- Howdy y'all, thanks for checking out this latest episode! So much to explore and new places to discover in my backyard of Big Bear. Today we are going out into the east valley, past the Big Bear Transfer Station (former landfill....now landFULL) up forest road 3N16 to check out the Lucky Baldwin Mine. We also pass by the historic ghost town of Belleville, but didn't stop because there isn't a lot to see except an old cemetery. During the 1860s, Holcomb Valley was the richest gold mining area of southern California, supporting some 10,000 residents. Belleville, the largest town in Holcomb Valley, almost overtook San Bernardino as the county seat. Further up the trail, across from the Lucky Baldwin Mine is the old Doble Mine, where the stamp mills would echo their slams across the valley as the valuable ore was processed. The trail continues up past the fire scar of the Holcomb Fire from 2017, and views of the high desert towards Lucerne Valley emerge. The trail gets a bit rocky and require the lower clearance vehicles like mine to slow down and carefully pick the best line. After that, the dirt turns a brilliant reddish orange, then back to granite-brown as we start to see some snow packs that still remain on the north facing slopes. A few more minutes of puddles and the occasional big rocks then the spot to change from car to foot. Let's find that waterfall! (if you just want to see the waterfall footage, skip ahead to 9:25)

Nice vid. Love the background info. We rode through that area this weekend on the bikes. A lot of fairly deep water crossings with the occasional slip-n-slide on the remaining snow patches. Weather was perfect for the ride.
That would’ve been great to get out on a ride, it’s one of my favorite seasons to be brapping on the trails
Great video. Love the historical comments. Where is the terminus of the stream? Does it flow into the lake?
Great question, it actually links up with the creek that flows parallel down with Highway 18, on the west side at first and then crossing underneath a little ways down, it’s flowing good right now just like it was last year, a rare site though in the last 20 or so that I’ve seen
Looks like a fun day of adventuring. Will the waterfall flow all summer do you think?
It was a great time! I don’t think so, I would bank on going back there now, and only finding a trickle 😢
Hey Daniel, did you bring a gold pan to Gold Mt?
I have, in fact, never tried gold panning, that’s something to add to the list, though, would be the year for it with all the creeks running so good
Rodi and hope your welcome
😸😻
Nice Vid but you should keep Matts # close by !!!!
Haha! I hope I can afford his services! 😂
Anyone see that snake?!😍 lol I would have pulled over and picked it up
At 5:43
SNAAAAAAKE!! Wow I perhaps didn’t notice that I remember seeing a couple of chipmunks - across from the beginning. We just found a cool 3 foot gopher snake down in the high desert last week. I’ll have to look through the video and see see if I can spot it!
