  • Yamaha Tracer 900 has been around for some years now, with the same CP3 Engine the beating heart. But Yamaha Tracers over the years have had their problems, Uncomfortable seats, Soft suspension, Terrible split TFT screen and wind noise problems.... So has the Yamaha GT plus model fixed these problems? Is this now the perfect sports tourer or another could have been from Yamaha?

    Great review, so the big question… would you trade your Africa Twin for the tracer GT plus?

      @ontheroadadventure  5 месяцев назад +9

      Good Question..... For me the Tracer 900 GT plus is an Awesome machine now they have fixed the TFT and few other niggles that bothered me on the previous tracer. Would i change my AT for it..... No, not here in the uk.... The sporty aspect of the bike has me frustrated when im constanty up behind much slower traffic. If i lived somewhere with so many speed restrictions and traffic where you could use this to its full capability then Yes i would. For now the AT stays as its perfectly suited to our touring needs

      Hi, another great review.. I have had 2 Tracers to date. First one in 2015, and my current one which is a 2019 model. In all my long life biking it's the only bike I have had 2 of.. Brilliant bike.. Reliable and the engine is a peach.. The new plus looks the dogs bollocks.. The Tracer is a jack of all trades.. Reliable, excellent tourer even 2 up.. ( I have toured Europe several times.). And a hooligan side when you want it to be..

    It's a great video, but it's funny how people overlook the brilliance of the bike's features such as the engine, comfort, and steering, simply because of the dashboard. Let's be honest, the dashboard doesn't play a big role as most of the time we're focused on the road and enjoying the views.

    I bought this exact bike back in August, replacing a Kawasaki 900RS I’d owned for 5 years. I also own a BMW 1250RT but that is for two up touring. Prior to the RT I’d owned an FJR (4 in all) for years, so am well versed in Yamahas. I can endorse everything you say in the video. The handling is excellent, the engine is superb, and the comfort is great. It’s a bit less comfortable for pillions and, after the RT, the luggage is only okay, but more than adequate for one up touring. Yes, the adaptive cruise is great, the dashboard is excellent, but it could do with self cancelling indicators, and the switchgear is somewhat cluttered and can be fiddly. Not mentioned in the video (because you didn’t connect your phone) is the GPS via phone arrangement. It really is poor. The connection to the phone can be quite fiddly and the mapping is very basic, not even including a winding routes option. But, hey, just mount a Tomtom or Garmin and you’re sorted.
    Anyhow I enjoyed your report!

      funny i did discuss the app and connectivity with the Yamaha Dealership, who of course assured me it worked flawlessly - However i am yet to find a bike where it all works as it should, especially when you are also bluetoothed the satnav and coms etc... I always find a dedicated satnav is much better than any of these apps. We dont use the connectivity on the Afica twins we have and it was the same story on the triumph GT pro

    Great video and a nice bike, I've never ridden the new Tracer 900. I came close to buying one about 18 months ago but finished up with a Kawasaki Versys 1000, which I didn't keep for long as it was just way too top heavy with luggage and a pillion 😮‍💨Odd how the Tracer has electronic front suspension but manual rear?? I love the radar cruise control, so much less faff!

      @ontheroadadventure  5 месяцев назад +2

      I found it much easier to use than expected, the list of tech on the new tracer is impressive but I like how user friendly it is. Like the electronic suspension for example, I don’t have 12 different modes to choose from, the bike decides the settings needed. Yes the rear is manual but I have to say it felt very good indeed. I too found the Kawasaki a bit to big and too heavy

I would say though having ridden previous Gens of Tracers that this one now has adjustable rear suspension and its good quality too so i would expect it to be much better than the older ones. Tech ageing.... Well thats going to be problem for all new bikes and for that reason im not worrying about it.... No point worrying about things we cannot change

    There is absolutely nothing wrong with the twin screen if one knows what to look for and where.
    The real issue was the rider seat angling down like a sports bike and the handle bar position.
    Put the seat mod to correct the position, raise the handle bars a bit, and the bike becomes best-in-class.

    That really is a nice bike, and good engine sound, It seems very sporty. Just one problem with that app that adjusts the speed itself When behind a truck or car etc . What if there is a car right up your rear and the bike slows down and the car goes straight into the back of the bike? I would want full manual control purely for safety incase I have to accelerate in an emergency? Its just my opinion but think that could potentially cause accidents? I think its very dangerous to take the human out of full control. Let me know what you think about this. Would love to know what Yamaha have to say aswell. Awesome video and bike review though. I am digging the blue rims! Not overly keen on the pointy bit at the bottom of the wind shield though.@11:25 Just looks like it belongs on another bike if that makes sense? It' not quite the same engine as on the original Tracer. Displacement was increased a couple of years ago from 847 to 890 cc, and internal improvements were made as well. The bigger engine makes more torque lower down in the rev range.

      @@ontheroadadventure Yes, the two are very different in character. Similar power ratings, but the Guzzi has more torque and it's available all over the rev range. Much more tech on the Guzzi compared to my older Tracer and the Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes on the Mandello are superior to the Tracer's, as expected. I also like that the Guzzi has shaft drive, so no more chain maintenance to do. Styling is subjective of course but I think the Mandello is one of the more attractive motorcycles available today.

      I have to agree about a shaft drive, keeping on top of our chains when you ride as much as we do is a never ending chore, as is washing the bikes! I really must try out a moto Guzzi and see what all the fuss is about

    Sorry meant to say in last comment you definitely do not want to be using adaptive cruise control in icy or wet roads. Especially on a bike. its bad enough in a car or truck. Not trying to be negative. Just helping all stay safe on the roads.

      @@ontheroadadventure If you have a spin out for example. Only use it when you have full traction, I am sending Yamaha my thoughts on this and see what they say or any advice etc. But imagine the wheel slipping but the engine is maintaining the speed on ice or if you suddenly get some black ice that you did not know was there. Ok at low speed but anything above that. The adaptive cansor reaction time would a be a huge pointer factor aswell. In fog and ice. Its not so much whats in front, its what is coming up behind you if that makes sense.

    • @ontheroadadventure

      My guess is that the traction control would take over in the even of traction and cut the power but i dont know that, its just my assumption. We have to remember that these are riding aids and not in any way a transfer of responsibility from rider to bike@@BeekaysBikesandTheAbbeyLanders
