    I have seen a couple of your tutorials and I just love them. I wanted to share a little tip that I have used many times myself. I see that you tend to create a template to help you to get your image size just perfect for your project, however you delete your template. I do the same thing when I am working in design space but instead of deleting my template, I center my image onto my template then I attach the two and cut the image along with my template. This helps with two things; 1. Placement of my image onto my project
    2. I don’t have to cut my stencil off of the carrier sheet, therefore it makes the weeding process a lot easier, for me at least. I also have my entire project covered minus the area that I wish to get the color change.
    I really hope that I explained that in an easy to understand manner.
    I am a new subscriber to your channel and am looking forward to seeing more of your inspirational projects! Thank you!

    • @amberweller203

      You should never be burning after staining. Chemicals in the stain can produce toxic fumes.

    Wow, I'm absolutely amazed! Thanks for showing us this cool trick of burning pictures into wood without having to have some expensive piece of equipment. I will try it!!! Please, everyone, protect yourself from the chemicals, whether it be from skin contact or fumes, as I think ammonia can be cancer causing.

    • @fuzzzyyellow
      @fuzzzyyellow 4 года назад +1

      The heat gun will likely bubble your paint. It's a great tool for stripping paint off furniture so I wouldn't recommend it for this.

    • @mrcraftypants
      @mrcraftypants  4 года назад +1

      The gel has to come in contact with the wood grain, so paint is out of the option. However, a light stain works great! 😊

    I just watched your video and have not seen this technique before very interesting. I am new in the cricut crafting department, was told it was a good stress reliever since I am a nurse and the past several months has been very trying. I checked all the products on your list when it came to the heat gun you didn’t specify what kind you have, when it went to Amazon it shows Several, what kind do you actually use? Excellent video! Thank you for speaking clearly, for not using music, for not having distractions (pets, people) moving in and out or talking through your demonstration! And I just have to say, HOLY COW! Freaking amazing! I can’t help but wonder what made the original youtuber to think of this, eh? I am blown away! I cannot wait to try this, thanks so much for sharing! I am wondering if you know how long it lasts? Is it debossed or is the area burned engraved like when using a wood burning tooL? At the end you mentioned whether it is food safe or not, according to my findings, food safe is considered less than 95.9%, so in addition to washing off the chemical with soap and water, one might consider using a food-safe sealer just to be safe…but for non-food items, it would be just fine without and additional sealer.
    Gosh…I just can’t put into words how excited this technique has me. I paused your video and ordered my ammonium chloride! THANKS! THANK YOU! GRACIAS!!!! 😁

  • @kellierudolph3694
    @kellierudolph3694 4 года назад +9

    Do you seal the wood after you “burn” it? Also do you just wash the ammonium chloride off with soap and water? By the way, this is so very cool, when I first saw what you were doing, I was like no way will I be trying this. Then by the end of the video, I’m like it looks amazing and is so doable! Great tutorial!!!

    • @mrcraftypants
      @mrcraftypants  4 года назад +7

      You can seal it if you’d like! Also, I just used a sudsy rag to wipe mine down afterwards. 😊 One of the things I love about this is how doable it is! It can seem like a lot at first, but it’s really not. 😊

  • @creativecrafts2118
    @creativecrafts2118 2 года назад

    Wood burning for me was inspired by watching your videos and you detailing the mixture of ammonium chloride and food thickener
    I found that the best mixture to avoid the bleeding affect is as follows:
    1 - TBSP Ammonium Chloride
    8 - TSP food thickener
    1/2 cup hot water
    Other things to note:
    When you mix the wood burning gel, let it stand for 30 minutes to cool down. I store mine in small round sealable containers that I use for mixing paints, etc.
    Use (2) brushes when applying the gel. One brush to cover the exposed area to be wood burned. A second brush to go over the area to smooth out the gel evenly, and to remove any excess from the edges of the pattern. This helps to prevent the "bleeding affect" when burning the design.
    Lastly, when using a heat gun, leave it on the lower setting (low heat) as opposed to the high heat setting. I've found that using the high heat setting leaves burn marks (which sometimes adds a more rustic look to certain pieces) but not so much to a finer more detailed (desired) finish.
    Thanks for the inspiration I’ve created so many unique pieces and they have turned out beautiful and your videos are always so insightful.
