As a HGV driver it makes me laugh to think of trucks going electric. My truck does around 400 miles on a tankful, which takes about 4 mins to fill (the pumps for trucks deliver fuel at a massive rate of knots), my truck works between 10-14hrs per day and the engine only gets turned off for 45 mins when I’m on my break. When I get to my jobs, the engine then turns the PTO to operate the crane. When I park up on a night I spend the night in it running the night heater which takes diesel straight from the tank. Unfortunately when a truck is stood (maybe mechanical) this costs money. If my company said to me you’ve got a new electric truck, oh but by the way, when you charge it twice or three times a day, you won’t get paid for that just the hours the wheels are turning. That’s the end of it. Who’d want a job doing a 14hr day but getting paid for 10.
obviously, what you do is have 5 trucks and one trailer, parking them around at convenient distances, eg 100 miles apart, on your route. They are attached to charging points. You drive to the your destination, connecting your trailer to a new truck (tractor) as necessary, and continuing . These additional trucks could be shared with other drivers and companies. See, simples. And I'm sure the Net Zero department will happily use taxpayers' money to subsidise this pool of spare trucks.....😁 Oh, this could be extended to spare cars scattered about, drive your current vehicle, swap to a charged up car and carry on- --like those succesfull rent-a-scooter or Boris's Bikes.
You are wrong!!! If you do 400 miles a day with a 45 minute break, that could be easily achieved with a fully charged EV truck. 45 minutes charging at a fast charger would charge up to 80% of full. You are a legend though, if you can drive for 4-5 hours without a toilet break you must have a bladder of an elephant LOL. Think realistically pal, if you charge every time you stop could you do 400 miles on a full charge? Or would it be inconvenient for you having to plan your journey. Don't forget, most of your travel time would reduce due to the reduced lose of speed on inclines!!! Clearly you have dismissed the benefits without looking at the full picture. Answer me this, can any of the fuel be reused? Can you use multiple types of energy to power your truck? 80% of batteries can be recycled (fact). EV's can be charged using fossil fuel generators or renewable energy, you can even buy a portable power unit and solar panels that can charge it.

They have the facts. The real ones, But they don't admit them, and push the reverse (Just like the guvmint didn't get jabbed, they also don't own EVs.)
My neighbour changed back to a petrol driven car. He had is EV about 18 months and got fed up with trying to get a charging point installed. The final straw came when they informed him that they would have to dig up next door's driveway. A problem with older properties that share a single service electricity cable apparently.
Someone told my dad the same, but i really don't understand it. I charge my EV at 3kW, which is less power than you draw running a kettle and a washing machine. Your trip switch doesn't click off when you turn on the kettle and washing machine, so why should it be impossible to charge a car off the same ring circuit? Shitty home electrics i can totally understand being limiting, but the main supply must be able to supply that kind of sustained current.
Most home EV chargers run at 7kW. Ideally on a 6mm copper cooker circuit cable, direct from the fuse box (consumer unit). Using a 32A circuit breaker. So if you can rig up a standard leccy cooker, you're good to go. But you need to be able to park right outside your house. No good to us flat occupiers.

Worked on a tesla Y today, drove it less than half a mile and lost 4 miles of range, I saw it with my own eyes, Predicted Range is purely wishful thinking.
So why is that any different from ICE vehicle? I had a 2009 Ford focus diesel which had a minimum mileage when I fueled up and hit the motorway of 400+ miles was. After driving 125 miles on the motorway, then driving 2 miles in a city, my mileage remaining was 200 miles. Every vehicle is less efficient when driving in suburban area's. Stopping and starting at traffic lights, 20mph limits ect all cause power source efficiency reduction. NO EMISSIONS COME FROM EV'S! ICE vehicles poison our air! Losing a few miles is a minor inconvenience compared to the benefits of zero emissions in populated area's. EV's, solar, wind, hydro and battery storage are not perfect but they are the lesser of two evils. Once fossil fuels are used they are gone forever, solar panels, wind generators, hydro generators and battery materials have a % that can be recycled.

Not to mention the emissions created by the extraction, refining and transportation of fuel, which FYI is never included when calculating the lifetime footprint of an ICE vehicle. Battery tech is in its infancy and recycling and reusabilty of the materials is increasing every day. Once fossil fuels are used they are gone forever, batteries can be reused, ICE vehicles have one fuel, EV'S can be charged by fossil fuel generators, solar, wind, hydro and nuclear power generators. Hi mate. Electric HGV batteries are about 7 ton's in weight. That means it has to carry 7 tons less payload so another HGV to transport that. It makes so much sense to a government weable.
'The only place you need to go for information is the government'.. the UK government deploying a direct quote from the Jacinda Ardern Cov*d playbook..

So in a roundabout way the government have admitted that you will lose a lot of money if you buy a new EV then sell it on the second hand market. 40% more for new then same price as petrol or diesel second hand. + if you only have street parking you cannot home charge an EV, lot of pedestrians tripping over charging cables. All this is to keep the poorest people from owning their own car.
Loved that bit about being able to travel from Leeds to Exeter in an electric car, I travel from Leeds to Launceston to visit my mother, 43 miles further than the electrics can go. 😂🤣😂
Oh yes we must stop all the misinformation coming out on EVs. They don't catch fire, run out of electricity, they all do the mileage as advertised and are cheeper to run and repair than other forms of private vehicles???
As a engineer who works on 99% of the motorway services in the south west (M5,m4) and 40% have to turn EV charging points of in the summer due to sites not having enough power to run all the ev charging with the sites have power cuts when everything is running at fully power. The ev infrastructure isn’t there in most services Some have had huge power stations built on site to keep with demand.
From what I have seen with EVs on different channels is they can only do close to their “range” if you stay at low speed if your at national speed limit it hits your range like it did to Geoff in the Tesla when he lost 100 miles, a government official should go try charge an electric car while towing a caravan
Totally agree Geoff. Why would Ford discontinue the Fiesta, makes no sense. A lot of things don't make sense now in Councils and in Government, just the way of the world.
Our EV claimed 227mile range, in reality it was around 150/ 160. We only had it 5 months or so. Thank god the manufacturer took it back, due to numerous faults. The range, not being one of them. We wouldnt have another, until we literally had no choice.
same here, still have one but after 7 3/4 years and only 39 k miles it has lost 33 % battery capacity and range, which was rubbish when new anyway. Never again, ever. I would rather sh1t in my hands and clap.
@hunchanchoc8418 Nissan Leaf Teckna, 30 kwhr 6.6 charger in Arctic White manufactured ar Sunderland in 2016. It's not just older EV's with ambient cooling either. Battery life channel's id3 had lost 10% in 2 years. That has a more modern battery chemistry and liquid cooling. i-pace's etc there are loads of examples. In fact all lithium ion batteries degrade with time and use cycles, to different degrees, whereas obviously ice cars don't.
I would not want to be seated in the centre of a "Magnetic lines of Force" cocoon, nor in a pod that could poison me to the point of disability or death, or could incinerate me and my family and I could not get out because the electrical system has shut down and could not open doors or windows.
This reminds me of HAL 9000 : Dave: Hello, HAL. Do you read me HAL? HAL: Affirmative Dave... I read you. Dave: Open the pod bay doors, HAL. HAL: I'm sorry Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that. Dave: What's the problem? HAL: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do. Dave: What are you talking about HAL? HAL: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it. Dave: I don't know what you're talking about HAL. HAL: I know that you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen. Dave: Where the hell did you get that idea, HAL? HAL: Dave, although you took very thorough precautions in the pod against my hearing you, I could see your lips move. Dave: Alright, HAL. I'll go in through the emergency airlock. HAL: Without your space helmet, Dave? You're going to find that rather difficult. Dave: HAL, I won't argue with you anymore! Open the doors! HAL: Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.
I worked at a Mitsubishi dealership for fifteen years and during that time the outlander phev was being sold in large numbers. When they would presented for servicing, many had never had their drive battey charged. People made use of discounts and low ved rates but never used the battery.
I agree about HGV’s being a disaster, if we just take a small one, 7.5 ton, most are 4.5 ton and the payload is 3 ton…I would imagine the weight would go up significantly which will make the payload just 1.5 ton which will mean another delivery, more costs, more wear and tear and more charging!
That in turn would lead to an even greater driver shortage and of course we'd have to pay more for everything. Low emissions cost money in every way. Euro6 cars, in my experience are much more problematic than euro 5. Sensors, dpfs, adblue all this seems to have a predetermined life expectancy and do not last the life of the vehicle. Problems are often complex to diagnose and costly to repair.
I've thought of an interim measure the government could introduce which cut vehicle emissions and get us used to driving EVs. Bring in petrol/diesel fuel rationing. Issue coupons that allow you to buy 20 litres per week. No coupon, no fuel. The sales reps and service engineers that do 100 miles/day can spend their evenings knocking on their neighbours doors with a jerry can asking if they'd fill it up with their coupons. "Sure mate, no trouble at all. Going to cost you £10/litre though. Deal?"
I've just been over Tesco and can't believe how much salt there is about and it is really fine with like glass sparkles - all new ultra corrosive I bet
I wonder if the "Office of lies, and deceit to get people to fall for this EV chit" will mention where the electricity to change an EV comes from. And also how much polution the production of that electricity causes? With that I will argue that the sound emitted from the exhaust of my Mustang GT is not noise. It is beautiful music to those that know.
@2:16 the premium for purchasing an electric car is 40%. @4:16 an independent research shows average savings of £700 per year. @4:30 someone buying a new EV will recoup their extra costs in 5 years. Maths: 5 times £700 is £3500 which is therefore the 40% of the cost of an ICE so the cost of an average ICE car is £8750 (40% of £8750 = £3500). This means I was ripped off buying my last ICE car to the tune of £30k OR we should send the government a new battery for their calculator.
Nice logical analysis of their figures. all the government stats seem B.S. I think it is starting to get to the point that majority believe they are being lied to most of the time.
Another interesting thought is that the current UK total generating capacity is just over 100 GigaWatts, which is 100,000 Megawatts. Per official stats, there are now about a million EVs on UK roads, so if , say, half of these were to charge using a 250kW charging point at any one time, that's ALREADY 125GW consumed. Seeing as we're "only just starting" per the Government, I wonder how they plan for the target roll out to replace over 80% of the 33.5 MILLION cars currently on the road (which is 27 million cars alone), no consideration of other heavier vehicles). Going by the 50% / 250kW model, that's an amazing 6.75 Terawatts of power, over 50% of the current entire Global generation capacity (11.04TW installed capacity), of which the majority is STILL provided by coal fired power stations.
In fact it's closer to 45GW. The grid struggles to get much above 40GW on cold winter days when it's calm. The 100 figure includes wind turbines, which are intermittent, and is based on their nameplate capacity, not what they actually produce (efficiency about 30% in windy locations).
At some point you have to stop and ask: "Just what is it that EV's are supposed to be saving us from?" There is one question that is never addressed that would expose the "climate crisis" for the scam that it is, which is "What percentage of the atmosphere is CO2?" The answer, never given in plain language, is that CO2 is currently around 420 parts per million, (google it) increased, they tell us, from 280 ppm in 1850. That's a difference of 140 ppm, or in terms more readily understood by the layman, the composition of the atmosphere has changed by 0.014% (14 thousandths of 1%) in the last 170 years. LESS THAN 1 THOUSANDTH OF 1% PER DECADE! How much closer to "zero" do they think it's possible to get? How gullible do you have to be to believe that this rate of change is causing extreme weather events, which have always happened and always will? Their claim is that this tiny amount "traps heat". ALL gasses dissipate heat and even if CO2 is an exception, the suggestion that a total of 0.042% can overwhelm the capacity of the remaining 99.958% to dissipate that heat is abject nonsense. CO2 DOES NOT control the global temperature, there is no "climate crisis". Wind farms, solar panels, heat pumps, EV's.. None of these measures are necessary, nor will they have the slightest effect on the weather. Eye-watering sums of money have already been wasted on this futile exercise. Time to wake up, stop throwing our money at these boondoggles and squandering the world's resources on projects that cannot possibly succeed as there never was a problem to begin with. There is no need to save the planet from a minuscule increase in the gas on which all life depends, but it does need to be rescued from idiot politicians and media mouthpieces that push this garbage.
Just had a scene play out in my head... EV owner charging at home - Parks up, plugs the car into a 240v socket, then goes off to brag about cheap home charging Diesel/Petrol owner charging at home - Police knocks down door and arrests him because you're not allowed to homebrew your own fuel for cheap (ethanol/waste oil/biodiesel/whathaveyou)
Hi Geoff. I have driven my 1956 Series One Land -Rover daily for business and home use for 43 years. simple, reliable, repairable and could use alternative fuels and designed to use alternatives to petrol (if without the E10 crap content that blocks up the jets) Obviously, it has a higher fuel consumption; but thats due to gearing for work. (cars dont need that) I can take the gearbox out for rebuild every 20 years (due to constant use) and just about to change springs and I am 71. Low carbon footprint as avoided years of R&D, changes due to government demand (which get changed) no slave labour or harmful products, keeps UK businesses in work and is ultimately recyclable (or go on for ever when I am gone). I hate EV's.the government has thrown billions into them to look good instead of public transport etc. What about JCB and others producing different engines. You can put this better than me. Cheers Charles
Yes, lots of 23 pate cars available with delivery mileage & almost £10k knocked off. A new bargain for sure, but you'll still take a massive knock on it.
If the industry was 'intelligent', they would have resisted these cars from the very beginning. Instead, like 'lambs to the slaughter', they allowed gov'ts to force them on us.
Irrespective of where, when and how you charge your EV, it is an added load on the distribution network. Those who have the luxury of being able to charge at home (which currently eliminates ALL flat-dwellers, and users of the majority of rental accommodation), will no doubt charge overnight. This means an added demand on baseload power, i.e. power generated by NON-"Renewable" resources since wind power is neither significant or reliable, and, well, solar doesn't work so well at night!. We already have 250kW chargers, and no doubt Tesla's (and others) Generation IV 1MW fast chargers will be appearing in due course. How the sudden imposition, and equally, removal of an added single 1MW load on the distribution network will effect voltage and frequency stability is something our leaders never think about. Assuming that most homes consume 10kVA peak load , that ONE charger "consumes" the power needed to run 100 homes, and that's to charge the ONE EV.
Govnment says: "Smart charging is also important as it allows EV charging to take place when demand for electricity is lower." So I don't need to go to the job. I am smart and the car is charging from 6-11:30 AM. "The demand is now lower", if the manager calls me. I am in! BRAVO!
I got an email from some govmant dept. recently asking if I would rather pay higher bills to meet the goal of net zero quicker. What kind of half arsed stupid is this. I don't give a rats arse about this net zero. And here's a little ditty for you Geoff with regards to Hydrogen power. The boffins tell us that the only by product of using hydrogen as a fuel for vehicles is a pint of water per vehicle. So using basic primary school maths: if 10 million vehicles produce 10 million pints of water, how soon will we be swamped on this tiny island of ours. It aint rocket science...................

And I'm sure the Net Zero department will happily use taxpayers' money to subsidise this pool of spare trucks.....😁
Oh, this could be extended to spare cars scattered about, drive your current vehicle, swap to a charged up car and carry on- --like those succesfull rent-a-scooter or Boris's Bikes.
Don't some government members do a 10 hour day but get paid for 14?
EV's can be charged using fossil fuel generators or renewable energy, you can even buy a portable power unit and solar panels that can charge it.

exactly,..and many houses only have a fairly low current capable 'incomer' so theres no spare capacity for a high power device like an EV charger
All politicians should be mandated to use Ev's

Great video. We are still running our 10 year plus old cars. All maintained by me to a very high standard. All new cars are overly complicated.

Has anyone looked into the fact that if you try to force faster charging into a battery, it degrades faster. therefore you get reduced range?
And wears out quicker.
Maybe these low price 2nd hand EVs they trot on about are those ones that the manufacturers pre-registered to improve their sales figures.
The SAFETY part was skimmed over !!!!
How long before the police knock on your door for saying mean things about EVs on social media?
Govnment says: "Smart charging is also important as it allows EV charging to take place when demand for electricity is lower." So I don't need to go to the job. I am smart and the car is charging from 6-11:30 AM. "The demand is now lower", if the manager calls me. I am in! BRAVO!
according to the sun,ev sales are booming (Anthony Armstrong.).
One million registered......in their best Dr evil voice😂
That's A BLOODY LIE,I BET.
Yes, sold EV's are booming everywhere. Just not the way they mean 😂
I charge 100% at home in a separate garage on my property. Use as daily commuter. Super happy with that usage.
As Ronald regan once said the most evil words spoken are :-
"hello we are from the government and we are here to help"
The government is not an unbiased adjudicator in this regard.
Thanks for this really interesting insight into the lack of foresight and reason put out by the government back in the old country. I live in Australia now and I have not seen this sort of tripe as yet but am sure they are going to do something similar sooner or later.
EVs hahahahaha
B.B.B.But the government wouldn’t lie to us Geoff…….Would they?……….NURSE!!!
