Just wanted to say thank you for this very helpful video. I don't do a whole lot of work on my vehicles but this video helped me with the exact same problem on the same year, make and model truck. I tried the hot water and it didn't work for me but I squirted some Dawn dish soap and they went in a lot easier. Anyway, I appreciate the video. 👍
Thanks for posting this. Until I got the replacement linkage in my hand, I was convinced that I had to order snap rings separately. Those grommets sure are a pain in the neck getting pressed in.
Thank you, beleive mine just blew today as a was about to throw it in 4wd to climb into my backyard. Wife was saying she didn't want to throw money at it unless I could fix it. Glad I can keep my 03 4.7 with 334k still kickin
Mine fell of on a forest road I heard this bang bang bang and gone. I thought I had a stick. My kit came off Amazon look carefully at the picture before you buy! Mine came without the bolt. Quick trip to the hardware store but just look carefully. And a tad of Vaseline on the grommets help push them in. Thanks for the video.
I threw that stuff away and made up my own shifting Linkage Using rod eyes just make sure that if you do the same you keep the original measurement off of the one that fell apart
Trying to make my own rod with linkage ends and a rod. Do you know what the measurement is from linkage arm to linkage rod ? Center hole to center hole ?
verified true. Just flip it and you have smoother shifting and plenty of space to use a wrench. The larger hole on the gromets go AWAY from the middle of the truck.
@@Thugwaffle36 I just bought this truck from my FIL and I’ve never owned a diesel or 4x4 and really would appreciate any pointers on using it to prevent misuse or damaging it. From my understanding I put it in neutral on the dash and switch the second shifter to 2H for day to day driving and to shift go back to neutral and move the gear down to 4H for when riding on the beach and then wanting to use the 4x4? He told me you almost never need to use 4L
I have a different problem mine won't drive unless I use one of the 4l ,2h, or 4h ...if I place tht shifter in neutral then move the shifter next to steering wheel to drive I get nothing no fwd or reverse
@@Boone162 depends on the particular rig but it’s mostly used as a crutch for the crowd with underpowered 4x4s, of course some do use it for the additional engine braking on downhills when they are doing serious off-roading. That being said, the average 4x4 truck with a v8 or diesel wouldn’t normally ever use it because they have enough torque for 4h to spin all four tires and they usually don’t go rock climbing. The underpowered rigs and Jeep’s that go way way off road and climb rock walls are the only real users of 4L.👊
2h daily regular driving... N is for if the truck needs to be towed..it disengages everything so it can be towed safely without damaging transmission or differentials

Exactly what I needed. You saved me a headache, sir. Thank you.
Thanks for posting this! It saved my husband $150.00

Hey good idea about the Vaseline. My came off in the mud after a good rain , so I could not see it hat happen until I got towed out.
Amazing video! Helped me in 2023.

Thank you this was explained thoroughly for me to understand
Thank you, exact format we need!
i found that if you soak the rubber grommets in hot water for a bit they will push in much easier
You’re a gentleman and a scholar🤣
It would be nice to know how you got the damn rubber grommet in. That part was skipped.
It's gotta be tured around. If you put it on facing the way he has it, you will hit the wires

Thank you for your video. We both know what I'm doing. Where did your get that kit / part ?
I got it off of Amazon
Thanks for the video man helped a lot!
This is exactly why my shit wasn’t working…thank you 🎉🎉🎉
Link to part or where can I find it and what is it called please and thank you!
So basically you just shift up-and-down to go through the gears for wheel drive-in neutral?
Yupppp. I love it. I’m all for Electronic 4x4 but this is the way to go.

@@stuNzeeDkcuSyep, that's right. But engage 4low every couple months in dirt or soft ground to make it last longer.
@@johnmichaels4330 thanks for the tip I’ll make sure to do that!
It works thanks!!!!
Hey bud, how the hell did you get the boot and the casing off around the lever?
got it working thanks

Lol uh its suppouse to be in 2h 😂not neutral to drive
Yeah bro it’s rwd. 2h is pretty much rwd lol.
That’s not a problem.
That’s normal.
Drive around in 2h for regular stuff.
If you get stuck use 4h to get out.
@@jaxturner7288 what’s 4l used for?

Mines is a daily driver. Always been in 4H. Should I put in N instead? I drive 80mph 50 miles round trip daily

How did you not destroy a wheel bearing like mine??? Been having issues driving it 4h daily, I’m switching back to 2h now
@@BruceWayne-ue5dj wheel bearing service life is not effected by the use of 4x4.
Great info!!!
Can I just replace those bushings for mine?
ya you can just change the bushings if you still have the bar. My fell off somewhere on the road
That's my exact problem thanks
Thanks for this!
Okay but how do I shift into 4wd?
Can you still drive it?
Yes, I drive mine daily it's just permanently in 2wd until I fix the linkage
Depends. If the thing comes loose in neutral you won’t be able to do anything as both front and rear differentials would be disconnected.
Your truck will be stuck in what ever gear it was in when the linkage came off
I have dogde ram 2005 I have problem 4x4 don't sit tha 4x4 on that bor
Funnyman 😅
Thought I had dropped comment to the guy. That said, he has a different problem. When you put it in neutral it goes nowhere that's why I said funny guy😅
Can you still drive it with this issue ?
You can but no 4x4
Yup I’m doin it now lmao
