    Your trip looks like something I can look forward to do in the future.
    My wife and I are going to Cairns, Karumba, Port Douglas and where ever else we end up next month. Got a full day fishing trip booked in Port Douglas. Fishing in Karumba is down to only two charters now, due to Covid-19 affecting the local industry. We miss out on a spot. Only limited spots for each boat. So we will sight see etc.
    Thank you.

    Wow bring back the memories mate !!! Great to get a glimpse of Tien, we have all aged a little. So my understanding is the lodge that used to be run by Terry and John has changed hands, are they still living there ? Forgot the name of the bloke and his Asian wife who used to hire the tinnys from Ballarat is he still there ? Best regards Frank

    • @MikeyCunninghamFishing
      @MikeyCunninghamFishing  4 года назад +1

      You know the whole crew mate.
      Terri and John sold the lodge the Ash. Terri still lives at King Ash Bay but sadly John (Turd) is no longer with us.
      Tien is still there upstaging the young fellas.
      And the name you were thinking of was Steve and Cheryl. They were at KAB last year. They have 2 beautiful young children now.

    • @frankgrima401
      @frankgrima401 4 года назад

      Mikey Cunningham sorry to hear John has passed, great bloke, I came back legless a few times from the bar with him. Yes that’s him Steve, another friendly guy at King Ash. Gee the shots with the drone appear to show a build up of sand around the boat ramp. Which way do you go out to the island via the Mcarthur or the Johnson river ? I must plan another trip up there, as you mentioned it’s a great place full of great people. Thanks for the info and videos. Do you ever fish near the entrance to the mine at Bing Bong?

    • @MikeyCunninghamFishing
      @MikeyCunninghamFishing  4 года назад

      You’re definitely showing your age now mate. “The Johnson” ... if you said that around King Ash Bay today most people would know what you’re talking about. I only know The Johnson because I saw it on an old map once.
      The Johnson is known as the Crooked Creek now.
      But I just wonder if you were talking about the Carrington Channel rather than the Johnson??
      To get out to Wiyibi, the best way is the Carrington Channel.
      If you were going further East, say to Vanderlin Island, you would go the Crooked Creek for sure.

    • @frankgrima401
      @frankgrima401 4 года назад

      Mikey Cunningham yes I believe that’s right Mikey the name changed to the Crooked Creek. I left my old Toyota Ute their for the commitee to use. A grey deisel Ute, the man where the Ute was parked passed away and somehow the Ute finished up at the guy with the barge that was in your video. He is the last lot on the rivers edge towards the end. The Ute was knicknamed the “pig” and was used by many with a lot of work and towing done around King Ash. Our annual fishing trip usually involved one week fishing and we then took the “pig” to do some hunting at Spring Creek station, not far out of Borraloola compliments of the Mauson boys from town. As a life member we always did at least one or two jobs that needed doing at King Ash. I never volunteered for the bar or kitchen as that was for those that had property their but there was always plenty of Maintainance and things to do around King Ash or other members that needed a hand. I would assume that King Ash is still on geny power from the shed at the rivers edge. Missed this years easter comp. I understand that you can now fly in to Borrooloola from Darwin and they hire cars in town that you can drive around in. Great place. When we use to hire the lodge Terry would give us the “love shack” room up front and she would bake us a fresh loaf of bread every day to go fishing. Sad to hear many have passed on, Val was a demon on the water, on one fishing trip we overstayed and low tide was a challenge, but rather as stay out the night she bought us home on a cup of water, missed every sand bar and she knew where the fish were. We normally bought home enough fish to feed many at King Ash. Great times great place to unwind, my sons and grandson, friends and people that I have introduced to the place always rave about the good times their.
