nerve more. And avoid exercises where you lean towards the painful arm.
    CENTRALISATION
You’ll know you’re improving if the numbness, pins and needles or pain down the arm (or upper back pain) starts to recede towards the base of the neck.
    WARNING SIGNS
If you start to get prolonged numbness in the arm or hand, or any muscle weakness in the arm or hand… go straight to your doctor.

I have had neck pain for nearly 3 weeks, but because I’m allergic to NSAIDs and codeine, I have only been able to use paracetamol for pain relief. Unfortunately, paracetamol has not been effective in alleviating my pain. I have sought help from a physiotherapist and my GP, but the exercises they recommended actually made my pain worse. After trying numerous exercises from various sources, I found your video that has provided some relief. The pain has subsided, although I am unsure if this relief is temporary. I plan to continue with these exercises to see if they continue to help. I am grateful for the correct guidance and demonstration of the exercises in this video. It is frustrating that many videos I have looked at before finding yours, has provided inaccurate advice. Thank you 😊

About 25 years ago I had a pinched nerve in my neck so bad that I was losing grip strength in my left hand. While the exercises prescribed by my PT were helpful, the best thing he did for me was to question me about my sleeping position. We figured out that I was often laying on my side but slightly rolled over to the front. This forced my head back, hyperextending my neck and pinching the nerve. He taught me to train myself to sleep on my back with 2 or 3 pillows to keep my chin tucked in. I haven't had any neck/shoulder/nerve issues since.

I have been suffering from constant tension in my sholderblades, shoulders and neck for 1.5years now. It's like these nots, especially somewhere under my shoulder blade, and it always makes me want to crack my neck or back for a little relief. It began after I fell really hard directly on my right shoulder, incidentally hitting the right bottom back side of my head against concrete. I experienced torturous pain for 3 months, and over the following time the pain became less consistent, but still present during most night, or whenever I would sit for longer periods of time at my desk, or after working out my upper back. I went to hospitals and physiotherapists, but not once did anyone say anything about my neck. "Your shoulder is fine, nothing is broken, no tears, you are good" HOW ?? I AM IN PAIN.
I cant believe it took me s long to see your videos and realize it was my neck all along. I made an appointment with a chiropractor in a couple of days, to avoid self-diagnosing and finally hear the truth from a professional. I just did the 2nd exercise from the video for the first time, and i don't know if it's because I'm still on a painkiller (which, btw, painkillers don't help that much with that pain, it makes it just a little more tolerable) but i don't feel the tension right now. I can cry, I am very grateful for people like you who share this on the internet and give us a chance to feel human again. Thank you.

Unbelievable I’ve been in worsening pain for 18 months!! I was beginning to think there was a more sinister underlying issue , I didn’t have much tingling or pain in my arm as such more a discomfort, the main issues were really sensitive side and top of head and especially base of skull and neck I’ve tried everything to no avail, after the first few exercises especially tilting the head to one side and looking down on the first day I felt immediate relief! Amazing I’ve continued to do so over the past few days and feel like a different person, I think seeing from the model what is happening certainly helped I can now target the area more and more, I’ve had the best nights sleep than I’ve had for months , many many thanks indeed , also this would have cost me a few sessions with a physio at £40 a time I can do these stretches anytime for free so your time is much appreciated

@@user-zu1ix3yq2w So as for all serious injuries, you will never progress really fast, but I can say with certainty that the pain/tension has really gotten a lot better in the past few months (was mostly stagnating before, not getting noticeably better or worse). Especially in the areas that the exercises targeted.
I've been doing them every night for at least 6/7 days a week if not 7/7. I've also been doing a lot of weight lifting on the side. Notably for the shoulders and upper back + a bit of weight training directly with my neck (so the progress might not only be from these stretches).
I think that 6 months to a year from now my neck/back should be back to normal. The initial injury was in early 2020, and I started therapy towards the end of 2020, really crazy the amount of time it takes sometimes to fix things...

just discovered your videos. they are very helpful. there's a lot of other videos out there which help to some degree but not like these. finding a good doctor/practitioner where I live is difficult so I try to do a lot myself.
I liked the first exercise best as well as the 4th one.
I sometimes experience nerve pain going from the collar bone to my left chest and also left arm. sometimes also on the right. that used to be from the back (my scapula) to the left chest but I managed to get that sorted. my heart's also already been checked (even did a catheter), heart function's fine, no blockages. so I assume it's a nerve issue.
would it be possible to do a video on that?
anyway, thank you for putting out these videos. much appreciated!

Pain that goes from the collar bone to the chest usually comes from a restricted clavicle. The most common cause of that is a restricted Sternoclavicular joint. I have two videos on that (because it causes AC joint pain too) so try those exercises if you can.

I've tried all sorts of stretching or gun massages but the pain just kept lingering. Then i tried your exercises today (which are similar to the stretches i usually do, so was naturally skeptical) and surprisingly, it relieved the sharp pain immediately, esp with exercises 1 and 3. There's still pain for sure, but that instant sharp pain when i do a cow position was gone, now its more of a soreness.
