Just amazes me how there can be 19 dislikes. You all obviously don't appreciate great Hawaiian music when you hear it or see it. The hula dancer, Malia Peterson, is one of the very best ever to grace the stage, and the group singing, Holunape, is also highly regarded. Go figah!
To each his own Walter...Bumby dey learn. These are pono braddahsand a proud product of Kapalama Campus. I've watched Kama and Malia grow since they were tiny keiki, she danced with my daughter. I danced with Kama's Mom. Again...Bumby they learn bull...bumby dey learn.
Kia ora. I am a New Zealand Maori and when I hooked up on hisessions I was blown away by the talent and the pureness of all the artists featured. Here in New Zealand the ukulele is widely used amongst our old Maori folk. It is a treasure I guess that is hereditary to our Polynesian roots. I know for a fact that Hawaiians and New Zealand Maori were closely linked. That is why we have a natural gift for playing the ukulele. Watching all of these artists awakens a spirit inside of me of something that is unique to us and the Hawaiian people and Polynesia as a whole. Kia ora.
Howzit cuz!! From a Hawaiian down undah...for realz. I live in a town named 1770 for the year that Capt Cook laid up in the bay here just before his fatal trip to Hawaii where we took care of the buggah! Come over and we jam, cuz!
Very true, our genealogy couldnt make us any closer, but our LOVE for happiness, fun, and always smiling is a trait of ALL Polynesians from the old days TILL now. In Hawaii its called ALOHA, and the feeling we have when singing comes from inside, from you piko (naval), where your emotions are, and comes out through singing and kani ka pila (playing music).
I was lucky enough to visit Kuwai and maui twice in my life After these trips I said to my friends This is the closest you can come to paradise on this planet And the dance witch is so beautiful and graceful almost floating And the gentle language of the Hawaiien reflects this
So gentle , so peaceful, so harmonic This is probably how music sounds in paradise. Thank you so much for your contribution on u tube Sharing it with the world.
This is one of the best renditions I've heard of this song...and I know there are so many good versions. thank you for your grace and melodies. And to the dancer Malia Peterson...thank you. Your Beautiful with a smile that lights up the room!
The fluttering of humming bird gently kissing the wind, echoing love in a heart, cooing the sunrise and sunset, setting a life sailing among the heaven, glittering with a smile, awesome.
So enduring and passionate. There’s so much talent in this place many passed on from generations. It comes so naturally from the ❤️… I remember long ago days, Uncle Henry on his steel guitar & Maile doing the hula, such memories growing up.. wishing they were still here.Aloha,Lei
I believe this is the Ko’olau Golf Course in Kaneohe, scenic, beautiful deep in the lush aroma of the islands natural greenery. Who can ever leave this awesome paradise? In 80 years I’m still mesmerized, ever so grateful for God’s blessings. Mark Twain was right 🤗💕..Lei D
I‘ve been working all day in the studio on different productions. All with nice music. After wrapping things up for today I stumbled on this. I still had an instrument in my hands, so I played along a little. Although that‘s not competely correct. My hands played - without me thinking, just listening as my eyes watered up. Something powerful I haven‘t felt all day.
Talk about feeling the music you dance to! This hula dancer is sooo connected to the music she is dancing to. A pleasure to enjoy a song visually and audibly!
Such beautiful Ki Ho’alu. I sometimes play this beautiful music in the background whilst I'm doing other things, this music makes me happy. There are so many other favourite genres I like such as Cajun (e.g. High Life Cajun Band), Zydeco (e.g. Lisa Haley and The Zydekats), Bluegrass (e.g. The Petersens), Hillbilly (e.g. The Hillbilly Gypsies), Mountain Music (e.g. Mainers Mountaineers), Dixie Music (e.g. The Carter Family), Country Music (e.g. Willie Nelson, Randy Travis, Merle Haggard, Rosanne Cash etc) Australian Country Music (e.g. Troy Cassar-Daley, Lee Kernaghan etc.) Oklahoma Country Music (e.g.The Tractors), Beautiful Indonesian Music (e.g.Ismail Marzuki, Gamelan meets Orchestra), Beautiful Ambient Music (e.g. Fridrick Karlssen), English Folk Blues (e.g. Pete Stanley and Wizz Jones), American Blues (e.g. Leadbelly (Midnight Special) and Hoyt Axton (Cocaine) Big Bill Broonzy (Guitar Shuffle), I also like Reggae (e.g. Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff etc) ... and a polar opposite, I also love Chinese and Taiwanese Music (Jessica Ho, MUSA, OctoEast, Teresa Teng etc.) there are two singers called Jessica Ho, I think one is Korean but it's the Chinese one I like, she sings songs such as Wo Ai Ni. I also like many other singers such as Elvis (e.g. The Trilogy), Rod Stewart (e.g. The First Cut is the Deepest), Fats Domino (e,g, Blueberry Hill), Paul Anka (e.g. Oh Carol/Lonely Boy etc),, Helen Shapiro (e.g. Walking Back To Happiness etc), Max Merritt and the Meteors (e.g.Slippin' Away From Me), Billy Fury (e.g. Half Way to Paradise), Eddie Cochran (e.g. Three Steps to Heaven), Buddy Holly (e.g. Words of Love), The Beatles (e.g. Love Me Do/Hey Jude), Manfred Mann (e.g. Do Wah Diddy Diddy), The Hollies (e.g. Carrie Anne), The Everly Brothers (e.g. All I Have to Do is Dream), The Eagles (e.g. Take it to the Limit/Hotel California) The Shirelles (e.g. Will you still love me tomorrow), Fleetwood Mac (e.g. Don't Stop/Go Your Own Way) etc. and loads more, too many to mention. My very favourite Album is called 'To all the Girls' and it's full of beautiful duets, Willie Nelson and some of the best female singers such as Sheryl Crow, Rosanne Cash. Carrie Underwood, Norah Jones, Tina Rose and Brandi Carlyle etc. Out of all my above favourites, Hawaiin Slack Key is right up there near the top.
After having watched a lot of your videos on youtube for 2 years, i realize that each time i fall in an emotional part of me whom i worship ! hey, when u do, let me know. I know a few places to watch great hawaiian music live. and being that you probably never been here, I would suggest visiting the other islands if you can afford to and have the time. each island has their own uniqueness and beauty. Every Island has something that even as someone born and raised here, longs to visit when I can travel. It is very special. there have been changes to things lately, but most are still the same. Looking forward to you visiting our beautiful island state of Hawaii.
