    1-2-3. I love the dark brown or reddish brown on Ochiba. I have some doitsu ochiba and I try to get the dark brown to contrast against the grey. Great video!

      We are on the same line! Darker brown on Ochiba Shigure can look very, very nice. On Doitsu this looks nicest as well if you ask me! Thanks for your comment. 👍

    17:12 is a perfect pick to me than your last 3. Sometimes a"special thing" have some risk, thats why it is called"special". Thanks for showing us. Very informative video.

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  4 года назад +1

      Sure that is a good pick! It is ok to take that risk if you are fine with the idea that it might not become what you would like it to become. Just like mentioned I didn't pick it because for this video I wanted to focus on Ochiba Shigure that have a higher chance for succes, since we want to help hobbyists with selecting young Ochiba Shigure & what the best aspects are to look for. Thanks for your reply!

    3 - 1 - 2. Would be my pick, 3 gets first pick, because of the fun head pattern. Would love to see them again in a year. I think if I was to buy an Ochiba it would have to be a nisai or sansai, because the brown would be more developed. Another thought provoking and interesting video, thanks for sharing. Stay safe and well.

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  4 года назад

      Hi Steven, number three indeed has a nice head pattern. I can understand why you pick number 3 as your first pick. personally I prefer darker brown / maroon colour brown as you probably did understand. I think selecting Ochiba Shigure at a young is more difficult than at a later age as you also mentioned, it can be quite difficult to estimate how the brown will evolve. For that reason not a bad choice to select them as nisai/sansai for your own pond. Also some Ochiba tend to develop small black spots (shimi's) quite easily. Thanks for your reply, stay safe.

  • @candiedragon
    @candiedragon 4 года назад +1

    I actually had my eye on the number 1 selection from the beginning of the video lol. I don't care for 2, I like number 3 with the war paint stripes across its head, and I also liked the one you were looking at 11:10. It's not considered an ideal Ochiba Shigure but I like the idea that they're named after autumn leaves on the water's surface and I think that the sumi speckling would add more character to the "water's surface". It's a characteristic and unique fish that I would enjoy watching in my pond for years.

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  4 года назад +1

      The one at 11:10 is quite nice! Like what I mentioned I surely would have selected it if it did not have these black dots. I think it will develop even more black dots when becoming older. Cool that we are aligned with our nr 1 👍

    Thankyou for the very informative video on the Orchiba...i would have selected number 3...liked the fuller pattern it was more spaced out, would have took the gamble that the brown areas would darken over time...many thanks.

    At 3:23 you mention the orange pectoral fins. As the ochiba grows the orange tends to shrink to the fin base much like a showa motoguro. 😊 i think that looks really nice. What do you think?

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  3 года назад

      You are right, orange tends to shrink. But I'm not sure if it wil be completely disappearing. I honestly have my doubts. It is a nice ochiba for sure! I like the net pattern on it, it seems to be quite deep already. But personally it is not my type / style of Ochiba. I prefer a pattern over the entire body instead of only the head area.

  • @conservativerealist
    @conservativerealist 7 месяцев назад

    Of your final 3,#3 is a pattern I enjoy,even if the. Color is not as intense.but personally my first. Choice would be one reje Ted at 17:00=17:15 time stamp..I'm not an expert or judge,but I was drawn to that one ea h time it swam by.

    The deeper brown would be my choice, but all 3 are lovely :) Perhaps in time the lighter colored ones will intensify. When just 2" long my ki kikokuryu was a long shot, but I liked it. Now at 4 yrs old he's gorgeous; not very big but gorgeous ! Which leads me to ask, " why didn't he grow as big as my other koi " ? They were all raised together.

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  4 года назад

      Most likely the brown will futher intensify indeed, that is what usually happens. Also the net pattern is likely to develop itself more intensive. Nice! I have to say that most kikokuryu do not grow that quickly. Most of them grow to about 60-70 cm and have a shorter body confirmation. It's probably in the variety/bloodline.

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  4 года назад

      Blackdiamond, nice. Is it Dainichi Botan offspring? If so, I believe it can cover the ginrin indeed. But I don't think the ginrin will fully disappear. It is still there, just there is a lot of heavy sumi/black on it which makes it less visible? Probably have to give it some time 😃
