#3 Took my breath away when I saw it. Definitely my fav because of the tactical red paired with the playful black and the white balancing it all out :) So happy you saw what I saw. LOVED the video!
Bro your videos when I watch I don't have to watch any other it is all covered ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Keep Uploading these high quality videos and always keep us happy. God will be with you😘
I think with Showa, the beni is very difficult to judge in videos or pictures unless it's high resolution. Definitely best to pick in person. Goshiki beni seems to be easier to discern because it's almost always so much thicker, even in videos and pictures.
Amazing fish !! Your 'pick five' are gorgeous and the top three are keepers for sure :) Your knowledge and keen eye for detail are obvious; i'd trust your judgement any day :)
Haha, well thank you a lot! It's good to still look critically with your own eyes though, I can also make mistakes or sometimes it may be that we don't agree 😊. Have a great weekend!
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for fulfilling my request for such video awhile back. I have a few fry that I got early fall past, roughly 3 months old. I would love your feedback on them if possible.
Thank you Jonathan! It was one of them that I wrote down on my list for a while indeed. Hope it was insightful for you, maybe you can also make use of the details for your own project. And yes you can ask, would love to see them. Via fb is the easiest way
Amazing showa… thanks for sharing.. would love to see this lesson with shiros and kohaku… I wil be putting sanke and shiros to grow out in my 50k pond come summer… thanks 4 sharing
We have it for Kohaku! ruclips.net/video/0t5VvklOobs/видео.html For Shiro I don't have a selection video like this yet, but I do have the Shiro Utsuri guide here: ruclips.net/video/KuV_PIcEAfg/видео.html
Question.. showa and sanke look so much alike, How do you know the body was fully black to prove it IS a showa? I cant tell base colors.. i dont understand when seeing the faded black if its coming up or fading. Help lol
Showas when they’re fry’s, they’re completely black. If you see a gray tone underneath the skin of the fish that means it’s coming up. Showas sumi (black) comes and goes as it grows, what you want to select in a tosai showa is a good beni (red)
Yes I must agree, plenty of space for this Showa to develop itself in the next upcoming period of time. It surely is a nice Showa to follow during its developments
Ive noticed some some showa and sanke, the white faces look peach colored. I do not like that, is that genetic or food related? Can you please explain why this happens and if it can be corrected over time? Ty
Are it still young Koi? Or already older, like 3-4-5-6 years or even older? If the latter, it is probably both genetic and also food related! For young Koi (1-2 year) it is normal the head is not as white.
My understanding is that they are born solid black, so they then develop white, but then lose some of the white to black that comes back (the blue/grey showing through the white)? At what age or size can you tell what their final pattern will be? Or do they continue to change all their lives? Very helpful video, thank you!
That correct, in the first days a Showa is completely black. A breeder will select only the black fry after spawning. Final pattern for a Showa will always be difficult. But at the size of Tosai you will already be able to see quite well how the Showa is going to develop. The red patterns normally are placed forever, they will only slightly change. The black has rouch indications beneath the skin already when the Showa is young.
May i ask, does motoguro matter much on a showa?i have seen lot of showas without motoguro but the pattern quality is amazing. Always great content by the way. 👍
It doesn't matter a lot when judging them. The pattern and the skin quality is more important. But Motoguro surely will help to bring a nice balance in the pattern
Good idea! I do have a few videos about Matsuba, for example this one about Gin Matsuba: ruclips.net/video/BHObsHgar7M/видео.html . For sure I will do a tosai selection video later, thank you
Can anyone tell me if I'm going to pick up some kois from Japan, how the transport of fish to Portugal is done, if I'm the one who has to take care of the transport or are the sellers, thank you.
It depends, if you are buying them via a local Koi shop - then normally the Koi shop will handle the Koi for you and take them in quarantaine for about 4-5 weeks until they deliver them to you. But it depends of course on each store and each person what they prefer or how they do it
During selection. Number Four. Number Six. Number Nine are nice. Even although Number Eleven comes with the risk that it might not look as good in the future, it is really nice at the moment. Number Fourteen is also very nice in my opinion. Number Seventeen is not too bad for a Gin Rin Showa Even although it is not perfect but the body was good. I find that with Gin Rin Showa you are better off being patient to look for a very nice Gin Rin Showa. Out of the Five, your Top Three are very nice, but so was that Classic Showa that you put out. Personally, I like all Five, I feel that together they give a lot of diversity in terms of patterns. Like One Hundred and Thirteen is now up. 😊👍
Number 14 is surely a nice one, the sumi still has a long way to go. Which is only good in this case. So we agree on selecting it out of the bunch 👍. Number 17 was a bit better then the other Ginrin Showa that I had in the bowl. Surely not bad, but just not good enough for now. The ginrin placement was quite good though! Thank you for your like and comment!
@@Aboutkoi Indeed we do agree on Number Fourteen. For the same reasons and yes, the longer it takes for the Sumi to surface the better the Koi will look later in life. 😊👍 I think that is the problem with Gin Rin, we need to be more patient to look for a really good One. It is always a pleasure Sir. You do a great Job.
Hi Stephan, no not yet. I'm hopeing to create it later this year. For now you can take a look at this guide, for Shiro Utsuri: most of the characteristics and details to look for that I explain in this video, can be used for Hi Utsuri as well. I also explain a bit on looking for a good posture on Koi in that video: ruclips.net/video/KuV_PIcEAfg/видео.html
What do you mean by 3-4 or 5-6 range? Tancho, when very young like 3-4 weeks old, they are selected mainly on their dot between the eyes. That's most important at the moment of time.
@@AboutkoiSir, yes..3-4 inches or 5-6 inches. What would be an early indicator of a good potential Tancho when selecting fry and onwards till it becomes well defined ?
@@clint4004 the selections I did with Tancho Kohaku where at the size of around 1 to 1,5 inch (around 3 centimeters), at breeder Marujyu and when they were about double of that size. That's just the first and second selection (called 'senbetsu'). At the second selection you can already really well see if it is going to be something or not. Of course more selections in Japan are done, I think about 4 or 5 selection rounds in the first year.
On my own opinion,if the Sumi of both 1 and 3 will fully develop, they would be a nice showa... especially the #3, your right when you say that it's a bit of a surprise...yes it is,but there's a big chance that it would develop as what I can see...thanks,hfk from the Philippines....

in showa, im looking for 3 colors in head,
beni, sumi,shiroji.. and balanced three colors in the body..
