That Atorch usb tester, the sticking out usb C plug is an input, you have to use a usb c to c cable on the usb c output into the laptop, and to power it, use a usb c laptop charger plugged into usb c input. You might need usb c input power turning round if it doesn't work at all. And pressing both buttons on the front together cycles through some additional options.
no idea why they didnt clearly mark it same as the other ports..

Sorin, I just looked up online for the operation of that ATORCH unit and found that the male usb C port on the top is actually an input. The usb C output is a female port on the lower right corner of the unit. You will need a usb C male to usb C male cable to connect to the laptop. Great job in diagnosing the issue with that laptop.

That power tester you can also supply from the power supply. There’s a barrel jack there as well. Or, as others already mentioned, USB in, that’s how I use mine

Atorch is pd control tester, you need power supply laptop with PD controller.
So you can test laptop pd chip if it's working.
Check PD controller.
connection (CONNECT ONLY TO)
1.Connect the usb c output to the laptop.
2.Connect your Laptop power supply down and left to the usb c input.
If you want to connect your bench power supply connect to the input/dc 5.5
Maybe the Fnirsi USB C meter display isn't cracked but not making good connection to the PCB inside? Looks like it's easy to take apart (screws).
Though it is nice to see more technical troubleshooting details (and less "dodgy"), but don't lose the fun.

This chip heats up a lot, which leads to damage. It would have been better to add a thermal pad to duce the heat on top of it
I believe Fnirsi USB C meter can be repaired, probably broken some connection. You use it all the time but not gently.

Sorin I have this meter, it’s shitty but it works. There is another piece that attaches to it and then you have pd support out of it.
My USB C tester also needs an additional USB C cable to work. Poor design but it works.

I think you can repair the meter by teardown it and reinstall it again; i think it an old display issue like legacy calculator machines that happens when it drops the flixable connector needs some calibration.
The best charger usb-c tester is Power-Z KM003C by far. By the way, isn't this integrated circuit programmable?

Hi, what is creating the low path resistance from some coils to ground around 4-6 Ohms?
In case of older Thinkpads only possible case of being "dead" was the user.

hello everyone, does anyone know how to program this RTS5455 and if anyone has the Firmware? I have the same laptop with the same problem and changed the chip and now the laptop turns on but doesn't detect the charger and sure enough it won't charge. if i charge the battery externally the laptop works until the battery runs out. I couldn't find the data sheet for this chip, only something similar and it seems it needs firmware. Thank you all!
