If I had to choose a game that has most educational value and tactical finesse this one is definitely in the top 5. Wow it was a joy to watch thanks Mato for sharing with us the great content as always :-)
I agree that it's too hard to learn from Tal's games, unless your brain is prepared to deal with incredible complexities (in which case you wouldn't need to learn from anybody).
I like Mato's critique of "commentators". Over the years I think many commentators have claimed that some of Tal's brilliant sacrifices could have been defeated one way or another, or that they could not defeat a modern chess engine. However they neglect the fact that the only opponent one must defeat is the one sitting across the board.
It doesn't matter to me who was the best player. Since chess is competitive, the need to say who is best arises. But I think Mato is pointing out artistry and aesthetics.I prefer to look at the lineages. Obviously Tal owes a lot to Morphy. Innovators, geniuses, brilliant players all have deserve respect in all areas throughout history. In music I think of lineages of great opera singers and the important sax players. I don't see anyone as better, they all had they're unique voice, later artists built on what went before.
Mato - for a couple a days ago I saw for the first time someone play the WARE opening . Something I thought only idiots did, but this Indonesian guy was amazing with his 2050 in rating. Pushing a and h pawn and he won. the opponent had 2030
Mato, have you thought about giving online lessons? Or posting video tutorials explaining different openings/tactics? I think they'd be so educational and you'd get a lot of views from them! Just a thought.
ibrahim mahmoud add Morphy and Keres to the list... it would be interesting to know who would be the one more player we could add to the list to make a top 5
lol, ok I stand corrected, but I seem to recall that he doesn't prefer to cover tal games cuz they're not very instructive to many people. like me. I just look at them and have no idea what is going on xD
Engine says that 15.Bb5 was a mistake (going from +2.x zone to -0.x zone) and White should have played Nxe6. Then Black's mistake, after Tal found 18.Re1, was 18..Ra6. (Nc6 was indeed better; 19.Bxf6 is NOT winning for White - sorry Mato - because Qxe4 and after more exchanges, Black lives to fight.) Still, Black survives his mistake and 24.Nd7+ was inaccurate from White (better was Nh5+), so the position gets equal again. Black should have indeed played Ke7 to keep it there; Kg6 is a large mistake. It's no surprise if others later played Ke7 and lost; this is a complicated game and even the engine gasps for breath.
Not only Houdini would have melted but most computers would have melted today .... IF Kasparov would have next to him Tal, deep blue could be as deep as it wanted it would have been crushed by Tal
Damon Hart do u know anything about chess ? kasparov is considered the greatest player of all time by most of the peoples who know anything about chess. u must be a real moron
"Houdini would melt in the presence of Tal" - MatoJelic 2016
Definitely man.
Its monumenTAL.
We all can agree on that. Tal has to much power and follow through.
Yes, unpredictable Tal's games are worthy learning. My chess ability grows with watching his games.
This is just unbelievable. The positions, the patterns, the moves.....oh my god....Bow down to the magician from Riga.
I feel so blessed to be able to see these games.
Pure madness=Tal's playground

I had headache when I started to look at this game...............the head ache didn't get any better
Great game, Mato! I had a lot of fun watching it. I think it is cool how well Tal plays the complex positions.
Crazy tactics from king Tal, he seems to feed off these complex positions.
I agree that it's too hard to learn from Tal's games, unless your brain is prepared to deal with incredible complexities (in which case you wouldn't need to learn from anybody).

For me, Tal is the greatest of all time
world champion less than 1 year... greatest of all time? lul
How much time Fischer was world champion? Yet, he is one of the greatest of all time
Tal is not the greatest of all time , but in his prime he can beat the greatest of all time
all I know is that every chess player wants to play like him and cap.
tal wasn't dedicated to the game like fischer... tal could 'have' been the best if he wasn't lazy...
Thank you Mato! :)
what a crazy and funny game! nice video Mato, greetings from Ecuador
@4:50 queen takes knight does not work due f7+ Kxf7 and Nd6+

I like seeing Tal play. He turns nothing to his advantage. And then you realize it wasn't nothing. It was something.
Hi, Mato can you add some book examples games in your playlist or you wish to create special section in your playlist "you know" if its possible.

Right, just chill back and enjoy opera.
Alekhine & Tal

ibrahim mahmoud add Morphy and Keres to the list... it would be interesting to know who would be the one more player we could add to the list to make a top 5

Mato has a playlist of 58 Tal games. it's beautiful :)
lol, ok I stand corrected, but I seem to recall that he doesn't prefer to cover tal games cuz they're not very instructive to many people. like me. I just look at them and have no idea what is going on xD
You will learn nothing from TAl.He is too complex. You just have to sit back and enjoy his games like music.Millions just do that ,including me.
Half of the time I couldn't understand what the heck was going on.

Matej Mlakar
Nope. I just hate when people show off they´ve done something while they haven´t done a thing.
Mato bato
mind f'ed
Tal is Tal... Bija badha bakra na BAL... lol...
Why Talush, looking to me a Jewish name, should prefer to develop his other night instead going for a pawn.
Complicated!
TAL IS !!!!!
Loll what a circus.
Joker's game
relentless attacking met with countless complex lines. sub-humanly played by tal.
Tal truly was the best ever...
Wow
