Got mine in Seoul for a Fuji S3 body trade about 12 years ago and have loved it ever since. Pretty much bullet proof except that the aperture lock is broken. I got it fixed and it broke the same day. Tight zoom, sharp as a tack, and value to the century. Seeing the prices on Ebay at 200 or under makes me almost want to buy a back up. Hopefully the better Nikon bodies will continue supporting the screw drive lenses for a long time to come.
Very cool lens sir! How do you think the BMPCC4K image quality compares to that of the Canon C70? Some say Blackmagic cams have a more cinematic and less digital looking, but I’m curious if I can get that filmic, cinematic, soft and organic look out of the C70?
Hi, how are you? I recently have bought a D700 and want a midrange lens. What do you think about this lens Tokina At X Pro 28 70 F/2.6-2.8? What is your opinion using it on a D700? Thanks in advance.
Just picked one of these up for my 4k, looking to get the at-x 20-35 to get wider shots than 40mm You can buy from Japanese sellers for around the 200 price point, in Japan they were marked as 2.8 but it is the exact same lens
@@paradisioproductions9566 no problem! I ended up pulling the trigger on one so I’m hoping it matches well, I’m really adamant about having a 24/28 and 35mm in my kit so that would be great
The lens does not require a speedbooster! For years I used a Fotodiox Nikon F to Canon EF adapter and it fit perfectly fine on the Metabones, a canon 5d mk iii, a Canon r5 with an EF-RF adapter and a red komodo with the same RF adapter. I can't say for sure, but there's been no issues that lead me to believe the viltrox will have a problem with it
For testing, I used a cheap Nikon F to Canon EF adapter and attached it to an EFT to M43 speedbooster on the camera itself. In the future, I'd like to look at a permanent mount conversion for this lens
I have 2 of these lenses, one for a pentax mount and the other for canon. They both perform flawlessly. My first impression was exactly the same as yours. Super heavy lenses that make you smile you when hold them. What a steal for the price paid. The auto focus works pretty good if you ever get it to work for you. It's not the fastest AF system out there by modern standards but truthfully not that bad, if I had to guess about 80-90 percent the speed of my other expensive modern lenses. It does however have a loud clutch/clunk noise when it stops the focus quickly (truthfully I actually like that about it, some might not). And yes wide open it is soft (especially the edges) (so if you like portraits that might be fine). Good luck to you and happy shooting.
I've seen many accounts of people getting the autofocus working! I'll need to do some fiddling and try some different adapters. Glad to hear you have had similar great experiences with this gem
Hey man, thanks for posting this. Looking forward to more content. About to get this lens for fun, hoping to enjoy its beautiful filmic image (also it’s near parfocality and lack of breathing - amazing!) Will use it mostly for some narrative uses on my C300, but curious to see how well autofocus works on my EOS R for vlog/run n gun too... How noisy is the AF on this beast? I’m assuming I’ll need to use my lavs. Looking forward to experimenting myself - but I just found your video and was curious to know what your experience is, as I wait for this lens to arrive! Thanks for sharing
Great question - the dummy adapter I'm using has AF confirmation for photography on my Canon 5D mk iii, but I have not gotten autofocus working on that adapter nor on a speedbooster. I have read online that others have gotten the AF to work, I am currently awaiting on two different adapters to try with this lens to get that functionality online. I hope you have a great experience with this lens, it's a gem!
What a nice video! I was planning to buy it, and this video was really helpful to understand more about this lens because, internet lacks of info on this specific tokina. Btw do you know what's the difference between this version which is f2.6(2.8 in reality) and the others versions, PRO f2.8 and PRO f2.8 SV? I ask you this because i had a nice price scount in the 2.8 version.

Hi man nice review. I think to buy this lens for my canon eos R but i'm not sure because i dont know what is quality on full frame camera. Do you know this lens is made it for full frame or crop camera ? Tnx for review u have my subscribe and like :)
Thank you very much!! I've used this lens for full frame photography on my 5d mark iii and there is no noticeable vignetting from my testing. I have not done a test against a solid white background, so there may be a small amount, but on the whole this fits full frame no problem!
It was an absolute steal! It was going for an ebay auction and it ended at 186.50 with $15 to ship. I was prepared to pay upwards of 300 on this auction! Best deal I've snagged in years

Great video sharing!!
i shoot for 13 years with the 35-70 2.8 Tokina on my Pentax LX and was simply excellent lens for a very cheap price. great find. lucky you!
would love to hear an update on how this lens is working for you! I am looking at the same one

From which year is your lens and how did you know it wasnt a later model?
Speedbooster?

nikon called that AF-D,

I hope this helps!
Which adapter did you use to adapt it to a Canon mount?
I used a cheap Fotodiox dummy adapter. It can be snug and difficult to remove from the body when at 28mm however, zooming it out removes this issue
I will try the Redrock.
How did you adapt the lense to ef mount?
For now, just a basic F to EF ring adapter (about $12). In the future I'd like to do a permanent mount conversion, like a leitax
Is it true that is parafocal and has minimus breathing??
It's not perfectly parfocal, but relatively close. Pretty minimal focus breathing, but still noticeable compared to a true cine lens
