    Ippon hi is the winner in my opinion.
    Perfect hi color saturation
    Presence of odome
    Hi pattern does not exceed lateral line
    The color placement on the head part also is vey ideal... In between the eyes.
    Blue eyes, white nose.
    For an underappreciated pattern, the textbook standards of kohaku in that final ippon hi are present and precise at the same time.
    Definitely going to be more than happy having it in my pond. 💞

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  4 года назад +1

      Good pick! I have to agree with you the Ippon hi kohaku is going to look very strong when it will grow larger. Pattern placements are perfect and the red color looks very soft and bright.

    I normally don't post comment in social media. But I have to this time. In fact, I watched your other videos too, such as how to select showa. After watching that video, I went to my favorite store last weekend and picked some really nice showas. Other more experienced customers in that store that day complimented me for my selections. Of course I picked someones they like too. :) About this video, first of all, I agreed with your favorite. My best favorite is the ippon hi, for its solid, bright and even color, and nearly perfect balance, without any noticeable drawbacks, clean nose, clean eyes, clean fins, etc. I really like it. Personally, I think appreciation of beauty is somewhat universal. I'm an art collector too. Though I'm new in Koi, only since last year, I feel I can pick up pretty quick on what's good and what's not. This video kinda confirmed my eyes. When you select the ippon hi in the first round, I already knew that fish is gonna make it to the end. I'm kinda happy to see my own ability in appreciation and selection got confirmed by the end result of this video. :) I have a small pond, and got some really nice fish in there (I think :D). This all happened since the second half of last year. In fact, I went to Japan in 2018. Back then, I didn't know anything about Koi yet. I really wish I can go to Japan soon again to visit some nice Koi farms, such as those in niigata area and the world famous Sakai farm in the south in possible. Kudos to you! Wish to see more of your videos.

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  4 года назад +2

      Wow, what a comment and compliment is that. Thank you a lot! It is great to hear I helped you with the selection of some showa's. Hopefully they will develop as you expect from them, Showa is a great variety to grow and follow their developments.
      I can only agree the ippon hi kohaku is awesome. I'm still doubting why I didn't select that one as my number one 😉. I believe it has some good potential for the future, the skin quality is impressive.
      Very nice that you also have the experience with traveling to Japan. I assume you visited some Koi breeders as well? I'm sure it is worth the time and money to travel back again and visit some breeders (and of course select a great Koi to bring home). Thanks for your wonderful reply, have a great day and enjoy your hobby!

    @kevinh2209 4 года назад +3

    Nice video. These were born in 2019? They look small for tosai.
    I think your favorite is nice. But mine is the one with kuchi beni at 5:15. I don't think the red tail is as big of a deal breaker as it really is. I think other characteristics of that koi kind of overcome that. Once the sashi and kiwa tighten that pattern is going to be striking on a large koi.

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  4 года назад +1

      Yes these are late 2019. They are quite small indeed for their age. Could have been 25-35 cm if heated all winter long. The kuchi beni one is quite nice, red is very soft and looks stretchable. I have to agree with you when the sashi/kiwa is going to tighten and the white is becoming more prominent inbetween the red patterns - then surely it will become a nice Koi.

It was like a fade from red to orange and into the white. How will this fade progress usually? Is is possible the fade will darken into red and be more distinct border with the white or will the fade remain? Would much appreciate your feedback! Thank you!
