2017 Ford Raptor Rock Crawl Hackett Gulch Colorado

  • Trail riding Hackett Gulch near Divide, Co. I was trying to decide between it and Long water and Metburry. This is the first one to come to on the road. Really fun and it was possible to make it without body damage. The rock sliders were probably necessary though. I bent the passenger one a little somewhere. Also at the end it splits off like 3 ways. I went all the way to the left which I think maybe the hardest way to get to water? I could have drove on the small creek to an opening to turn around but wasn't sure if I was supposed to or not. So backed up to a good turn around spot. I put the mpg's on the end. That is the trip from Oklahoma to Colorado. Then I wheeled. Then reset the trip for the drive back from CO to OK.

    The fact that you did a true off-road test is nice. I hate the reviews where they only do small puddles and a little dirt. This is what Ford should embrace! Not these large RUclips want to be off-road demonstrations! This I'd say is a real representation of what's out in the trails and what this truck can overcome! Great video

      I like the ones where they walk around and show you all the paint and moon roof and tires and tailgate step and especially the INFOTAINMENT center!!! and never drive it at all!

    Couple of naysayers telling you not to do this in your Raptor, but plenty of people giving respect for using it for what it was built for! I have a 2010 raptor and take it all over these kinds of trails! Mad respect fellow Raptor, keep doing what you do!

  • @Van-Hammer

    That thing is built Ford tough. A little too wide for some spots there (I'm cringing) but capable enough in this environment. Have fun with it and take care on the trails.

    • @jofusness
      @jofusness 7 лет назад +1

      With a slightly different line, he would have never hit that tree, the trail is passable with a raptor, it DOES get tight in spots for sure tho.

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad 7 лет назад +2

      going away from the tree harmed him. that brought passenger front up the berm and leans him towards the tree. i just learned this lesson experimenting on a very similar setup recently. still a little off (also it always looks different on film so who knows) but note on the way back he's closer to the tree, more level, and not really in danger of scrape despite being closer. also doesn't have the sliding-into-it factor. either way all around good video, good truck, good teammate.

      I wheeled Hackett, longwater and metberry in my Raptor just a few weeks ago and only kissed a rock or two with the bracket that holds my runners. (I don't even consider that "damage" as it's not even a finished piece of steel.) there are challenges, but these trails are very doable without any risk of damage. Well done sir! If you care to compare, here is a little footage of me and my Raptor on the same 3 trails in that area (including this trail).

      I got mine to look cool at malls and traffic jams. I use the RZR or KX450for my K5 for trails like this. AND my wife would EFFEN kill me if I scratched it up on a trail. I put a tiny nick in the paint when the breech of a rifle in my back pack made contact and I was so mad at myself. This guy ran out of F's to give, which is cool AF.

    If those flickering lights are to warn the pilots of low-flying aircraft, you might not need them on this kind of a road. Oh! And where can I find a woman who is willing to go ahead of the truck until she finds a place from which she can slip, slide down and roll under the truck as it goes by? Seriously though, I didn't turn on the sound until 14 minutes into the video but I did appreciate that you let us here the truck instead of music.

    Did u REALLY try to PUSH OFF the tree using your ARM? Hilarious! Didn't think u was gonna MAKE it that squeeze was pretty TIGHT. Just a few pointers alwayS drop ur spare tire and put it in the BED. Those sharp rocks could have given u a flat and u wouldn't have been able to reach it had u gotten STUCK. Also I didn't see a WINCH. Tell me u had it hidden under the hood. Great job bro.

    • @cocheran
      @cocheran  7 лет назад +1

      Rooster has something to do with videoing on phone I reckon? They don't flash in real life. They may flash to fast to see and the frame rate on video picks it up? I wouldn't think they would flash if led but I noticed it right off when I first videoed mine when I first got it

    • @rooster3019
      @rooster3019 7 лет назад

      Hmm. Like, you; I am puzzled why led would do that.

    • @thomasvigilante4223
      @thomasvigilante4223 7 лет назад +1

      It's refresh rate of the LED's from the driver circuit that powers them. Most high power LED's do this but the rate depends if you can see it on video or not. This flashing is way to fast for the human eye to react in time so it looks like constant light in real life.

    • @BasicBodThor
      @BasicBodThor 7 лет назад

      LED's flash on camera - it's to do with their refresh rate vs the cameras FPS i think.

      what if you're addicted to offroad and all of your friends got house/dog/married/kid(s) in the last 1-3 years? this used to be my policy but as we hit our thirties i needed a new method. if my 1 friend who still wheels but has a lot going on can't go i tell him what trail i'm doing. if i'm not back next day, gf alerts him, he's gotta come rescue me. i go with enough food to be there for 5 days comfortably, stretched wayyyy more if i was concerned about anything dire. bring enough stuff to make endless fires and enough blankets to keep anyone warm. i also have a heater, axes, knives, hatchets, gun, ratchet straps, 500' paracord, hats, shovel, batteries, lights, dual wall tent, 0º sleeping bag, tarp, full set of base layers, sweaters, water, beer, jackets, towels, paper towels, TP, air compressor, tire plug kit, first aid kit, shoes, boots, gloves, and film equipment.. oh and memory foam mattress inside of a insulated topper and probably 50 other things. so yes, while you SHOULDN'T go wheeling by yourself, if you're an antsy stubborn dummy like myself- you can manage your risk. there IS risk getting hurt (i try to not be "by myself" in the traditional sense, no passenger) but i have completely mitigated mechanical failure. hell i could be up there for 2 months and it'd probably be the best vacation i ever had! but in all seriousness if i'm going alone to combat the injury risk i try to pick pretty heavily trafficked areas so hopefully a random would see me. while i totally agree, i also know some people are going to do it alone. if you are, please be prepared for real. have fun!
