Man you're a life saver! I was going through other videos and they were all talking about disconnecting the drive shaft it was such a huge undertaking and I couldn't figure out why it couldn't be done just the way you did it and sure enough there you go! Amen!
Been fighting my 2500 for a year, 3 shift motors. Finally got it. Connectors were dirty on wire harness side of the plug. Took a little round brush and cleaner to remove. Put old actuator on, works.
Oh interesting, I have giving my wiring a once over but haven't seen any issues. I have had luck with the last replacement though, its still going without issues. Sounds like there could be multiple reasons why these have issues, thanks for sharing!
It’s the heat from the exhaust pipe that roasts the electrical on the motor. For better results, put some exhaust wrap for a couple feet around the exhaust on the area that is close to the TC motor. You’re welcome 👍
My neutral on 4x4 knob is flashing and my truck will only start if I push button (n button ) truck drives fine but I have no gauges unless I push it in . And only when I do .
I replaced this on my truck and it didn’t fix the issue it still randomly goes in to 4low and gets stuck when I hit the key fob. And when I go down the road it blinks 4 low a few times and never goes in to it. I’m stumped looking for help.
This sounds a little different than the issues I have been having. I cant say for sure but my guess would be either the switch in the cab or the wiring in between. You could try using a multimeter to check which wires have power at the tcase in the different switch positions and check again at the back of the switch
My 08 Dodge Ram keeps blinking 4wd low while in 2wd and then eventually serv 4wd pops up. When I change my actuator do I need to have the truck in 4wd low then?
i have the very same problems and so far 3 shift motor i have put on and still the same problems.runs for a week or so then off into 4wlo it goes so i got suspicious and open one and its all torn to bits inside, why i dont know.
Interesting, mine have been lasting a longer than that (between 1 and 2 years) but I haven't taken any apart. I might have to pull this one out of the trash and investigate. Thanks for watching!
This all stems from the TIPM box that is an absolute POS! I replaced the actuator once. Worked for a year then started randomly shifting into 4WD again. Then replaced the TIPM box & had rewired. 2 years later acuator went out again. I manually shifted it back to 2WD & disconnected electrical to the transfer case😂 Now I have a 2WD hay truck.
Oh interesting...I wonder if anyone has found a fix for the TIPM box since its seems to be a widespread issue. Haha if that works for you, that's a cheap and simple fix. These trucks had an option for the manual transfer case shift, I wonder how hard it would be to convert...
Hey guys is there something else to do after unhooking the plug and putting it manually back in 2wd? I actually just did this trying to get my truck moved from a space and it originally didn’t show me service 4wd but now after removing the motor and putting it in 2wd, the light does show. And still not shifting into gear to be able to move. Any advice would be great thanks in advance
I have bought both and neither has given me a longer lifespan, so this time I just got it on amazon. Someone else mentioned that this issues stems from the TIPM and that the failing actuator is really just a symptom. I haven't looked into this yet, but for now its just not worth getting a more expensive mopar unit.
The 1500 shift motor is not the same as the 2500, just so you guys know. At least on the 2500 you don't have to remove anything to get at this part and swap it out.

Glad I could help, good luck with the truck!
that is the part that is changed when you turn on the light 4wdserv
I'm 400 miles away from home pulling a 20ft trailer with 4 atvs on it and my truck just started doing this. Thanks for the info
Hope it helped you out and that you made it back safe!

Thanks for sharing going to attempt this tomorrow would love to see some more content
Good luck with the replacement! I will try to get more content up on the truck soon
Yes, more than a few times!
Seems to be a common problem unfortunately...

Thanks for the tip!
Which way should I turn wrench to put back in two wheel drive?
Life saver man!! I'm assuming this is the same for the gas 5.7's Cause mine is stuck in 4wd also and the nob is set on 2wd. 😢
Cant say for sure but it looks like the same actuator should fit. Good luck!

That's interesting, different than the problem I had. I wonder if its the same issue or something else entirely. Let me know when you figure it out

I'm having the same issue. did you ever figure it out?
Hey guys you may need to replace the TIPM
Clean your wiring harness connectors on this TC motor.
Thank you very helpful video, but instead ov the 14mm I found that a universal box end wrench works best
Good to know, glad the video helped you out!

What I did was move the transfer case to match the new actuator. I was able to easily rotate it with a wrench like I showed in the video.

@@cheesingarage I really wish I had the knowledge to do so. It really was a solid truck for the first 10 years.

@dallasbrooks2915 have you tried disconnecting battery to reset it
did u buy oem mopar. or at a parts store

Did you had a whirring sound from the front driver side?
I dont think so...like while driving?

Gahhh....what's with the music! Nice video tho. What year was this?
