I was a diesel mechanic for over 30 years before I retired, and for you to do this job I commend you for doing a better repair than most of the people I've worked with. The only thing I didn't see was you did not adjust the brake, but the driver was trained in driving school to do that, so it was his responsibility to do that.
@@MeltinMetalAnthonytighten them til it stops then back off 1/4 turn for drive axles. Steer axles back off 1/2 turn. Some slacks have to have a pintle pulled out while backing off, others have to have the bolt head pushed in while turning. Pretty easy once you do a couple.
The end of the video had me laughing out loud. I would’ve kept a can of brake clean in my hand for the ride home waiting for one of those evil bastards to jump out haha
Love it! Done this many times except for the welding part! Thanks for my dad is the best! Appreciate it while you still have him! I did and it made me a better man!
Here's a quick tip instead of using that nut to release the brake chamber, as long as it is connected to the air lines you can just tell the driver to release the trailer brakes and that rod will pull in. If you want to be safe just tell him to keep the truck brakes on. Love the channel I hope the next one is easy money with not bees lol.
I just watched this video, I work on trucks and trailers. Those bolts are called cage bolts, the sell a very deep socket just for those. You did an outstanding job, even without ever have done it before. Get you a Milwaukee 1/2 in cordless impact, it will save you time and effort, and your make more money.
Next time you work on a brake chamber like that to reinstall all you have to do is have the drive release just the trailer brakes (Leave the tractor brakes engaged) and the shaft will recess back into the chamber allowing you to easily install it back in place. You may have to back off the slack adjuster (The arm you ratchet strapped) but, if you do mess with that adjustment, after installing the chamber while the brakes are still released on the trailer run the slack adjuster all the way back in pushing the brakes out to the drum then back off the adjuster exactly one half turn with your ratchet and the brakes will be perfectly adjusted and done. Much easier and faster than having to take the brake chamber apart like that for sure.
The easy way is to use wheel chocks on tractor and trailer and remove the air park brake. The s-cam brake lever also has an adjuster to get the arm out of the way so you don't need a come along. A 1/2 inch ratchet with a 7/16 socket is you need.
Best grinder ever. I hate bees and other stingy things. I got attacked bad years ago welding pipe. I was laying half upside down in a trench and got swarmed by wasps. I got stung about 20 times. Nice job. For someone that's not a mechanic, you did great.

Dude... I can't believe you call yourself a mechanic... JKJKJK Thanks for everything you do Anthony!!! So appreciative of your willingness to share all this information and skill with us!
I was taught to always capture and collapse the spring before you remove the brake chamber. It is a 1500 lb spring inside there and where I work in NewYork they are usually rusty and about to fail. Scary.
Good job! Easy money! If you want to get it done faster next time forget the grinder use a arc gouge and I don't even bother to switch to a stinger.. just grip the 1/8" rod in the gouge turn the amp down and air off ...weld it out.. I do it twice a week as a road mechanic.
I always enjoy you sharing your knowledge And wild experiences..hope you were Not allergic to bees. Stay Safe. Keep posting cus I have a long ways to go To get to a fraction of your skill.

I've heard that your suppose to be able to weld in all positions. I thought they were talking about the metal and not the person doing the welding. Under a truck?
Lol that made me remember the time (as an apprentice in a fab shop) I had to weld the floor of a trailer back to the frame... Went in and the busted weld was near the axle, somehow I thought it was a great idea using the axle as a pillow. I mean, it was comfortable, at least until I had to change the rod and started dancing under there lol
Good shit Dawgy!!! Done this myself on my equipment…got to do what you got to do… Wish I could say I don’t carry an impact cuz I’m not a mechanic…but I’ve got to keep trucks running…any who…good real world shit
I know this is an old video but I have/use belt sanders to get into small, hard to reach areas. You can reach down into really tight places. Mostly use the 18x1/2" but the smaller one is 13x3/8" (I think). 60 grit almost cuts as fast as 36 grit but last twice as long. Oh yeah, search Sea to Summit head net. You could keep it in the glovebox for emergency's. They're like 13 bucks.
Wait till you have a call that they want you to cut off and replace any of the hangers or equalizer brackets. That's when it sucks but it is good money. By the way you need to get a quarter inch right angle die grinder with some 3in 3M cubitron discs it makes life way easier while working on heavy equipment in tight places
YIKES! I am allergic to bees. I have been a mechanic, but cars & pickup trucks, not done a lot toward big trucks. I had a former friend that drove, we are no longer friends, & I did a lot of work for him, but I once turned down a job, he was thinking of going from box van to flatbed, found 1, wanted me to look it over before he bought, I found over 100 cracks in frame, 40+ down each side, front & rear, and looked like twisted frame, I said I wouldnt touch it, a few cracks, sure, but that thing was abused & was ready for farm duty, not on road traveling USA. those long nose grinders look neat, not bought 1 yet, I did get a Makita X-Lock for Christmas, for a system to throw in car for taking to repair, I like the quick change & not looking where tool is to remove grinding disc, usually burried bottom of the tool bag, 99% of work I do at home, I stopped doing field repairs for most part in 2012, but slowly doing some. I still have my engine drives, but I will throw Generator & grab small stick welder, or MIG, and small torch outfit, maybe 1 day I will put engine drive back to work, but not used either in 9 years. had a Lincoln Ranger9, & a Hobart Pipeline welder with the Willys engine
You should get a 1/2" impact, 15/16 socket and 3/4" socket and extensions if you find you do more of those jobs. Out of four years of working on trailers I've only seen that happen once, where the bracket actually broke off.
I've done a lot of those brackets, you're lucky to have as much room as you did on that trailer. Do one on a low boy or a drop deck or worse than all, a livestock hauler with a load of fats.
You did a very good job as for the bees they might just be looking for a place to set up a new hive they do that all the time a new queen starts a new colony they might have smell your after shave or something why they came at you
Which Miller machine is on your truck? That was pretty funny you running and swatting at the bees stuff falling out of your hands. Good laugh at your expense. Keep it coming, keep it real.
I weld fairly regular outside under a covered area. You might not believe this until you try it yourself, if you use double pulse mode every wasp, Honey Bee, hornet in the area will DIVE BOMB you , your helmet and te weld pool directly under the mig gun. Glad I didn't find that out under a semi.
