Something I feel the need to note: The nature of personas and what they represent, as well as how they work mechanically within the world changes from game to game. Furthermore, these games also tend to talk about different major things - P3 talks about the Dark Hour, P5 has the Metaverse, etc.
As far as the cutscenes go, the games DO include a mix of in-game 3D model cutscenes and full-on anime cutscenes. They tend to blend together quite well!
The mechanics tend to be similar on a base level. Personas are manifestations of your inner self, usually evoked from showing their true self. In P3, ppl “expose” their true selves when they’re about to die. In P4, ppl expose their true selves by revealing and recognizing their flaws they don’t want others to see. In P5, ppl bring forth their true selves by standing up against injustice rather than assimilating. As such, the gun shot, destruction of tarot cards, and tearing off masks serve a metaphorical purpose.
In P1 and P2 obviously do the same. But their ways of bringing a persona out is different.
Normally I'd say start with P5R but cmon you really should start with this game
Well usually people say to start with 5 because 3 didn't have a definitive version.
But now it does and it'll be best for new players to start with 3 and work their way up to 5.
Starting with new game would make playing older version feels boring though
@@avioracrown6967 I mean hey some people's first Final Fantasy will be Final Fantasy 7 (whether it be Remake or Rebirth. but most likely Remake so I don't think that logic applies to this)
Atlus has actually gone on record to say that, as long as you have proper spoiler warnings, you can show the entire game! ...Once it releases, of course. I know of at least one person who's trying to stream the game with an early copy, only to have their streams nuked by Atlus.
Oh I haven't actually seen that anywhere that Atlus said that, but it makes sense.
And I think it is very fair of them to nuke streams of people playing early copies. Those folks likely will have a hard time getting their hands on early copies in the future as well if Atlus has anything to say about it.

Honestly I WOULD HAVE said to start with 5 Royal and work your way back, BUT…3 is the best one (in my opinion), so this remake is definitely the way to go😉👍🏻
Ps: the spoiler-free TLDR on the GAMEPLAY of persona games in general. They’re turn based RPGs with dungeon crawling and monster/demon collecting, BUT the OTHER half of the game is basically a social sim with friends to hang with, jobs to do(if you want), and random side stuff you’d do irl. Both sides of the gameplay are beneficial to getting stronger.
About the cutscenes, they'll jump between styles.
Curious to see how they do it without it being jarring
@@GilbettaGaming 2d animated scenes are more rare, usually for big slice of life or even main story scenes.
I'm saying this based off of my experience playing P5R and P4G as those are the only games I've played so far
@GilbettaGaming these were really common in JRPGs back in the ps2 era, when the original game is from. Some modern JRPGs still do it but it's not as common now.
I'm so use to these it's hard to imagine them feeling jarring. I guess if you didn't grow up with them...?
@@ZaLamander616 seems like they’ll be using it mostly for locations they haven’t fully modeled or with big crowd shots where having detailed crowd models would be annoying.

Yeah Persona games have fully animated anime-style cutscenes that happen at certain points during the games. Usually during particularly important scenes.
But when that's not happening it's the 3D cutscenes.

Atlus has actually relaxed their streaming guidelines and just ask to please put a spoiler warning in the description (Also that spider thing only appears in 1 cutscene lol)

@@GilbettaGaming I mean... to try to confort you *I WILL SPOIL* the thing about the spider thing so if you're not interested don't read it... -you don't fight the spider, it is obliterated in a cutscene by the protagonist lol-
You can start with any of the games 3Reload, 4Golden, or 5Royal they're all good
The anime scenes are for things that would take a lot of effort to produce but wouldn't be useful in-engine. Establishment shots, that sort of thing. Also, this was a PS2 game, so it also did it when it wanted nice graphics back then, and they'll probably have them in the same place in the remake for consistency reasons.
...I also do not know the point of the live action trailer.

I've been just looking at people reacting to Persona stuff because i've been playing the Persona series since 2009 and Persona 3 was my first and fav in the series, Persona 3 started the calendar stuff in Persona and hanging out with friends, Persona 1 and 2 did have you still in a high school setting but Persona 3-5 is made by different people while 1 and 2 was made by other people, I'm excited for Reload, Reload or Royal are a good start because you can play the games in any order and they take place in the same world but have there own stories from each other and the games take some years ahead of each other, Like in our world the P3 cast would be in there early 30s haha.
I can't believe I had never even heard of the series before a year or 2 ago. I was clearly living under a rock.
@@GilbettaGaming To be fair to you, it wasn't nearly as popular back in the day. I probably wouldn't have heard of the series either until Persona 5 was announced if I didn't follow some content creators who really liked P4.
P1-2 ppl were still there for P3, but not as major players. Basically the leads of the project changed hands
The live action trailer is probably made for broadcast TV or other mediums where people aren't as familiar with this type of game. You can tell from the editing, it's not the same. It's kind of a meme in the fanbase already, lol.
That makes sense, it was WILD watching it.
There is also the strega/conflicting fates trailer and character trailers.

I still say P5R is the place to start, but i am looking forward to this game. And yep, persona games are always set in high school.
Wasn't the second P2 game in college? I remember they did an "IT part 1 & 2" thing with P2. But yes, high school for the most part!

The cutscenes are both in anime and 3D styles. Mostly in 3D. 2D is usually reserved for important moments
For me, Persona 3 Reload is the best way to get introduced to the franchise, it was already before this remake, sadly the game was too old for people to be more engaged to this over Persona 5. But now with this remake, P3 will have its deserved justice. For me, this game is the Peak of the newest trilogy (P3-P4-P5), so for it to be remade WITH THIS LOVE... I'm dying waiting for Feb 2nd 😭😭

Each Persona game has anime cutscenes and gameplay cutscenes, anime cutscenes are more rare, but usually reserved for more impactful scenes.

Personas are the masks that people present to the world itself (acquaintances, random people on the street, etc.), and because everyone inherently acts differently with different groups of people, we all have our own Personas. Each one is unique to its user (except for the main character, the blue haired Makoto Yuki, who can wield multiple Personas (sometimes even at once)).
7:52 To answer another question, the Dark Hour is a hidden period of time that normal people cannot experience and which occurs exactly at what would be midnight for such people. Only Persona-users and individuals of similar willpower are capable of experiencing the Dark Hour: everyone else transforms into a coffin.
8:18 It's a mix of both. There's generally less hand-drawn animated cutscenes than there are rendered in-game ones, but there are both in basically every Neo-trilogy Persona game.

I think Reload is definitely the best place to start.
P5 is great, but it takes way too long to escape the Tutorial and goes over very, VERY heavy topics immediately which may turn off some players.
P4 is my personal favorite, but sadly its graphics are a bit outdated and it also takes a while to get into the gameplay, and P4 suffers from the opposite of P5 where it doesn't have much tutorials.

Okay, no spoilers.
Dark Hour - The hidden hour in between one day and the next, normal people become coffins while Persona users / those with near potential can stay out of the coffins.
As you go on through the story you will learn why the Dark Hour became to be and how to erase it.
Persona - A sort of armor that protects the heart when you face otherworldly matters as said by Igor. In order to summon it, you have to trigger it by using the Evoker ( the gun ) to force it out.
The MC ( Makoto is his canon name ) can weld multiple Personas and change which one he uses.
You basically get a year to stop the Dark Hour, meet people and form tight bonds while watching some really good cutscenes.
Most people start with Persona 5 Royal but if you wanna be different and unique, Start with Persona 3 Reload
So... P3R gameplay from you next?
Potentially. They are allowing it to be streamed, but I would want to wait a week or 2 before starting it to give the fans time to get into the game themselves before I stream it. It does look more likely I'll start with P3R.

I'm starting to think you should start with Persona 5 afterall. It's less darker, less depressing and most importantly, no pointing guns at yourself.
Persona 4 is an option too. It's pretty chill and tons of comedy compared to 5 and 3.
