When my father was stationed in Korea, he took his ukulele. One very homesick night, he started singing this song, strumming his uku. In the distance, out in the night, he heard someone singing this song, too. He walked towards the singing voice, that was also getting closer. Finally, he met-up with another soldier, also from Hawai'i, also homesick for his wife and family, who had heard my father singing! My sister sang this at Dad's funeral, recalling this story. Not a dry eye in the house!
Prayers from back home for them braddas, answered. I can just imagine them loving that moment, thrilled. Not to mention the uplifting of their spirits. It has to be a God send, my thinking any how.
This song reminds me of Saturday mornings waking up to my Mom vacuming the living room and my brothers in the Yard raking the leaves. That was my old Hawaii I remember.
This song brings back great memories--me and my wife, just married, living a simple life. Every day was a blessing and every day, rainbows. I always felt lucky those days. And felt a kindness in the world. This entire album is so special to me.
As long as I can remember, this album and this song in particular represented much happier times of my life...... Those care free days when most everyone took the time out to enjoy our beautiful surroundings and each other's company. A Much Happier Hawaii...
EVERYTIME hear this song, alongside Queen's Jubilee, Kanaka Wai Wai/Hawaii '78 & All Hawaii Stand Together....Always has me tearing up! This kinda music, Even though not understanding All the lyrics...Speaks To The Soul!
Yeah, if there was a crackseed store on every corner anymore, and this music playing all over the world, people would appreciate the Aloha & peacefulness of the Hawai'ian people. Some may have taken almost everything from our kupuna, but not their heartfelt music & song. !!! Kaleolani F.
Sang this song for my love at a bar for karaoke. She forgot that she told me that it was her late Mother's favorite song. I thought that I did a good job on it; she cried as I sang and it was so emotional and real. I'll always love you my Baby.
Just visited mainland Alaska...going home...Pua Lilia waits on my lab top every morning to start my day. Talk about living......life to the fullest....listen to this song...it fills the soul. Aloha.
ahhhhhhhhhh, the time of my life - I lived in the islands, and listened to this on the radio every hour, and never got tired of it! thanks for the reminiscing.
A very good friend of mine who passed away a year and a half ago sang Pua Lilia- his favorite song. The song has special meaning and I can never have enough of it. Now I have begun to sing the song and is my favorite song too!
Mahalo nui for sharing this video. This is my grandparents song, when my grandparent were young, my grandpa would stand outside of my grandmas window to sing this song to her. And he would also sing this to her on her birthday, anniversary and even when she got upset with him. Again Mahalo nui.
This song brings back good memories....I remember listening to my dad playing is mandolin and my mom signing this song..they would blend their voices so beautifully that listening to this song since my dad has pass on over 23 years ago brings happy tears with my mom sitting next to me and tears rolling down her and my face..Good memories..Thank you, Sunday Manoa !
I so love this song. It is so beautiful. Everytime I hear this song I picture my hula sister dancing to it. She danced this song so gracefully and beautifully.
Robert Cazimero has such a spectacular voice, and this mele showcases his talent so well. On the surface, the mele is so poetic and beautiful, ah, but if you understand some of the kaona..... What a group of musicians - Sunday Manoa.

A long time ago ... in the mid 1940's, ... our family had a neighbor's son who would sing this song ... Pua Lilia ... while the family was cleaning the house, and he would sing this song ... and it was so beautiful ... He had a beautiful voice ... And he must have been in his late teens ... And when Robert sings this song, it reminds me of him ... He worked on the Lurline Liner Ship ... Ah, such old and beautiful memories ... RIP VM
This music takes me back to 1893 to our Queen Liiu'okalani, the beautiful lady who knew of her future children of today would rise and be the epitome of the future.
Thanks for your reply! What's amazing is that I did not hear about this until after he died, so to have my sister sing this at his two services (we live in the mainland and had a service here, first) was very poignant and touching, indeed!
We had this album at our Surf Shack on the North Shore of Oahu in the 1970's. Listened to it 100's of times. The beautiful voices , excellent string playing, an so mellow vibe. Ah, the endless days of surfing and sunsets . . .
There would be, today, no Jake Shimabukuro if there never was a Peter Moon! Moon does an excellent job on solo ukulele here!! "Peter Moon 'No Ka Oi'" Wow!!
Classic Sunday Manoa! Of Course the Cazimeros do an excellent job of singing (Robert), but Peter Moon on ukulele! Wow!! This is possibly the finest solo ukulele by Peter!!
I love this song. My mom sings this so beautifully. :O) It always makes me smile. LOVE LOVE Yick Lung seeds and the Sunday Manoa. It was 25 cents a bag...my treat every Friday. Oh how things are so not 'right' these days. Showing my age I guess.
This song makes me think of my Queen Liliu'O kalani, her love for her children that lived in the turmoil of her dynasty, that could not advance the manao of our race.
I remember Robert telling the story of the singing, all Cazimeros did music....Robert's mother was trying to tell him how beautiful his voice was he didn't believe her. At a recording session she had them play back his voice and he heard himself. Until then he just didn't know.

@wjc1952 True, unfortunately the true potentials of Hawaiian music, wisdom, culture and other attributes were not afforded its sovereignty to develop fully for the world to benefit from. There are many sad events for native peoples who were subjected to aggressiveness and lost forever their true identities, save for a few musical achievements like these.
