One thing I really like about Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything is that they released Transmuted Spell metamagic, which lets you spend a sorcery point to convert one damage type to another as long as it’s acid, cold, fire, lightning, poison, or thunder. It’s perfect for expanding limited spell lists, and getting around resistances and immunities. I’m gonna take it through the Metamagic Adept feat for my current sorcerer build, who is also coincidentally a cryomancer.
A sorcerer with transmuted spell and a 2 level dip in Tempest cleric is absolutely terrifying. Not only do you gain heavy armor and shield proficiency but you could do something like this: “I cast Cone of Cold, I transmute it to thunder damage and I use my Channel Divinity so I do max damage instead of rolling. So that’s 64 damage, 32 if they save.”
Ice-focused characters are my favorite elementalists, but their options are woefully lacking. If WotC could add more frosty spells, that would be great.
@@kingdomkey01 I'm just shocked Tulok didn't say that WALL OF ICE, if directed the right way, could be an ice ramp... And I think Warner Media, by way of Netherrealm Studios, may own the Cryomancer concept verbatim, copyright-wise. So...SUBZERO WINS...LEGALITY.
I had a sub-zero version of the cryomancer build for Decent to Averness that ended at 7 levels of sorcerer and 2 levels of monk. He was a surprisingly effective melee character with shadow blade. My favorite memory was dropping a sleet storm right in front of the group of hell riders that were chasing us that we’d bunched up. Fortunately our DM was generous to rule that the vehicles had to make dex saves. Glorious carnage.
I like this build! I tried making Iceman into a D&D character once. It was almost the same thing except I multi-classed into Warlock so I could get Armor of Agathys and the Tomb of Levistus invocation.
You could also take the Icingdeath's Frost spell from the Draconic Options UA (if your DM allows it). It's a 2nd level spell, which is available to Sorcerers and Wizards. It forces a Con save in a 15ft cone, dealing 3d8 Cold Damage on a failed save, and reducing the target's speed to 0 for a minute (or until it uses an action to break the ice). It deals half damage and doesn't freeze on a successful save. And, as the ICE-ing on the cake, it doesn't require concentration. Not as useful as Hold Person, but it can be useful in certain situations.
I still remember when Jean outed him against his will and when they asked older Bobby about it he lied and said something about thinking the school full of allegory’s wouldn’t have been tolerant or something
@@Ghilannugs Yea seeing as the person that forced him to come out was the person who can not only read other's mind but also manipulate it; Still don't know why Marvel thought it was a good idea to do that. Hey Tulok, could you consider building Kipo from Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts? Assuming you haven’t seen it already, it’s a great show to watch as well, and it’s one of my favorites.
@@Gabe600 well I was actually thinking something along the lines of moon Druid or path of the beast barbarian, but I am very interested to see what Tulok would do, plus he needs to watch that show lol
I did this kinda build a few months ago trying to make a “Mr Freeze”, I made him a Levistus Tiefling Scribe Wizard. That way he could just transmute every spell into cold damage. I gave him the “Infernal Resistance” (I think that’s it’s name) feat for cold resistance, and the elemental adept feat for cold as well. I feel like it works, but we really just need more ice spells and maybe even a subclass, I was hoping that would come with Icewind Dale… but nope.
You know, I don't really see Bobby going for calligraphy...he's basically the slacker/joker of the X-Men in most periods. Sculpting actually kind of fits his skill set
D4 made a cold mage build 1 level in sorcerer for con saves and frostbolt then goes warlock using all the cold spells it all comes together really well
You know, I was just picturing a Mr. Freeze build with an Artillerist Artificer gets a cold cannon, but I'm liking this even more. Very "chill". Also, this will be Day 9 of me requesting a build for the Soldier from TF2. I'd love to see to see how you would translate his skill with rockets (despite not being the brightest apple in the bunch), ability to zoom across the battlefield, and uttter recklessness into 5e. Love ya, man.

good build, though i may have personally gone for eldritch knight and one less level of sorcerer, you end up with more spells and spell slots that way and you get war magic so you can toss a cantrip and a punch in the same round. you may also be able to convince your DM to let you take wall of ice since eldritch knight gives you access to wizard spells and you'd already have 6th level spells at that point. you'd also loose the dragonic wings, but you could just take fly and cast that instead for more consistent flight anyway
Yeah, higher ice spells being locked to other classes foes suck, but I can easiky see a cool DM letting you grab ice spells from those lists, or letting you reflavour a spell. Like you can easily make fireball, iceball instead o for example
I bet this video was made before the most recent unearthed arcana, but I think the Prismari subclass would be great for iceman, the level 1 ability really makes it so when you run fast, you make people slip on your ice
I know you also consider UA material for builds, so with the Draconic Options UA from earlier this year, a perfect spell for Bobby DRAKE would be Icingdeath's Frost.
I think i might use my last 6 slots for Druid Shepherd instead to reflect his polymorphing and ability to create living ice constructs and spread his conciousness into them
Maybe clockwork sorcerer would have worked a little better since you can switch out those clockwork spells with wizard or warlock spells I'm just saying give it a go 😊

Fellow DMs, add static effects to your games, like being frozen, burned, paralyzed or dizzy/shaken so players can get more out of using a character that focuses on one type of element
Stocke or Rainie (maybe Raynie?) from Radiant Historia. They are both kindof spellblade/gish, but id love to see some love for this awesome game. For Omega-level bonus points, build Roche instead ('cause Mech arm).
I'd take a warlock level for armor of agathys and that new metamagic that lets you switch elements on spells for 1 sorcerer point. Now you are free to chose the best elemental damage spells and just change them into cold damage.
Ice is really kinda shafted in 5e, which is sad because it's my favourite element and there USED to be so much more for them... Heat Metal used to have a reverse of Chill Metal for instance. Surprised to not see Dragon's Breath though, you can make it Ice and it's a REALLY good spell despite concentration
A part of me would have liked to see you use a ability score improvement to take the eldritch adept feat and then tomb of levistus but I don't know how much it would help the build.
Two I want to see are the Shining Gundam and Roland Deschain (that one's relatively easy because he's a gunslinger, but there's some other things he does too)
I'm gonna guess 17 levels White/Silver Draconic Sorcerer with 3 levels Ascendant Dragon Monk. Uh, well with that Wisdom score of 10 I guess that second half was wrong. Okay, wasn't expecting those Fighter levels. If anything I would have thought Bard or Warlock to multiclass with given the Charisma. But I guess it works.
Question, for all the lovers of casting out there, would you prefer it if wizards of the coast basically made a different elemental version of each spell so no element gets left behind, but each element gets a side effect the others dont as a reason to pick and choose? Or should they just create more unique spells to make each element equally viable? So in the first case, you have fireball ice ball, lightning ball, earth ball. Each has similar direct damage, each has its own side effects such as frost ball blocking an area for a round or two until it melts, fireball doing damage over time to anyone who enters the field of effect for those rounds, earth ball having a knockback effect (think boulder trap in indiana jones) Lightning ball stunning those who fail the save for a round, etc. In the second case, they just create some ice magic for the upper tiers as well, that sort of thing.

Frost Fingers, the Dragon-focused and the new Strixhaven Mage UAs can help with that.
Yeah! The decided we need, like, six fire sorcerer's but we can't get an ice sorcerer :P
I can work with what we’ve got in terms of class options, I’d just like to see cold damage spells for every spell level.
