And yup great to be able to have the facilities at hand as some say sometimes it's just easier to out source the work if you just can't do it yourself . Could be time frame or your guy is not available to do the repair . Thanks for sharing the video Anthony
Hi 👋. Northern Michigan here. I didn't know that about the axle. The rubber bushing inside that axle...that is. You're teaching more than just the young man next to ya. Hats off to ya friend. Keep up the great work!
Well I am not a welder the best I am as a welder's assistant I can grind A mean bevel but honestly I never wanted to be a welder I could run the daylights out of a torch several years ago but regardless you are good and you are willing to teach 16:26
I respect you so much Anthony because you share everything but I can hear from the machine your wire feed speed was too low lol it’s okay most of us can’t touch your stick welding because you are one of the goats
Got a boat trailer a while back with a drop torsion axle on it. I went to do some mods on the axle and guard mounts to allow me to fit larger tyres and I found some dodgy brothers repairs had been done on it, the bar holding the stub axle to the main axle had been replaced with just simple box section steel, and it was also badly rusted to boot. I had a set of springs and hangers in the spares bin, so I just got rid of it and replaced it with a normal spring mounted drop axle.
When ya think it's just 1 crack. It turns out 1 side is busted to hell, and the other isn't much better. This is a prime example and I wish more people understood that it's never just as easy as "it'll only take 10min. Just put a little weld on it".
Great video I just wanted to make a suggestion. When I have something heavy to grind off and I need it done quick I use a 3m brand cuboid disc we use them on pipe all the time and they make quick work of grinding which I hate. Just a pondering you may want to try. Keep on burnin!!
Hey Anthony, Jose from Puerto Rico. Pretty wild fix man! I wanted to ask you where can I get replacement shielding lenses for that Clearmaxx grinding mask you used in this video? I have the exact same one you were using.
Ive owned a trailer a trailer shop for 21 years. That torsion axel is bent on the inner solid square bar probably. It’ll start eating tires soon enough. There is a system used to check alignment that I doubt was used.
Couple of plates bolted to the hubs. Measure at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock can help you determine camber and tow. Use the frame of the trailer to help to check symmetry.
got any tips on uphill? i can make a 7018 look okish and be confident in the strength, but with mig solid wire especially on my root i cant get that shit to sink flat. humps up in the middle so damn bad, sags out and wont burn into the sides of my triangle or weave. ive gone from stupid cold to retardedly hot and everywhere in between and cant get that shit right. its driving me nuts. thanks
what do you recommend for us young guys to get into the industry? ive been attempting to find a welding job for the last year or so and it seems incredibly hard to get into. ive got certifications, just can't get the calls back.
Yo as a guy who does the same kind of shit on the daily brake wires dont matter they will ground either way Aslo if you take the hub caps off the spindles have centers you can measure off of too make sure the axles are squared to each other
Man a lift would’ve made this job a whole lot easier but I love how you attacked it as is and demonstrated how it would be in a real life setting. Meaning that in the real world it would’ve been done on the side of a road or a parking lot with minimal tools. You and I C Weld be turning out more welders than schools 😂. J/k but you guys show and teach what a text book can’t. Keep up the great work brother! 🤘🏾 #hooddown #up10
I love MIG welding the old stuff a little bit harder to use because you get cold lap especially when you're just tacking those new inverters have inductance control you can set the inductance where it Heats it right up right now virtually no cold lap with the new stuff but I do love me some Miller 252 they're good welders but I do realize in your situation you couldn't get it too hot because of the dampener inside the axle I do not like those I have burned a few of those up good job though
@MeltinMetalAnthony another thing I do with the older mig welders is I start 1/2 ahead of the start of the joint to be welded and then back up to the start and then go forward this helps with preventing cold lap. And when I get to the end of the joint I get to the end and back up about a 1/4 inch and get out of it that fills craters
@@MeltinMetalAnthonyits a dial inside of some miller wire feed units but aside from arc dig labeling you can really dial in arc length and width " spray triangle/cone " for aluminum.. great for inside tube ends on railings where you dont wanna show welds on a hidden wall mount etc

MMA what up brotha, I've been running an onsite and offsite welding outfit for a few years. I'm blessed, no complaints. Here in southeast Missouri we run river jets. Alot of aluminum repair. I've always built up equipment mainly for intentions of mobility. Ran off my miller 400 pro. Came across a much younger version of ol boy melting metal Anthony From years back. Long story short. Do you have crazy insurance? My company just left California and apparently most of them have as well. Anything to do with flames and they're out! It took me a week of screening calls and online bullshit to get turned down at every turn. They specifically said no auto work. I got a year policy for structural steel erection, and welding, including marine work for 3800 a year, but they all are clear that I can't weld on anything automotive. I will, but not insured for it apparently. Any thoughts? I know that everyone in Cali is ue happy and I should probably just sell the house and buy or build a nice shopartment somewhere else, but have you ever been to Santa Cruz? I've traveled and lived all over, but I always end up back here.

Great repair video!!
Surprising this guy had a shop and so much equipment and yet hired out the repair.
Having equipment doesn’t automatically mean you can weld out of position. If those welds fail someone’s going to have a bad day.

Nicely dine, Anthony! What wire and gas? Would flux core do a fine job on that trailer repair?
Flux core runs hot asf but yes it would
Hey Anthony what is that little level thing ,I don’t see any link
That was neat. I'm wondering what gas you're running, I was hearing the MIG trying to go into spray transfer, but it can't hold it.

Thought that axle should be bolted onto chassis so it can easily be replaced
What u want to do is run water on them or use wet rags. There's four rubber cords in that axle that you don't want to hurt
I'd say that trailer has been arount for a while with the drums rusted through in places.
