I have a friend who used to be a service advisor at a JLR dealer who said even new vehicles that came in for there first service were accompanied with an A4 sheet full of problems to be sorted... He left there and started the same job description for a Lexus dealer and when I asked him how the job compared to his last he said it's so different it's not even funny ! Customers would come in for a 100k service and when quizzed if there were any problems that needed attention they said NO everything is working perfectly thanks ! Say no more !

I had an interesting Landrover experience recently. Heading up the highway out of the city here, the traffic ground to a halt (on the uptrack) where looking across the highway I saw a lady standing next to her new Landrover with the bonnet up and an AA van in behind. While I waited a tow truck arrived an pulled in front to load the dead Landriver. Slowly our traffic lanes started moving and eventually up the hill around the bend we came across the source of our holdup, another new Landrover was being pushed by a bunch of people to clear the lane. Ive never seen dual failures of the same car simultaneously before. Maybe they all stopped everywhere.. lol

I never got the point of taking something meant for hard work and rough terrain, then turning the inside into something you wouldn't dare wear a pair of muddy boots in. I used my mate's 110 defender for deerstalking and shoot days for years. It had a fully metalled load bay, you could chuck 10 fallows in the back and then hose it out with the power hose used to fill the farm sprayer. You could get 3 in the front, 8 beaters in the back plus dogs and a few on top or sitting on the bullbar. It needed uj's frequently but never got stuck. That's what a Landrover's for, the new ones all look like a tart's boudoir. The old girl's still going, though semi retired now. The beaters used to call it the Deathstar on account of the amount of carcasses it used to carry. Final comment on JLR - looks great, don't work.

Way back- in about 1978- my brother bought a brand new MG Midget.
Inca yellow with black rubber bumpers, delivered to the dealer with 26 miles on the clock.
He got rid of it after about 10 months, because he only actually got to drive it for a total of 4 weeks. The rest of the time it was in the dealership, being repaired or, more commonly, waiting for a spare part that couldn't be sourced because Longbridge was on strike again.
You'd think things would have improved in 45 years..................

Hi Geoff: just thought you may be interested: I was driving down the A19 near York this afternoon on Shipton Road southbound. Near a roundabout at the end of Shipton road there was a totally burned out car in the layby on the northbound side. Police had closed the road, possibly for forensic investigation. The car was the sole vehicle in this incident. The car was basically a burned out shell when I passed it, the driver had apparently slightly burned hand/ hands. In the news items online in all the York news it did not state the type of vehicle anywhere. I believe it may possibly have been a Tesla, or very similar shaped EV. There did not appear to be a radiator, ICE engine etc, the bonnet section was just collapsed burnt ashes on the ground. I highly suspect this may have been an EV; however, it is very suspicious how the news and media have not mentioned the type of vehicle.
An ICE vehicle usually does not burn out the complete vehicle - a classic sign of an EV vehicle fire.

My XK 4.2 came back from Jaguar (after 5 months waiting for a fuel pump module) with parts missing. The battery cover boot trim, which covers, battery, sat nav dvd and electrics. Total denial from the dealer that it was ever in the car. Also missing were clips and bolts to hold down plastic covers over engine and there were chips and scratches down the passenger side of the bodywork where it had been parked for months and dinged by other cars doors. Absolutely useless. I use a Jaguar specialist now, faster, cheaper and more honest and reliable. JLR are useless.

We had a brand new Jaguar XJ Sovereign TDVi in 2008 and it spent more time at the dealership than on the road. By the time it had done 1,500 miles it had gone through 3 transmissions (ironically the transmissions were ZF - a German make). I wrote directly to the head of JLR and that really set the ball rolling. Amazingly the next replacement transmission was perfect but the car had so many other faults. We eventually sold the car at 5 years old with only 5000 miles on it and purchased a Mercedes-Benz. We have stayed with Mercedes since then and have never had any problems with the 4 that we have owned. Got to admit that the Jaguar dealership were excellent at customer service but crap at repairing cars!!!

It’s the parts manufacturers that are the problem not JLR assembly so much, JLR basically just screw shit together, I was employed by an agency specifically to inspect one item at a firm in Studly Warwickshire,( on the left going towards Brum, begins with an R)because they were just making scrap, I had to inspect & repair seat pans, holes wouldn’t line up, bad for quick assembly, and the holes for the seat belts was so sharp and serrated it would cut through the belt, when I asked if it would be cheaper to make new tooling I was told JLR wouldn’t give them time or a price that would warrant a break in production, I had a bollocking one day because I hadn’t repaired enough that day and the lorry was waiting , if he didn’t arrive on time they would refuse them, so it was my fault that they were making scrap components that couldn’t be delivered on time, I had to adjust and repair every single component that day, 16 pallets, 16 on a pallet, the was one Polish guy who was drilling holes with the tip broken off the drill and had hadn’t noticed. After 3 months I quit, basically I was an inspector that they didn’t want to inspect because it was causing problems.
This is a very condensed post of what happened
