"Clearly, this port is soldered properly." You've got faith and great skills, Sorin! I would've been praying I'd soldered that charging port correctly - especially with horizontal and vertical pins that all need to make contact! Awesome work.

Thank you. You have no idea how inspiring you are. I found a new love,...electronics. My low water light stopped working on my coffee maker and I had to find out why it's not working. Water probes would never go 0L on ohmmeter and impossible to rig it. I added a 1M ohm resister and it works now! I fixed my laptop twice and learned how to use hot glue, fabricated ribbon connectors(cause I ripped one assembling) with super glue and a very fine file. I wished I learned this 35 years ago, because I just found my passion

In the NLBA software, go to "Check Cells" and then "Wake Battery", this will force the battery SoC to communicate again and it will then take charging current

hello mister sorin. thank you for creating all this wonderful video. I write this because I have a 60V 5A power supply which had the same protection as yours on one of your videos. and I also have the cables that heat up with the Current at maximum like you. the Manufacturer gave me a manual to follow to adjust the current meter omoin to 5V and touch the cables and adjust the current. BUT it all describes errors because the protection is the power supply fuse only and the power supply only. and is not specified that it does not detect any short circuit on the mother board. he speaks only of the protection of the power supply. the fuse for the overvoltage and the short circuit is to touch the cables together without breaking the machine. otherwise it never detects anything on a motherboard ( i have use translator i from Quebec ) my model power supply is ( Jesverty SPS-6005 )

    Nice job.
Another advice would be to left a battery Charging for an hour in the Nlba1. Some chips start precharging by injecting small charge with timeouts, untill voltage build up over 3...3.3v then it start charging normally. It was observed one such injection at the beginning of the charge.

    • @leerzeichen1910

You can do it with a linear power supply. V set to 12 and A set to 2

@@anshadedavana i know what you mean, but if that's the case you just have to put the probes after the SBS, if it's possible; if not than yeah, you have to buy that device. right?

it may go back to the same state if you run the battery to zero again...customer may not be able to start the charge again if it the SOC reads bad again....i would run it to zero and see if charges again, ...great video!

I think it was the reset in the NBLA software that fixed it. I've seen BQ chips that were unresponsive were crashed, but simply grounding the /RST pin temporarily fixed it. (I know you said it wasn't a BQ chip in this video).

lithium battery's that go to zero lose bias and need a little bump so the system can sense what end is positive. the battery may be good afterwards but it'll never be the same.

That's true but has nothing to do with the video. The battery was at ~3v / cell.

When the laptop is charging the battery correctly, what should the amps be??? I know you mentioned and you could see it on the device that it was .03 amps. What is considered normal? What range? What is abnormal?

Just by the way, I don't use such tool as you're using. When it happen, all I'm doing is charging the battery with my bench power supply and it reset itself if that was a firmware freeze. I don't know in which case this NLBA would help me. Any advice?

Thinkpads have the weirdest BMS from all other laptops I owned. Funny story, my Thinkpad has 2 batteries, both died at the same time (my guess some scamy update tried to retire them prematurely), I continue to use laptop on AC only I as always do and left both in after checking status of both visually and with a multimeter, both showed 11.xx V. One never recovered, my guess bms went into lock mode, other one started to charge 5 months after :) Capacity isn't great but it still works fine

in my experience to fit one of these type is the better option vs the type with horizontal pins on the underside of the port, you cannot see or know anything is correct. it sucks. this port is quite frankly a doddle by comparison, alignment is instant. if its in, its in.

Hi Sorin, that's why I personally HATE machines like the NLBA you mention: are a valid help if you continually update them (by paying a fee, of course).
Once not updated, quickly they became almost useles, since there are *A LOT* of new chips coming out almost in a everiday basis. that make the very same function inside the battery, but are different for any reason.
But these reasons there's not to aim to a better product (i.e. PC), only to complicate the things to more people, who believe that can use that info to work with; but this will be true only for a short period.
    SAD

Why engineers pushing type c port to use for charging with high voltage and current nearby data lines? There has to be a charging port only use for charging.they re designing it for broke the laptop after a few time insane

I hate till date those laptops for those ports. I've got as well one Lenovo here and each port cost about £10. When I see those vertical and horizontal pins, I start to pray :D (I'm not a religious person). These are the worst when at the first attempt you can't insert it and £9 is going to the bin.
