If you viewers are having a hard time finding or understanding the the kind of information you're suggesting they find, I've had a great deal of help from AI chat bot. They can give you product information, and what machines are compatible together. Ive tried a many different ai apps but my favorite is Genie. That particular AI answers my questions extremely thoroughly, and always makes sure to warn me about any trouble I might possibly come across, like making sure I knowcompatible consumables are, and any additional equipment I might need or want. It's really very impressive all the things an AI chat can help you with. It saves me SO much time and energy!

So true on so many levels. One example, I purchased an ea2 in Nov knowing I could use my android. Got my machine unboxed, cut their sample test and quickly purchased a svg file within hours of receiving my machine. Upon trying to open the file I soon found out files need a computer. Oh no, my heart and ambition rapidly diminished. Thankfully my boss purchased a laptop out of fear when the pandemic started for me to work from home if I were to get sick. I asked if he would mind if I used it for personal use and he agreed. Very blessed now.

Another issue is whether you want to use somebody else's designs or design things yourself. Great video. I will be sharing with friends and family who may be considering purchasing a Cutting machine. I do tell them this exact information in my own way, but you are a trusted source who explains things easily understood and to the point. I avoided the Cricut line for years because they required use of their physical expensive cartridges. But in 2014 when the Explore came out I heard mention of a future Print then Cut feature and the ability to upload your own files from non Cricut sites. That fascinated me, as I have lots of digital clipart that I didn't use as much, I didn't like cutting with scissors. So I learned as much as I could about Cricut's print then cut feature and how to use Design Space. I also understood it was a cloud based software to run the machine, so realized I would need a powerful computer. I think that Cricut does need to up their Specs page for letting people know the specs that will give the user the best user experience, as right now they give the very bare minimum, that barely run the software. So with my pre-learning and research, when I finally bought an Explore, I was ready to dive right in on the day my machine arrived at my home . I now have a Maker and am enjoying crafting, still doing mostly print then cut stuff, but having fun. I am lucky that I don't get frustrated as many others do with Cricut's updates, or with changing technology. I go with the flow, and as you mention May May, all of these companies want to help users, not hinder them, but the user has to be willing to learn, be patient and keep pace with change. I am 75, and I think its healthy for me to keep being challenged by learning new things. Happy Crafting, Crafters. Thank you May May for all you do for the crafting community.

I will tell you this: If your computer is Bluetooth capable, the new machines can hook up that way so you don’t have to be in the same room. From a functionality standpoint, it works a lot smoother if you are in the same room though. Otherwise, it’s a lot of back and forth and it can get frustrating. People love the Bluetooth function but I rarely use it since I have to physically be by the machine to load and unload mats and start the cutting process. I might as well have my computer right next to it to start the process picking my materials and the tools in the software. One of the tools even requires a cable hookup to the computer which people somehow forget to mention.

Overall very useful video. I must admit, I almost stopped watching after the first few minutes. I thought the topic wasn't what I thought it was. I did, fortunately, watch till the end. Very solid advice for anyone thinking about jumping into maker space with a Cricut. Do your research and be honest with what you really want to do. Thanks.

This is a great video! My aunt is very tech challenged and had to take several classes at Michaels to figure out how to use her cricut. She still struggles. She bought the Brother SNC for the scanning, tracing and cutting abilities, but still struggles with that machine too. The Brother SNC does have a collection of designs built in the machine, so if you want to just stick with basic shapes and simple designs, no computer is needed. But I totally agree. Research, research and more research. Saves you $$$. 🙂

Thank you Maymay. I have an Explorer Air2 & a Joy. They are perfect for what I need. A friend saw everything I can make and thought his wife needed one so he bought her a MAKER! well it is still in the box. This is so sad. But since then she has purchased a joy and we make cards together. Slowly she is learning and someday we will get that Maker out of its box. 😂

Very glad I have an older machine without the need for external computer. Have cartridges and happy with my choices for designs. Stopped using because of the sticky pad problems. But watching this makes me glad I have this older one option. I’m using handcrank big kick which makes me NOT dependent on electric energy at all. Power goes out? Does not stop the big kick! Thanks for this video Maymay. Everyone buying will be glad for this!

I was tempted by the Cricut Joy but, after a lot of wrangling between 'need' and 'want', I decided not to buy that type of machine and I don't regret my decision one jot! I have no problem with using IT but what I do have is a Sizzix Big Shot Plus and several thousand dies of different types. They cut everything I could ever possibly need, so why discard them in favour of 'the latest thing'?! If I was brand new to crafting, I would almost certainly plump for an electronic machine but I'm not... and therefore will continue to use and enjoy my dies. 😊

I still use the dies I have with my spellbinders machine. I love making cards and mug designs and other vinyl projects with my Joy. I bought a Brother Scan N Cut to cut stamped images and images on paper to bottom line, not to buy more dies. I still use what I have, but in the year I've had it so far, I have saved a lot by not buying new dies. I stamped a bunch of images, colored them, and cut them out on my Scan N Cut, it was great. It even cuts whiskers on my cat stamps! I can't do that fussy cutting!

I was thinking the same to keep my Sizzix big plus machine and my dies and forget the hype. BUT the problem is I want to create 3D pop up cards, more assembling time than rolling up my tiny dies in the sizzix machine.
I love paper craft but doing everything manual is very tedious, even I have some chinese dies (2) of the same figure just to speed up.. It works but Im very interested in the 3D look and its becoming expensive with the dies instead of buying a SVG file for 5USD.
By the way you can cut bigger than the dies you get from the paper craft companies. There are tons of free svg as well.

And there you have it. I've been looking, too, but have an Accuquilt Big, along with many dies. I have bought some dies from another manufacturer, because Accuquilt didn't have the shapes, and an adapter to use those dies in my Accuquit cutter, but other than that... I can't justify, financially, or space-wise, another machine.

Another important reason not to buy a machine is if you don’t have a good internet connection. My machine didn’t work and it was because of the terrible WiFi I had. I was given an old Cricut CRV001 and while looking for various information on how to use it, this video popped up. I was hesitant to watch it because I didn't want to be told I shouldn't have it (is what I thought you were going to say). But, I'm really glad I watched it because #1) I totally agree with what you are saying. People laugh at me for spending so much time researching any new hobby I'm trying, even as simple as learning how to loom-knit or watercoloring, but it really does pay off and saves me from buying unnecessary accessories. #2) Mine is the old cartridge based machine, and I've been able to find what I need on the internet, and I don't have to connect it to my computer. #3) I've also seen too many people jump on the bandwagon for whatever the latest and greatest thing is without thinking about if they really need it or what other things they will need to make it work and they end up wasting money. Thank you for covering this topic.

I do art for fun and I'm considering making a sticker shop. I already have a bunch of designs completed and I know exactly how to make them into stickers (with and without a cutting machine). I've printed some and hand cut them but discovered that it's quite difficult with my disability as it makes my symptoms worse especially my hands shaking which is not good when doing lots of careful cutting. The shaking makes my cutting less precise and therefore the stickers are lower quality.
This video has been helpful making sure I consider different aspects. Overall I think a cutting machine would be beneficial for me and my current career goals/plans :)

I am so excited by what the machine can do. I love crafting, and I love technology, so this is right up my alley. I’m still working at the moment, but retirement is not that far off (approx 6 years) and I am hoping that by then I will have aced the machine, and can use it to make extra money! The only problem I foresee, is that I live in South Africa, and with the Dollar Rand exchange rate being what it is, the materials are pretty expensive. Am busy looking at getting someone in the USA to send me some materials.
I can see that I am going to have lots of fun with this machine. Love It! ☺️

I got my cameo 4 for my birthday 4 years ago... and within 6 months started a business with it. Now I own 4 of them just to keep up with demand! Love my machines... but omg they give me a headache between problems with updates, or just regular old fickle machine tech problems and I'm fairly tech savvy. 😆

Excellent information! I did so much research before I bought my Cricut Joy (well over a years worth). I knew it would be perfect for me and for my crafting needs. Once I became comfortable with it, I progressed to an Easy Press. Still learning that and maybe one day, I will advance to a larger Cricut. No desire to cut wood but would like to make things that are larger than the 4.5 inch limit on the Cricut.
