Making A Purple Sheath (Serenity Pt.9)

- In this video, you'll learn how I make a dagger sheath from leather. The process begins with laying out and cutting the leather pieces using a cardboard template. Accuracy is essential to ensure a proper fit. Sharkskin is then used for the throat and tip areas of the sheath. Contact cement is applied to the pieces, allowing them to be securely bonded together. The throat and tip areas are marked out, and a diamond-shaped grid is used as a guide for tooling the leather. With the grid pattern marked, the leather is wetted and stamped to create the desired design. Follow along to create a beautifully crafted dagger sheath.

Kyle is the most meticulous BS/MS there is... for persons with OCD his videos are so satisfying to watch...
Watched the last part first, but after I started from the very beginning and oh my god. that's insane. I wish all content from things makers is at that level of quality and dedication. Really love how you adding small touches here and there to make the output perfect.
As you did with descend in leather to prevent IRON from scratching by thread.
I mean, I won't even think about it.
Just awesome. Applauds.
I giggled at the sensual close-ups of the contact cement.
I hope to own a Kyle Royer Blade before I die. That is magnificent, heirloom quality, craftsmanship.
jeez that's one beautiful sheath. excellent work
I just keep hearing costanza yelling "serenity now" beautiful though fantastic work as always
Every time you try something new, I'm amazed at how well it turns out. With the charoite handle, this is probably my favorite of the knives you've made so far. This sheath is dynamite!
As a leather Craftsmen I'm truly impressed at how well Kyle does in leather crafting, it's not even his main skill and he did an amazing job!😮
Hey thanks cybertree
@@KyleRoyerKnives Thank YOU for the amazing content! 😁
It's funny how with progress today we can observe how a passionate youtuber is capable to produce products that would be fit for the kings of kings of yore.
Now seen this dagger and sheath made start to finish, its a beautiful killing weapon, that stone really makes the difference, glad you decided to take the chance on it..
This is incredible godlike peace of art.G.O.A.T
The pillowed sections are the coolest looking feature ive ever seen on a sheath. Top guy
Hey thanks
Artisan. Skilled friendly and educational. Love the vids man.
The moment I’ve seen the thumbnail, I literally stopped doing anything else and watched it. I am used to your projects being amazing, but with this dagger, you have reached a whole new level! 👍
Hey thanks Skola. “Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel”

@@KyleRoyerKnives I wasn’t driving, I was working at home 😂
Fit for Royalty, incredibly beautiful dagger and sheath.
You always blow my mind with the quality of your work.
Oh damn, that sheath looks amazing! It really does perfectly match the dagger.
Hey thanks
The filmmaking is phenomenal just like the sheath
Hey thanks my friend. Will let Josh know. Chao.
Dad
yo this wqhoole build was something incredible
Wow, easily one of the nicest sheaths i´ve seen so far, chrystal clear tutorial, no expensive tools used at all, this almost feels illegal to watch on youtube instead of learn knifemaking 😂
The idea with the diamond pattern is also just so goddamn simple, i will steal that for sure. 😄
We will make a nice in-depth course one of these days about sheath making. It will be about 4 hours long probably. Lol
Holy sheath! This project is coming together incredibly. Aspiring blade smith's like myself get a lot of inspiration from this stuff. Thank you for sharing your art with us.
Holy shit this is the most beautiful sheath i have ever seen and it fits the dagger soooo good. ❤❤
Kyle, Knife making is indeed a fascinating craft that requires skill, precision, and creativity. The artistry and craftsmanship involved in creating a beautiful and functional dagger are truly remarkable. It was pleasure meeting you and Dad at the show.
Createx sells a product called uvls clear. It's an amazing product. You can paint bare aluminum with it and then even acrylic paint will bond. There is literally nothing this stuff doesn't bond to. It chemically bonds to the surface of almost anything and then you paint on top of it. The paint bonds to the uvls which bonds to the surface. It's a chemical bond you can't scratch it off you can even paint cheap toy plastic with it and it bonds. You spray it out of an airbrush. I'm a painter and this stuff is a God send. Instead of going through all the old steps to prep a surface, alcohol wash, flame treat etc you skip all that and just spray this on. You wouldn't have had to make a second sheath. Yes dyes work as well I originally bought it specifically for dyes. It really helps those candies pop and keeps them from bleeding without 20 layers of balancing clear.
It's mind-boggling how many of your projects end up looking like such beautiful works of art that they seem cartoonish or CGI. Your talent and attention to the smallest details set you apart from many great creators. Truly amazing. Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing.
Hey thanks
It is good to see that in a world of loveless mass production there are highly skilled craftsmen with great attention to detail and quality!
Holy sheath that turned out awesome! 😲
My fav bladesmithing channel
Absolutely stunning Kyle 🤩
I’m stealing that paper grid… amazing idea

Fantastic work. Gold in the little holes in the pattern would look cool.
Shark skin... didn't expect that!
Absolutely Beautiful Sheath and Knife!! 😀
Hey thanks
Of course he’s a leather working master too.
This dude is incredible!
That entire dagger and sheath are insane! Love your work dude. Keep it up!
As always your attention to the miniscule details amazes me and is what makes all of your projects a work of art
Noice. Beautiful
My purple head warrior needs a sheath like this 😅
Thanks for the video. You and your family are all very talented. 😊
Gorgeous! 👍
Simply perfect!
Beautiful color combo a truly amazing piece!
Thanks

Blown Away!
Hey thanks
@@KyleRoyerKnives IMO your work is second to none.
I really like that you pay as much attention to the back as the front. I always want my stitches and tooling as nice on the back. Can't wait to see what you do next in the stone. Amazing job on your first try. Thanks for taking us along 👍.
You sir are amazing.
SERENITY NOW!! Serenity now...insanity later...
Who is old enough to know what im on about?!
You need to get yourself a stitching pony man, they make sitting and stitching long lengths like that so much easier!
Love the beard keep growing!
Beautifully done. Top quality craftsmanship
The quilted effect is pretty cool, and even though I would never have considered dying it purple, it does look pretty good. Nice job!
The level of detail you apply to everything is awesome! Would love to see you apply your skill to making a musical instrument, forge a resonator maybe...
This is an ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS piece of functional art. I love your attention to detail. Everything works wonderfully well together. Thank you for sharing your work and the process with us. Very well done.
Kyle 1 thing to remember make sure the leather you use that will. E against the blade is vegtan and not chrome tanned because the chrome tanning chemicals will rust steel
Copy copy. It’s all vegan. Keep Forging On my friend.
Dad
Thanks Kyle for yet another valuable lesson. I think its great that you shared your initial frustration. Your perseverance paid big dividends. You boys just keep getting better and better.
Hey thanks Kelly
Fit for a king !!!
Commenting just from seeing the thumbnail! "Holy FK! My dream sword!" 🤙 Iv'e seen the Dagger b4 but now you present this insane sheath? Wuuuttt🔥
Turned out absolutely perfect. Really good you keep the failure in to the video. Shows us all that even good sheath makers can make a mistake.
Bro fr finishing the legendary loot set up. Bro made the legendary sword, now the legendary side arm (dagger)
🍻 Cheers 🍻
Chao.
Dad
amazing work it looks beautiful
Don’t you have anything better to do than to be bothering this young autistic man while he’s making a sheath? Be gone you vile human!
Hey thanks Nooby
Those close ups with the contact glue may get u an adult rating.
Magnificent! I followed the whole making process and I'm thrilled on how it turned out.
I just have one thing to say: I feel like the sheath could use some silver inserts on the tip or near the guard, maybe representing your name, or something...
I agree, but not silver, GOLD, to play off of the inlay from the guard of the knife.
If his name was in gold it would of been the cheery on top for sure. 👍👍
@@jonny555ive I thought of this possibility also, but the silver lining would contrast better with the purple and black sheath, I don't especially like gold as I think it is very cocky, silver would maybe fit better for the moonlight appeasing sense of the serenity dagger.
It, however is nothing but my humble advice, I am not the maker, after all...
Get this man a stitching pony.
what an artist !!
If some king would seek the finest swords and daggers on the planet, this is where to get them.
Hey thanks Robert
It's good to know that even a mastersmith still makes mistakes and learns from them
Wow, that looks great!
Absolutely superb 👍👍👍
👍🏻☕️🔥⚔️
Dad
Beautiful as normal for you,,your attention to detail and professionalism are to be admired,,bravo
Wow... just wow...
Looks awesome!
Wooow! Amazing!
You're a real artist. The piece looks so beautiful.😉😉
Beautiful 👍
Amazing work yet again
I remember in some of your older videos how you talked about not liking leather work, but it seems to be that you were finally enjoying it. Leather work as some of the most satisfying stuff to watch or do! Glad you came around to it
100% nice work🥰
Beauty 💜
When are getting more of this dagger? You always make beautiful knives. Works of art..
That came out beautiful! All your work ends up looking like the legendary level weapons / artifacts in games. The very best!
Kyle - I know precious little about making knives. I have maybe made 20 in my life. However, I have been doing sheaths for about 12 years. If I may give a few things to consider, sir, if I may be so brazen. First - I am shocked by the resist the dye gave to you. I use acetone in the shop at times and have never seen it resist dye like yours. I am going to test it in my shop and see if I can recreate your experience. Here are my thoughts. 1) Consider using a swivel knife to cut the lines for your grid pattern. It gives a very crisp edge when beveled. 2) You welt shold be about 70% thickness of the blade. That gives a very good fit. 3) Consider buying Masters Contact cement thinner. It will help you with control of the glue. I run mine pretty thin. It will penetrate the fibers better and allow for better adhesion - although it will take another coat. 4) When punching the holes for stitches - consider using a needle slightly larger than the one you use for stitching. It will leave holes that will self heal better and conform to your stitches. 5) May I suggest building a simple stitching pony to assist your stitching. 6) Given that iron dust will turn leather black when it is wet be careful using a used belt. The process is the tannins in the lather reacting with the iron dust causing a chemical reaction and making it black. 7) May I suggest tokenole for the edges. It is so much better than Gum Tragacanth.
Please accept my comments as they are inteded. Something to be given with utmost respect. Your work is amazing and your sheath work is very nice. These are just humble suggestions, sir. AMAZING blade, as always. Thank you for your videos.
You are the absolute top of your craft sir.
BEAUTIFUL work Kyle.
Both knife and sheath are masterpieces.
Absolutely flawless craftsmanship.
12 out of 10 👏👏
Hey thanks Johnny
Best in the world
So satisfying 😮😮😮
Amazing! Wonderful to watch a master craftsman creating a piece of art. Congratulations Kyle👌🏻
astonishing!!!
I have seen leathersmiths that have worked on leather for decades that don’t do work as beautiful as that sheath. I don’t know how you get such a good result on things that you don’t work on that often but You are the absolute master
you should try dip dyeing I personally like it better and you get dye deeper into the leather. also when doing your edges you can make a burnishing tool out of wood with different width channels(depending on the thickness of leather you are working with) then you just put in a mill or drill press and as it spins as you can just pulls your leather through it to burnish your edges. Beautiful work btw.
When I went to saddle building school we used cocobolo to burnish edges that oily wood really shines up the edges with different compounds
That is a beautiful set and go great together. Love your work
Thanks
Absolutely fantastic work, I can only aspire to master this craft like you have
Hey thanks. You can do it. We are in your corner my friend.
