Big Tom and me knock another column job out for this Home improvement store.
After the first 14 we did I would say we are pretty much pros at this point. But every job has its mis haps. Following some Bad advice I make a mistake and cost us a good amount of time! The life of a welder fabricator isn’t all sticking pieces of metal together, sometimes it’s installing them too. But we’ll do anything for the money! Well almost anything. Make sure to like and subscribe, and will someone please help get Tom sponsored by Bang Energy already? I’m getting sick of them getting free advertising from the man!
Here’s a few of the tools I used in this video-
    Metabo grinder- amzn.to/3kPWA3i
    Uvex face shield - amzn.to/3qOIaEi
    elgin ruckas headphones- amzn.to/3x3RdCl
    Black stallion Gloves- amzn.to/3x39nEm

Wedge anchors and put the nut a few threads past flush and pound them in and tighten

The venting at the bottom is so when they dip it in the galvanizing tanks the fluid moves freely through it. Whenever I built structural that’s where we put the vents.

Yeah, I always put the nut on before placing the anchor. Best way to make sure it doesn’t mushroom the top. Idk why people would choose to not put the nut on first.

I work in plants and refineries, and we always put the nut and washer on the anchor bolt before hammering it home. If it doesn't go down all the way, then spin the nut down and cut the top of the bolt off with a cutting disc or bandsaw and make them all uniform height.

That's a good client you have man. Nice work! Same thing happened to me first time I didn't put the nut on before pounding it in. Now my son is 6yrs old 🤣 best thing I ever made.

Great video. I’m at the end of my welding associates and it’s great to see practical welds and real world jobs as I slowly enter the trade for real

I just found your channel yesterday and I’ve burned through a few hours watching already. Love your informative content I think you’d be a great teacher when you get old and your body falls apart from contorting it into awkward positions and moving steel you have no business trying to move. Ha

I always leave the nuts on anchor bolts and wind them down below the impact head. That's how they are designed to work.

This Home Depot is the one I go to, I live right down the street from it. So cool to see you worked here! I’m currently taking welding classes so hopefully I’ll be doing the same type of work you’re doing soon. I think I’ll check these columns out myself tomorrow.

Hello Anthony, love the vids been bingeing on them. I've set lots of anchors and there's a tool you could use on your roto hammer to set the anchors it's called a set tool. Just set the roto to hammer mode and it never mushrooms the end. Keep up the great work.

I put the nuts on before pounding in anchors about 98% of the time, as long as the nut is a couple threads below the top it's good to go. Sometimes there's cases that anchors can't be pounded with the piece installed, and need to be embedded before the part goes in. When I need to pound in an anchor without a nut, or need to be able to take the nut back off, make sure your hammer is contacting the anchor correctly at 90' and it will not mushroom.

My favourite bit was when you were struggling with the column, Tom just comes in and muscles it hardcore.
