The Decemberists ~The Hazards of Love Live ~The "Stitched" Version

- ~ Twelve years ago, almost to the day, on March 18th 2009, The Decemberists made the live debut of their rock opera “The Hazards of Love” at Stubbs in Austin, TX. NPR was there to film the proceedings.
Some of this footage can be found on NPR’s youtube channel and The Decemberists’ own channel. But, the complete concert with high quality soundboard audio cannot be found. At least not in the wilds of the internet. So, I took it upon myself to edit together all of the best footage I could find. Some video is taken from the Stubbs concert, one song I found from their ACL 2009 concert but mostly the footage is from the fans.
I stripped away all of the audio and used the music you hear in the video from a record The Decemberists released this year (2021) of a concert they played at the Royal Oak Music Theatre in Royal Oak, Michigan in August of 2009.
I synced the audio to the footage to the best of my abilities. The finished “Stitched” concert came out surprisingly well. The band were in great form every night.
I hope you enjoy the “Stitched” version of The Hazards of Love Live.
I do not own any of the footage or music.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: This album is easily the greatest Rock Opera ever made. It's beautiful, it's poetic, it's full of love and terror and hope, and it's musically cohesive. I will agree that there are other great concept albums out there, but this one is my favorite, for sure.
Agreed.
Truth.
people say all sorts of things that are based on nothing at all and are by general consensus pure nonsense.
Completely agree. I describe it to my friends as the best soundtrack to the best musical never made.
@@talthan opinion isn't based on nothing.
Thank you for putting together performance of this unique accomplishment of rock music. Why this was never turned into a high quality DVD is beyond me. As things stand, it is a lost moment in time and given today’s state of popular music (2023) it is quite possible we will not see accomplishment of this magnitude for another generation.
At least one of these performances was pro-shot so I expect an official release some where down the road. When? Who the hell knows.
Such An Incredible set, you are more than beautiful, pure perfection, you make me want to weep and love all at the same time .
First, thank you for this. Second, thanks for explaining exactly what you did - because this looks legit at first sight. And now I guess we just sit back and watch Shara Nova being an actual queen.
took part in this tour, orlando florida, hard rock, incredible 🤩
My dream is to make a film adaptation of this. An animation in the style of the artist Yoshitaka Amano. That would be so cool.
One of the best albums ever and I'm a child of the sixties..the poetry and emotion transports me to another world..fantastic audio..
Great to hear the pro sound tracks synced with the gritty amateur video. We need more.
I imagine this must have taken many hours of painstaking work, and it shows. Thanks for this; it's great!
This is incredible, Ryan! It makes me so happy to find, what a remarkable contribution, Thank you!
you are a blessing to this world, The Decemberists
Unfortunately I didn't see The Decemberists live between Crane Wife and The King is Dead, and I've always wondered what a Hazards of Love show would've looked like all the way through.
This is an AMAZING "stich" of live audio with live footage. Info about this video needs spread! I know there are thousands and thousands of die hard Decemberists fans like me that would absolutely love this!! Great work.
24:00 she just absolutely wins.
Miss Universe for sure!

I saw them live with this album in 2009. It was the first time I had seen them, they had both Shara Warden and Becky Stark with them. They played the whole album straight through and then came back out and played some classics. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen! I'll never forget it. The live version of The Rake Song is so incredible to see.
Rock on.
Funk used to work at a store where I bought my guitar strings.....bought a guitar from him....
This is absolutely stunning!! My favourite Decemberists album like I‘ve never seen it before. Thank you for all your efforts.
Thank you so much for creating and sharing! I had the great fortunate of seeing The Decemberists play the full Hazards of Love album May 19, 2009 at the Hollywood Palladium. It was the greatest live performance I have ever witnessed. Still gives me chills to hear this album.
I saw them in Houston the same year. Epic.
A Bower Scene is just so fucking good. Man o live.
you're doing the lord's work 🤝🏽
You have made me so happy to find this video. I wanted just to listen to it for a few minutes and I couldn't move until the video was over. Just to say I really appreciate not only the work and love that obviously you have put on this, but the talent to get such a respectful and wonderful result. Thank you, gracias!
And let me thank you for the generous and well written comment. Much obliged!
This was made with such care and dedication. Thank you, truly!
What a great job you did! Thanks
You are very welcome.
This was epic!!!!! Thank you 😍
The opening strains of organ bring back the gooseflesh all over again. So sad that it wasn't professionally filmed, but the stitching is great. It was even better than seeing The Tain performed with orchestra on Chicago's lakefront. Stunning...
'The Tain' live would be awesome. Was that on their "Long of It" tour? I think I have a bootleg of that.
Thanks so much for doing this. When they toured this album they were due to perform in Bristol UK. Unfortunately the night before in Wolverhampton, they were struck down with illness and couldn't perform for us. By the time they returned, they had a new album to promote and we never saw the Hazards of Love performed live. Until now - thanks again ! Never did find out the true story of what happened in Wolverhampton .......
this needs more views. holy shit, great work
Absolutely brilliant, thank you!
I've watched this several times through now. Excellent "stitching"! This is an amazing video for an amazing record.
excellent stitching. wow, what an effort that must have been. great show, so glad you put it together. i love colin's vocals.
Thanks so much for this, my favorite album and era of theirs.
Outstanding job! Man, if the Decemberists put out more records like this, they'd be one of my favorite bands!
This record, though, IS a favorite record.
Thanks, man. Fantastic album indeed.
For me it was the opposite this album always annoyed me for some reason- until I sat down and listened to the whole thing. Decemberists > Pink Floyd
Great work! Hats off! hazzah to the whole lot! bravo! Thank you!
Nothing short of genius.
What a brilliant and beautiful edit. Thank you so much for doing this, and for reminding me how exceptional that album really is.
Thank you so much for this! It was lovely!! Thanks for putting in the work for our viewing and singing-along enjoyment x
Thanks a lot for your work on this. It is fantastic.
What a band what an album...amazing 😎
🖤🖤🖤🤘🤘🤘
Cameraman who caught the moment at 57:40 should get a bonus.
Great work ! This is amazing 👍❗
Thanks, man. Glad to hear more people enjoying it.
and to Art
What a great effort, awesome stuff! I am wondering though, what was the reason for not using the audio from this: www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=101397853 The superior audio from the August 2009 performance?
From the NPR source you linked the audio quality was way to low. The Decemberists' official release (that I used) was of beautiful quality and perfect for my purposes.
@@thollstitched Makes a lot of sense, thanks for the answer. And again, great work editing the video together!
whos that little one
Little one? The drummer is sitting down. Maybe him.
