    That was a good one. I like to spray the terminals with WD-40 when they r stubborn like that. And then I spray the pins and plug it in and out a few times. That cleans the contacts. And then the dielectric grease. Just what u really need, some old geezer telling u how to do things. I am almost thru all your vids. And u r a great tech! As soon as a new one comes out, I say it’s time for a break. Thank u for your hard work!!

    Good Vid,
    Been working on dodges for 22 years now, my advice about electrical connections, spray them with WD-40 before you even try to open them up. goes better.

    Just did this repair last night in my 2011 ram 1500. This video was very important in my success..my only issues was that the Dorman shift motor seemed to be in a different position than my truck. My truck was on 2wd. I couldn't find any help or info on this issues. What I did and I hoped worked was I plugged it in not mounted on the car. Had lots of lights as I hadn't connected the extra wire. I feel like the motor adjusted to 2wd because then it went on with only a minor deviation. No more lights. I also added some gasket maker to the area as on mine there was some seal before. Hopefully my 4x4 settings aren't off.

      Good job. Did you test out the 4x4 engagement afterwards?

    • @ryanv7195
      @ryanv7195 Год назад

      @Tomsfoolery. so I switched it through 4x4 full, 4x4 lock, and 4x4lo. When I turned 4x4 on first I heard something but then it was hard to hear any adjustments after as my truck has a louder exhaust. I did test 4x4 full time going over a high curb and it was much easier to go up the curb with full time on than off. No dash lights. I'm hoping everything is working right and lined up. Thanks so much for the video! I used your pick method for the wire, and it worked perfectly.

    You never checked the fluid. That wire is probably a sensor. The fluid becomes low or burnt the ECU will put the vehicle in limp mode and keep the transfer case from shifting properly that way it does not get used and damaged. The ECU has a built-in counter. Only way to fix that is to clear the counter in the ECU then fix the trouble code after the ECU has been cleared. You read the trouble codes before clearing the ECU you are reading the codes that the ECU has locked out to protect the vehicle components.

    Got a mechanic to put mine back in to 2WD because we were on a trip. Going to put a new one on because my motor is shot. Does the transfer case have to be in 4WD or neutral to install the new one?

    What about the clock position of the motor, or small shaft from the the transfer case? Did you have to position them first? If so, how?

    Extracting the pinned wire from the male connector looked relatively easy. Is it just as easy to extract the pinned wire from the female connector? I ask because I'm wondering if having a separate harness for the brown wire would be better in the long run if these motors are as bad as the community says they are.

    Replacing actuator on 1500. First time ding it. I was told to manually put transfer case in due to actuator being pre postioned in 2. Truck was stuck in 4high. I think now it's stuck in between 2 and 4. Any advise???

    "I hooked the scanner up to it" You have 3 scan tools listed above. Which one showed you the detail? I have an OBDII and, of course, it is showing no DTCs. I replaced the transfer case motor and nothing changed. :(

      I used a Launch 431 pro in that video but I've since upgraded and there is an amazon link to the current scan tool I use now. It's a THINKTOOL PROS and its a couple steps above that old one. amzn.to/3JCxrD2

      Which fuse

    • @03customshadow
      @03customshadow 2 года назад +1

      @@Theanimal182 it was fuse 77 which had to be the drive control module because my 4wd inside the truck would never light up. I changed the transfer case motor and the fuse and now it’s working again. So my motor went bad. All good now

      @corey wright I wanted to say thank you.
      Middle of winter and working on mine on driveway.
      So with mine, 4wd quit working because of snow and the cold over a week ago.
      My 4wd dash switch still lit up but I had no 4wd lights on my cluster and would not engage the transfer case for 4wd.
      I had code: U0102-00 (Lost communication with transfer case) come up under my ABS codes section on my OBD2 scanner.
      Read several threads and watched several videos most lead to a broken or corroded wire, bad ground, bad connection throughout the entire electrical system
      I did what I could for visual inspections and voltage testing on wires, connectors, actuators. All seemed to check out.
      Got to cold outside so had a shop run a scanner on it. $150 later They said it needs to go to Dodge for a new Transfer Case Control Module and have it re programmed.
      While waiting for my appointment at Dodge in 2 weeks I thought maybe the Transfer Case Shift Motor as well, installed the new Shift motor (which I returned) because it didn't resolve the problem. Did tinkering between old and the new temporary Shift motor atleast 6 times.
      I took the connector apart on the old Shift motor, it had a very small amount of water in it. I cleaned everything throughly and put it all back together still didn't fix it.
      Found a small peice of corroded wire by fuse box for tcase repaired it, still didn't fix it.
      Swapped out all the 30A DTCM fuses for new fuses still didn't work
      After your comment about the 10A F77 fuse, I tried that, and my 4wd now works. If it wasn't for this comment I would of been lost. It's always been something mechanical not good with this electrical junk lol.

    • @03customshadow
      @03customshadow 2 года назад +1

      Hell yeah man I’m glad that was the issue. My 4wd cluster wouldn’t lite up at all , took it to my buddies shop and it kept blowing that fuse so he said try changing that transfer case motor than the fuse and soon as I did that it works now.
