Im not sure but I dont think so. A smaller spur gear would conflict with the clutch housing I believe. Or you could look into aftermarket options if there are any.
@@combarccrawlers3948 Thanks - I bought two x FTX6266 - then used the right 2mm allen key (before it was 5/64 inches which caused the problem) - then put on the metal gear and pinion - all good. Only problem now is the speed controller goes red hot and shuts down - just from changing the teeth on the spur and pinion...so might have to update that also.
Excellent vid, I wish I’d seen this before I had to change my spur gear…. You may have noticed that the ftx manual shows a joint between the spur gear shaft and the rear diff, but in reality the shaft goes direct into the diff. I wish they still made them as per the manual, it would make changing the spur gear so much easier… keep the vids coming,,, :)
Thanks for your generosity, the ultimate upgrade is a aftermarket metal spur gear , but I heard that since it was not designed to be from factory it could mess up other components within the chassis like damaging diffs or bending axles or wearing the motor pinion. For now I am running it this way since I barely use it. The cv axles in back are definetely a good upgrade. Thanks👍
Its supposed to be run on 2s lipo but can take 3s. On 3s there is more chance for the spur gear to go out. There are metal upgrades but I hear they are not good too much and could wear out the motor pinion. I barely used the thing. If it keeps blowing this gear I have to try one of those.
@@combarccrawlers3948 Yeah, its better to just use the plastic spurs. Strong enough for basically everything and an easy enough swap compared to what you could break with a metal one. np
That was the most clearly explained repair i have ever seen on youtube. Thanks for that.

A nice detailed video, it was a great help.
Glad you liked it!
I broke the shaft on mine.... it was really thin where the pins go through it and it just snapped it two.
I dont know if there is an upgrade for that mate
Is there a smaller spur gear that works on this truck? Thanks!

@@combarccrawlers3948 Thanks for the response! I have looked around quite a bit and it doesn't look like there are any obvious options. Thanks again!
5:21 my grub screw was so tight, and now threaded. Googled for an hour, now the whole thing has snapped in two....v annoying.
Im sorry for you mate, stuff happens some times. To all of us. Hope you get everything sorted. Thanks for your comment.👍

Great tip with the rear dog bone swap to cvd, will be doing that this week. Cheers.
Thanks for commenting! I highly recomend the cvd swap, I have seen improvements with it. Thanks👍❤
Got one of those. It absolutely destroys those spur gears with one of the batteries i have. so i'll be saving this video lol

@@combarccrawlers3948 I'm sure I've tried one of those metal ones and if I am remembering correctly it just destroyed a different gear instead.
@@YY15UPC see as bad as this could wear out its safe to do this original replacement. Thanks for the tip👍

You get a steel pinion now with the metal spur kit for just this reason think it's a different tooth too
Way, not just changing as well .
