I have seen a couple of your tutorials and I just love them. I wanted to share a little tip that I have used many times myself. I see that you tend to create a template to help you to get your image size just perfect for your project, however you delete your template. I do the same thing when I am working in design space but instead of deleting my template, I center my image onto my template then I attach the two and cut the image along with my template. This helps with two things; 1. Placement of my image onto my project 2. I don’t have to cut my stencil off of the carrier sheet, therefore it makes the weeding process a lot easier, for me at least. I also have my entire project covered minus the area that I wish to get the color change. I really hope that I explained that in an easy to understand manner. I am a new subscriber to your channel and am looking forward to seeing more of your inspirational projects! Thank you!
i have learned so much through crafting it has been my peace through my hardships. im homeless going through a program to help with housing so i now have space and time thank u for ur videos
I've been in steel fabricating for 35 years, evolved into building industrial furniture, and now looking for another venture. The craft world has piqued my interest, as I can combine different ideas into my fab and furniture creations. My point being that you, Michael, have given me inspiration with your projects. Keep up the great work and.....Stay crafty, my friend!!!
This is by far the BEST DIY I've ever seen!! I loved watching the "burning" appear with the heat! I can't wait to try this! So many ideas running through my head! Thanks 😊
Thank you Mr. Crafty Pants. Just purchased a Cricut Maker and your videos have given me the confidence to jump straight in, rather than spend houuuuuuurs procrastinating 🙌🏽
I'm new to the cricut maker and have learned a lot through this channel and other channels especially. I've done wood burning before, but now I'm thinking of investing in a heatgun.
You are such a good teacher! I love how you show exactly where you are clicking in design space with your arrows. Your pacing is great. I never have to rewind to try to figure out what you are doing! Thanks! So glad I just found your channel!
Ohh my lovely. It worked! Completely blown away. Used food thickener substitute here in France and worked wonders. I am soooo pleased. Got a load of wood slices from farmer to make into trays. Yay :)
I am so glad I stumbled upon your videos. They are so helpful, detailed and informative! You are a great teacher! For someone who is just starting I don’t feel lost or frustrated trying these crafty ideas! 😊 Thank you so much!
I just love you! Enough said!🥰 I ordered my ammonium chloride on Amazon today and will have it tomorrow, I’m so excited to try this! Thank you for being my go to person whenever I need help with my projects! 😊
Let me just say... I have owned my cricut for almost two years now. Just getting started using it. Why did I wait so long? I was scared to death! Finally just jumped in and started using it. Asked several friends multiple times for help. Let me say this.... I HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH SINCE I FOUND YOUR VIDEOS THIS WEEKEND! Thank you so much for all you are doing. I am so excited to try all these projects!!!!
I am totally make that burning solution. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I love my Cricut, I love woodworking, woodburning, pyrography and now this new potion. xoxo Sandy
Hi! Thank you for the tutorial! Do you have to seal the item after burning it? Also, do you find the solution picks up when you are removing the vinyl, or is it thin enough you don't have to worry?
I am so happy I found your RUclips channel! I have already done the glass etching and ordered the supplies to do this as well as the metal etching one. You explain things so well and go at the perfect pace. Thank you Michael!
All my gifts for 2021 are now taken care of! Thanks. You do a great job explaining/teaching. From a retired elementary school teacher this is a huge compliment!
I am so glad i stumbled across your page. I poked at the Circut Maker but I’m on disability and can’t afford it but I’ve learned so much about crafting from you. I’m even part of your community team, LOL Thank you, your the best crafting teacher on YT.
Hi. I stained my wood before, but then did another coat of stain after to help the burn bleed blend in better. So, in my case at least, yes you can stain afterwards.
Yes, you can absolutely stain the wood after burning. I’m actually learning the old fashion way of wood burning. For that you can check out Pyrocrafters on RUclips. 👍
Wow, I'm absolutely amazed! Thanks for showing us this cool trick of burning pictures into wood without having to have some expensive piece of equipment. I will try it!!! Please, everyone, protect yourself from the chemicals, whether it be from skin contact or fumes, as I think ammonia can be cancer causing.
I am beyond ecstatic that I found you on RUclips you are amazing I am so honored to be one of your followers thank you so much for all your post which have helped me so much🥰🥰🙌🏼🙌🏼
I’m so happy I stumbled across your channel! You are such a vibe and I love how you go into detail about everything making the steps as simple as possible and still accomplishing these amazing results! My Maker will be here any day now and I can’t wait! Now I know where I’ll be going for all the tips and tricks 😉
I don't even have a cricut machine but your video popped up and I've already subscribed! Your instructions are perfect and easy to follow. And now I want a machine. Lol.
I just watched your video and have not seen this technique before very interesting. I am new in the cricut crafting department, was told it was a good stress reliever since I am a nurse and the past several months has been very trying. I checked all the products on your list when it came to the heat gun you didn’t specify what kind you have, when it went to Amazon it shows Several, what kind do you actually use? Thank you for being a great teacher you are easy to follow, I just hope I get more time in the near future to Try this out once again thank you
Excellent video! Thank you for speaking clearly, for not using music, for not having distractions (pets, people) moving in and out or talking through your demonstration! And I just have to say, HOLY COW! Freaking amazing! I can’t help but wonder what made the original youtuber to think of this, eh? I am blown away! I cannot wait to try this, thanks so much for sharing! I am wondering if you know how long it lasts? Is it debossed or is the area burned engraved like when using a wood burning tooL? At the end you mentioned whether it is food safe or not, according to my findings, food safe is considered less than 95.9%, so in addition to washing off the chemical with soap and water, one might consider using a food-safe sealer just to be safe…but for non-food items, it would be just fine without and additional sealer. Gosh…I just can’t put into words how excited this technique has me. I paused your video and ordered my ammonium chloride! THANKS! THANK YOU! GRACIAS!!!! 😁
Do you seal the wood after you “burn” it? Also do you just wash the ammonium chloride off with soap and water? By the way, this is so very cool, when I first saw what you were doing, I was like no way will I be trying this. Then by the end of the video, I’m like it looks amazing and is so doable! Great tutorial!!!
You can seal it if you’d like! Also, I just used a sudsy rag to wipe mine down afterwards. 😊 One of the things I love about this is how doable it is! It can seem like a lot at first, but it’s really not. 😊
Wood burning for me was inspired by watching your videos and you detailing the mixture of ammonium chloride and food thickener I found that the best mixture to avoid the bleeding affect is as follows: 1 - TBSP Ammonium Chloride 8 - TSP food thickener 1/2 cup hot water Other things to note: When you mix the wood burning gel, let it stand for 30 minutes to cool down. I store mine in small round sealable containers that I use for mixing paints, etc. Use (2) brushes when applying the gel. One brush to cover the exposed area to be wood burned. A second brush to go over the area to smooth out the gel evenly, and to remove any excess from the edges of the pattern. This helps to prevent the "bleeding affect" when burning the design. Lastly, when using a heat gun, leave it on the lower setting (low heat) as opposed to the high heat setting. I've found that using the high heat setting leaves burn marks (which sometimes adds a more rustic look to certain pieces) but not so much to a finer more detailed (desired) finish. Thanks for the inspiration I’ve created so many unique pieces and they have turned out beautiful and your videos are always so insightful.
Thanks so much for teaching this. I just got a cricut for Christmas. My husband thought that I might want to make shirts, but I wasn’t looking forward to that. I made my first project burning a 1x8 pine board. It came out great!
This is a GREAT project idea! Thanks for sharing. I’ve only been using my Maker for a few months. I recently subscribed to your channel. I’ve watched many videos by others, but this the first time I’ve seen the idea of laying the vinyl down onto the transfer tape. Brilliant! Thanks!
Good channel dude. I'm a dad who likes making things and especially making things for my daughter. Like some of the ideas and tips you have in your videos.
It’s called a scorch marker. 😊 however, you’re not going to really be able to stop the solution from spreading very much with it. With ammonium chloride + thick it on top of a stencil you’re going to get much cleaner lines. 😊

Thank you for this video. It was afraid of the ammonia & heat gun. It turned out beautifully & you’re still alive! Good work!
I love what you did to that door hanger, I just wondering if you can stain the wood after you burned it.

You should never be burning after staining. Chemicals in the stain can produce toxic fumes.

OMG.... Your my new best friend! Question can you do this on painted wood or just stained? I love this! Now I have to binge watch all your videos
The heat gun will likely bubble your paint. It's a great tool for stripping paint off furniture so I wouldn't recommend it for this.
The gel has to come in contact with the wood grain, so paint is out of the option. However, a light stain works great! 😊
I just watched your video and have not seen this technique before very interesting. Wood burning for me was inspired by watching your videos and you detailing the mixture of ammonium chloride and food thickener
I found that the best mixture to avoid the bleeding affect is as follows:
1 - TBSP Ammonium Chloride
8 - TSP food thickener
1/2 cup hot water
Other things to note:
When you mix the wood burning gel, let it stand for 30 minutes to cool down.
