"you probably have some mountain or a castle but all we have is grass and some dead trees." story of my life
Lauren Millsaps can we move to Japan or something ;-;
+Jessica Kobeissi dude I'm in Korea and I would kill for some pretty green grass and not smog filled sky.
Omg o.O Korea doesn't have blue skies or lots of grass? I need to know this :|
Lauren Millsaps its nothing like that. You have beauty in ur life too which are higher then castle :)
Totally true, for me its the same ^^ the trees are all still alive, but thats the only difference...
Jessica .. Don't think I'm keep commenting on your videos, its just because you are so detailed and super helpful..I can't stop appreciating your work. I'm always grateful to you and your videos..
+Venitia Vijayan Aw thank you so much! I really appreciate that :D Comment all you like!!
"you probably have a really nice mountain with a castle" lmao that was funny
Jessica you have single handedly inspired me to learn photography. I admire how you have evolved in such a small period of time. You are a lovely person I think, because you share your craft so freely for other people's benefit. Thanks for inspiring so many of us.
Jessica, just started watching your videos today. It's encouraging to watch someone who had the drive to be self taught and go for what they want. I took photography back in high school and have just recently been itching to get back into it. Watching your videos is stoking that fire again. So Thank you. Currently I have a canon rebel xsi (I know it's an older model).
I loved that u used a regular citizen rather than a real model.
The depressed look is in and really popular.
This should say something about our culture and how the people feel. People like what they can relate to (just saying).
+Michael Hartman No. For portraiture it just looks better. If the model smiled like in a group photo it doesn't give the picture any redeeming art qualities. The "depressed" look, as jessica calls it, gives the viewer a sense of wonder and mystery. Smiling is just smiling, plain and defeats the purpose of portraiture.
True lol. The whole moody look is in right now. Smiles are typically edited bright and vividly saturated. Photography is a mean for interpretation.
For Alec, a smile can say a story though. Why are they smiling, what got them smiling, etc.
@S Tra OP is not wrong though... even if numberwise it hasn't changed (which i have not researched but you might have?- regarding your comment)..it still SEEMS like more people are depressed (or saying they are depressed) because more people are talking about it since it's not a taboo topic anymore. It seems to be in focus a lot and also it seems like it has triggered a trend where young people might feel more likable and trendy if they are not happy and smiling in their pictures. (It's not that we're not allowed to smile like in the beginnings of photography) it's just not 'cool' anymore to smile. That alone for me points to society getting more sad/ hopeless over the last century. Sadness can only be a trend if people are sad.
I'm a aspiring photographer and I have to say your channel has taught me so much so far, Your really good at explaining things and you have a amazing eye for it too.

As I'm exploring shooting outside more often, This video gave me 3 different options to shoot for, I'll just have to adjust settings as needed, Thank you!
the golden hour sun is very nice, but I have to learn how to handle midday sun without strobes
its just so nice to have a sweet voice to have on in the background whilst working , thank you and love your videos
Loving this tutorial......I am doing my first shoot this week and I am so happy I found you. God bless.
I love using ALL three of these in a shoot...This is a great tutorial video. AND gorgeous model! :)
GREAT video tutorial....my fav is capturing the natural activities of people and this is really going to help with using natural light, which is also my fav way of taking photos, plus I don't have all the reflectors and light equipment yet. You do a great job of teaching, thanks so much.
Wow! Thanks for all the great tips! I would have neeeeever thought to try that "hand over the face trick" (to see where the sunlight cast shadows on your subject)... it seems like such a common thing to do when shooting outdoor portraits, but being a beginner I would have never thought of this on my own. Thank you so much, Jess!
you explain everything so clearly and easy for me to understand!
thank you!
Hey ur videos are real fun and awesome teaching techniques
No fancy equipments and stuff make them different 👌❤️

I love this video! I keep coming back to it, as I'm just starting out so these are all really helpful. When you're doing portrait sessions, do you usually keep you shutter speed and ISO consistent throughout? Also- what lens do you recommend for starting portrait photography with for beginners?

Amazingly talented model is Nathalie !
I don't know what's her main occupation (but would like to) but she should consider modelling full-time, or more often at least. And when she does (and I would like to know, too), the world of photography will get better.
Hopefully our paths will cross...
Good job Ladies, thank you both !
