I used to have the same issues with Shimano. I actually came unclipped and smashed my knee on my stem and broke my knee cap. Switch to Time after that, until HT came out. Love my HT’s
Thanks Barry I have been back racing four year now. I'm 42 years old and intermediate. I fought with my handle bars for ever. With this video I know not to stress some things so much. I follow all your videos and they have help alot. Thanks for everything you do for the BMX sport.
duuuuude, I finally got my answer about psi! thank you! I'm definitely around 35-40 right now & I felt I was wrong but wasn't sure. Will be fixing that this evening on my bike & my sons!
Your intro is killer. I’ve intentionally ran my son’s tires with less pressure to prevent him washing out when hitting turns hard. He runs Maxxis dth tires. We’ve had good success with this setup and he can hit turns with more confidence especially when it’s wet. That said - I’ll probably inflate his tires a bit more going forward. I don’t think anything makes up for skills and practice but I’ll never turn away good advice. Congrats on your wins this weekend!
Thanks for the video on this topic. My son is 4 weeks into BMX racing and I have so many questions. Finally got a bike to fit him, so it was great to see how you "look" at your set up. Going to Vegas in 10 days, hope to see you there and say thanks in person.
Hi Barry! My name is Barry 😂 I was wondering if you have done a video about crank lengths. People get caught up talking so much about gear ratios and all but I would think crank length would have some part to play in that as well. When trying to figure out crank lengths there’s a lot of charts on the internet and they’re all different. I’ve fallen into categories from 150mm to 185mm. I’ve started building a new cruiser, I have a 32” inseam and I’m planning on trying 172.5mm crank arms. I’ve always ran 180’s but after a few knee injuries, a reconstructive knee surgery and being a 40 year old plumber my knees don’t bend and rotate like they used to 😂 so I’m looking to try something different but want to have the least trial and errors as possible as it can get expensive. Love your videos and the info you share! Thanks!!!
Perfect video just got from Stuttgart, Deutschland my DK "ZENITH DISC PRO XL" 2022 BMX RACE BIKE - BLACK. Answered everything I need to know thank you. Ken Portland, OR.
I'm a downhiller, but these are actually good tips for downhill too. Steeper levers give you a bit more of an aggressive position and imo more control. With how long and slack DH bikes are getting, the extra weight on the front is actually a good thing and it's not as much of a risk as it once was of going over the bars. Arm pump really sucks on them but since my laps are really short, I don't mind the discomfort for more control. Those HT pedals are awesome, I run the HT X2's and I couldn't be happier. I never understood why so many people liked crankbrother's clipless pedals.
Just curious Barry if you got a big race coming up how far out do you taper off the weight training. Also the week of do you just rest or still do some sprints and track work ?
I run them slightly forward from parallel with the fork. More forward give a little more leverage on the gate snap. But too far forward will if as if you loose a bit of control on the track as the steering seems more responsive
unsprung weight and rotational mass is huge...anything that spins in a circle make it as light as possible without sacrificing strength and integrity of the component.
Hey my daughter is starting she has an older free agent team micro mini nice little bike. So what do I get! I’m not rich but I need something! I had a 50$ intense pro xl I wanted but it sold I feel like I messed up. Anyone kno a place we’re older race bikes go to die cuz I need one 😊 thanks love the videos
Hey Barry, came across your channel a few weeks ago and I am going racing this year for the first time since 1996!! I wanted to know if anyone is running tubeless in BMX? I've been mountain biking for several years and know the benefit of tubeless there, but not sure if it's a thing in BMX. Any thoughts or opinions you could share?
@@barrynobles95 Thanks man! I may give it a go after a few race weekends. Just wasn't sure if it was a thing in BMX yet lol! Awesome channel, my kids are also hooked now too 😄
My 9 year old is doing really well and about to move up to intermediate. He is asking if I can get him a cruiser so he can race more than one time per day... Any thoughts?
@@barrynobles95 you deserve that and much more. I watched my kids ride for a few yrs before rhey asked me to join and man I'm addicted and have a whole new respect for anyone that gets outthere and rides especially someone like yourself. 🙌🏿Much respect brotha.
Great video. You didn't talk about crank Length

“Just take sit and relax “ best advise for a lot of people
Thanks for the tips brotha, getting back into riding now as an adult and your vids are great and help a lot 🤙🏻🙏🏻
Thanks for your video's! Much fun and lot of info 👍 How about chain tension? Do you have tips on that? Greeting from the Netherlands! 😉
Lots of info packed in this video. Well worth the watch.
Your videos never disappoint, my man! I Mtb whenever I can, but started my kids into bmx racing last week. 🤙
HT flats also have great grip. I run the ANS01 and they have grip for days.
Thank you!
Thank you for your sage advice!!
so what about cranks & crank arms ( lengths) ,,, got 1-3 pc cranks , & the arms 175mm or 180mm .
Whew!!! I thought the “track dads” with the rollout and gearing only annoyed me LOL!!!
Face it Barry, this is Willow's channel. Where's the Willow's Dad t-shirts? 👕
😂 you so right
Awesome thank you Barry
this is gold, i've always wondered about the difference between 20 mm and 10 mm.

Absolutely. That’s actually where’d I learned how that all works!
I always check tire pressures and adjust, a flatter tire is harder to push than a pumped up one.
Lol, nice intro! Are you coming to Maryland anytime soon?
BRB, going to pee on my chain now.
😂😂
Love the guns on the wall 😂
😉
Great stuff, thank you for uploading this video. PS: "Track Dads" lol
Aww good Setup soo cool top Quality top Clip
ODI
Absolutely the best!!!
i ride 45 to 50 psi, i’ll take the tip. also what about cranks
How about the cranks?
good tips !!
Great tips bro.thank you.
Are you going to sell your merch online
After this weekend I will
I vote for willow T-shirt’s in September for her bday month
Do you ever ride cruiser anymore?
How tight or loose should your chain be?
1/2” slack at bottom center confirmed by “pros”
Chain tension?
Just curious Barry if you got a big race coming up how far out do you taper off the weight training. Also the week of do you just rest or still do some sprints and track work ?
I’ll train normal up until the week before. I’ll have 1-2 light sprint sessions leading up
You mentioned bar height but could you explain more in detail where you like to run your bars at for optimal power out of the gate?
I run them slightly forward from parallel with the fork. More forward give a little more leverage on the gate snap. But too far forward will if as if you loose a bit of control on the track as the steering seems more responsive
@@barrynobles95 what about height? How high do you run your bars?

My son is 7 year old / height around 1.2m. Any idea what is the suitable BMX size for him?
Do you race with your finger on the lever, like in MTB, or just put it on it when needed?

Eh. Not my thing. I don’t have much knowledge on them
Video drops... ODI runs out of grips....lol

I run 40 PSI with Comp 3s every track
I always put 80PSI in both tyres and every sometimes I clean my bike.lol
I was a low tire pressure guy 😆 🤣
What if the tire pressure on the tire says 60 max
It’s a bmx tire that says that? What brand?
@@barrynobles95 just picked up a pk ripper elite 2021 the side of the vee tire says 65 max psi so I put 60psi
You ever try the Maxxis Relix. Watching your file work I’m guessing, never ever.
Just not a fav
Do you charge to come over to the person's house and help them out
It’s normally hard to work in my schedule
What does a bike like yours roughly cost?
Crank arm length
Did I miss cranks?
True, miss long of the cranks
I actually completely forgot that part 🤦🏻♂️
What questions do you guys and I’ll answer them here
@@barrynobles95 172.5, 175 or 177.5? Long
Does anyone in bmx wax their chain?
My tires max out at 60 psi anyone have a tip either run max psi in it or new tires?
What brand?
