This is my favorite of “Hawaiian Soul”. By 1970’s I was researching my ohana genealogy. Old microfilm newspapers and old Hawaiian graveyards. By 1974-76 I was with “Protect Kaho’olawe Ohana” . I was so young but SO a part of the early movements. Got busted twice at Kahoolawe protests…My life moved forward in efforts to prove my ohana place in our history. I am so proud and my heart is so grateful to know where we belong in “true “ history. Mahalo to Moe for this version it takes me back many years. Now I am Tutu and I try to awaken yesterday in the young ones. Much love and respect to those that came before me and those that will follow after. Be proud, be humble and share the aloha always.
Moe Keale is such a treasure, his voice so perfectly suited to this tribute song to George Helm. Lyrics are sweet as if written by demigods--"we sing your melodies and send them out to sea --you know the harmony!" So powerfully sweet!
I go to Hawaii since 1979 each year and I may say that the 70th and 80th very very magic. I enjoy it today too, but the old times were special ! greetings from Germany
Aloha Moe Keale and kawika96797 !!!! Just love your rendition of "Hawaiian Soul." It's so mesmerizing and most beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Am 78 years old and love these kind of ole Hawaiian songs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me ke aloha pumehana, Robert S.J. Hu November 2, 2020.
Such a powerful and soothing voice. I am not sure, but it looks like a very young Kenneth Makuakane on keyboards. Sorry to hear about your grandfather being lost at sea too.
I think you're right about Kenneth Makuakāne. My grandfather was lost at sea when my father was 10 years old because he took a friend out fishing in bad weather, and they never found him.

One of my all time favorite singers singing this beautiful tribute to another great singer, teacher and activist, George Helm.
I used to go into Waikiki with his sister in law and watch him perform
It was wonderful!
I cry for George Helm. 😢❤❤
I lived with Moe up Palolo Valley in the early 70's I used to fall asleep in the house next to his main house listening to his music....magic times.
