Last year I traded my 1200 Tiger for a 900 GT Pro. I agree with your assessment and am very pleased with the overall bike, not missed the power and certainly don't miss the weight of the big motor. I have spent many full days on the 900 and can honestly say that it's an all day comfortable bike. Love it!
I bought a 2024 900 Rally Pro in February, and I absolutely love it. FWIW, I'm 5'8" tall amd the wind protection is extremely good for me. Better than my 2019 1290 SAS with the standard screen for sure. On par with the 1250 gs. Can confirm the new rally pro is fantastic off road as well.
I had the 800 tiger and got the 900 tiger gt pro last year and I JUST LOVE IT even if it's not the 2024 version, best bike I have ever had and with 64 years of age I have had many bikes 🙂 even though I live in Germany I would never think of buying a BMW GS that's my favourite HATE bike LOL, at the time I bought my Tiger the Panniers were given off free for buying a new bike so 0ver 1000,- € saved 👍
Used to have a Tiger 800 XCA, loved it, except for breaking capabilities when 2 up and loaded. And somehow top heavy. Was my 1st bike, right after passing my licence. I am 63, and I think a 1200 would probably be too heavy now. Looking forward to get the savings for a 900 GT Pro, fully equipped.
My Mutli V2 is the goldilocks of Multistrada, and i love it. This GT Pro 900 is in that category i think. And there is a difference between displacement and horsepower. No one needs any more than 80-100 HP imho.
50+ yo Grammy here!! So from a bit of a less usual perspective. I chose the ‘24 Tiger 900 GT Pro for my first bike and could NOT have chosen better. Your vid covers all the reasons. Manageable, smooth and with plenty of torque and go to keep a VW Golf R driver happy. Updated safety features also a big plus. Of course I’ve dumped it, so I CAN report that picking it up (w proper body mechanics) is doable. The Triumph sound is there… and awesome. LOVE this bike AND your videos!
I moved from a GS to a Multi V2S, the ‘mid range’ adv bikes are enough for most and a lot more fun on most of our roads, they are also a hell of a lot better vfm, I like the Tiger and will try one next change👍.
Great review thanks. Had the 94 Tiger 900 and been on a Trophy 1215SE the last few years. Had looked at the new Tiger 1200 but this bike is all I need.
At the start of the year I purchased tiger 900 Aragon gt. I don't understand all the guff about vibes. I only get vibes right at the top of the rev range. At normal riding speeds (UK), Its a lovely smooth, tractable engine with more than enough power . It also has a great sound track.. Also the seat is all day comfortable. The only things that bug me about the bike are the lower crash bars, which get in the way of my size 11 boots and the crap rev counter design.
Great review! I bought the ‘24 Tiger GT Pro, put about 2k kms on it, and it’s a dream. Really wonderful bike, fast & planted on straights, confidence-inspiring on corners. I’d say it’s far & away better than my previous BMW GS 850. Btw, I’m 65 yrs old, just started riding (again - last time was in my teens) 2 years ago. Couldnt have gotten a better bike.
I recently hired one for a 2,000 mile tour of Japan and was very impressed by everything about it👏 I have a R1250 GS Rallye for touring and didn’t once miss it while riding the tiger and actually preferred the riding position 🙂👍
I am one of those who spent up big on a GS and due to damaged and weaker shoulders have dropped her in the driveway three times :(. I need a smaller bike. Had a Tiger 800 for 8 years and loved every minute on it. The 900 GT Pro is already on my shortlist to test ride. I just really wish they still sounded like a Triumph Triple. I'll also be looking at the Striple RS and Speed Twin RS when it comes out. Only definite plan so far is to come back to Triumph. Should be one of those three.
Now I might feel older than I once was but at 36 I can honestly say that the huge 1200-1300s have never really sang to me. With the power and torque available at 700-900cc I figure I’m fine for all that I do (and quite a lot of things I don’t). And let’s not even get started on the costs of the halo-bikes. All things being said the Tiger 900 GT Pro looks brilliant for what it is. Not sure I’d pick it over the GT, has too many things I don’t think I need. Depends on what models the dealer has left over I guess. Both models have cruise control and the same engine and that’s the biggie for me. Triumph OEM options are horribly priced IMO, rather spend a few days over winter fitting the Shad boxes I already have, some Oxford heated grips, barkbusters and pocket the difference tbh. Might not be all-matching all-singing but as a happily married man my days worrying about matching everything is over. Besides, it’s a middleweight ‘adventurer’ for the middle-aged. I’ll be grand.
I have the 2022 900GTP..... Pros; Great chassis, lovely little engine. The 900 is PLENTY fast enough, can tour 2 up with luggage! The BHP figures dont do it justice. Light and easy to manoeuvre, good on fuel- up to to 55Mpg, sometimes a tad more. Quick shifter is good ( but I hardly use it). Lights are great. Cons... The Bluetooth on mine is "going though the change" as it is hit & miss if it connects or stay connected. But when it works its good to be fair. The satnav system doesnt hold up as far as I can see. Its a marmite system.... you either love it or hate it... I have given up with it (So it was a waste of money) Servicing is "taking the P" expensive (See below)!! The local dealership isn't great TBH. (£300 for a annual service / £500 for a 6000 mile service! and if you're at 12000 miles and you need the valve clearance sorting, you're over £1000!)...... I will be selling my 900GTP next year (before the 12K miles is up) and probably buying a new GS !!! Note on servicing.... I can get the first 3 year service deal with my local BMW dealer for...Wait for it..... UNDER £1,000 to cover the first 3 years! Penultimate Con. Depreciation! My bike cost me just over £15,500 ( with extras) in June 2022. In February of 2024 ( Less than 2 years) I was offered just £7,500 (against a BRAND NEW BIKE!).... That is 50%+ Depreciation in just 18 months! Ps. I got offered less from the BMW dealer and another independent dealer didn't want it!🥺 Last "Con"; and by far the worst.... Has the 2022 GT Pro has WORST seat I have ever had the misfortune to have to sit on..... My bum goes numb after around an hour and its getting WORST as the seat beds in. Nb. I believe the 2024 bike has a different seat and it REALLY needed it! If it wasnt for this GOD AWFUL seat and the servicing costs, It would rank amongst the best bikes I have ridden in 25 years of biking.
The shape of the panniear going up in the air is a negative vs the 750gs that is more horozontal and comfort for the passenger. Higher for all to climb onto also. hope i can re use the heated grips button for lights; or anything else, thats useful
I have the Aragon - last model before the new one, weirdly it’s has less vibes than my previous GT pro - literally no vibes at all, thought of waiting for new one but decided to go for Aragon. Such good bikes, but yeh a little more bhp would be welcome but I won’t lose sleep over it 😂
It amuses me a 900cc 220kg bike is now considered a middleweight. But then I am old…. I’m sparing you the sermon that starts, when I was young… Suffice to say I’m still on two wheels annoying as many car drivers as I possibly can 🙂✌🏻
Lovely bike..very very comfortable I’d say more comfortable than my GS ..I had to buy one and live with it to find the vibey engine(2023) ..could I go back and retry ? Nah you’d never go back to a girlfriend that cheated on you !! ..also around 25kg weight difference to make it a “middleweight” I don’t find my GS that much difference tbh ..triumph the weight is higher up ….GS like a wheelbarrow
i hear the pannier racks and crash bars on 2024 GT Pro are not compatalable with 22,23. Things moved around and no 3rd party has them yet for 24' . Test ride today and was so ez to ride/maneuver. Its like a 500x with a huge engine and all extras !
I got my medal I will not overlook this bike Tim 😂 this seems to be where adventure is going I like the 890 too. Think you overtook me on one once near Helmdon. Anyway, cheers for the video enjoyable as always!
After two 1290 Super Adventures, I now have a Desert X (which represents terrible value compared to the Tiger 900s but it's a Ducati). Maybe it is age I- 'm 64 and I did have a bad experience with a Super Adventure R and a slight camber (the RAC called the local CoOp for a youth to come and help me pick it up!😳) - but I have a Thruxton R with the lowered bars, I'll happily ride for several hours so not completely decrepit yet... It is not so much the weight and size, more the speed... The 1290's just seemed bored unless you were going very fast indeed - and you can only do that for so long in the UK with the relentless lowering of speed limits and crap road surfaces - so much as I loved the tech on the 1290S (which worked most of the time!) it had to go but I still miss the acceleration.
Good review - been struggling to find a review that covers the 2024 model (GT Pro) from a perspective of carrying luggage and pillion - would be stepping down from a GSA 1250 - know it’s gonna be way different but worried I will miss the capability of the bigger bike for long distance touring - on shopping list so far is the 900 GT Pro or the Husky Norden 901 Expedition
Your vid was presaged by that marvellous Injury Lawyers for Thou ad. That set up the premise for your content perfectly: the ad involves a 7-8 year old Shirley Temple wannabe stroking a helmet. It really brought the age concern aspect of your vid into perspective. Please don't tell me how the effing ad ends. Your vid was great. Ta
In the USA we receive few reviews on many motorcycles just POS Harleys and superbikes. Very few triumphs or the Honda NT1100 as it will not be imported to the US per honda and the honda dealers refusing to handle them. They say it will hurt the Superbike sales from the younger jerks or the sales of the expensive Goldwing. So the reviews of the NT1100 comes the EU. Few triumphs here also. Have a 2014 triumph Trophy a great bike but hard to find anyone willing to service it. 250 miles to triumph dealer and shop.
Cool review! Currently looking to pick up an adv bike that I can occasionally take my wife out on, and still enjoy on my own for some off-road fun. I've got a proper dirt bike for single track stuff, but I'd really like something that can do some lighter off reading, but make the connecting roads between off road sections more enjoyable. Had pondered a 1290 SAR, but with the sand we have down here in Florida, I'm not sure a bike like that would be good for me... I'm far from an expert rider. I had been pondering the f900 gs and the tiger rally pro... How do you feel those bikes compare? Especially keeping in mind that I'd like to bring my wife along on occasion, to try and get her more interested in getting a bike of her own....
any commnets on the pannier seat taht was to be improved over 23' model ?? i like the pannier grab rails. I Wish Shad had them as a bolt on to the 4P pannier rails. .
the 850sport just got cancelled for asia that was 196kg;; perfect and seame seating as the tiger GT for great pannier riding. Less options sure but 4500.00 usd less also.
I am very old from the days before motorcycles got all segmented into markets & niches. In the 90s & noughties we used to tour all round Europe for two weeks at a time on Sports Bikes (ZX7) with soft luggage etc why buy something dull like this? You can tour on Street Triple… & I’m going to
I can't believe the amount of whinging about bikes these days, if its not vibes it's buffeting or lack of comfort, cruise control or heated this or that....ffs just ride the damn thing and enjoy life lol....Way too many folk are striving for stretchy comfortable pants before their time. Sorry Tim this comment is not aimed at you, just a general observation 😊
Just had a 2 hour test ride on 900 gt pro had three issues with it biggest one it wants to stay upright you have to put effort in to make it turn in then there's the heated grips on full same as my multistrada lowest setting not good and then the poor wind protection on the plus side engine and gearbox were brilliant. Got back on my 950 multistrada and was shocked how quickly it changed direction compared to the tigèr so sadly not going to buy one.
Can you select one default rpm, speed with selection of tpms, temps, gas, time, as background. like bmw has. many sub displays to choose from . the GT pro is price-area specific. for sure. i hear so many weights listed on so many vdo's. Dry listed at 200kg there abouts; full for sure 222 kg. What is is really to compare with the 500x at 200kg and the 750gs at 222kg; dry.
The ktm would be a poor choice. They have some reliability issues. You’d be wise to go with the tiger, and in my opinion, the RP is the better way to go if you’re tall enough even if you don’t plan on riding dirt. You do lose the electric suspension and that’s actually a good thing. Tire size makes little difference and the suspension is much better. Nice video tho!!!
Are KTM 890 reliability issues still a thing? Genuinely curious to know - I know the 790 had a bad patch. My 1290 SAS was fine in the 2 years I had it.
I have a 2021 KTM 890 Duke R with 12,000 miles as well as my Tiger. The 890 has been great minus thermostat housing leak and cam cover leak. 45 minutes to fix either problem. Overall trouble free. The cam failure issue is in the back of mind, but I guess I'll just deal with it when I do the first valve service.
@@timrodieridesI had a ‘22 890 Adventure, coolant leak at the thermostat, cold start issues requiring 8-10 restarts (would start and run on only one cylinder), random software issues requiring shutting the bike off and restart it to clear them, the TFT dash would cloud up and rain inside (eventually “etching” the inside of the glass.), and a quick shifter that would sometimes decide no to be one, I sold it and move on, won’t be back for another one.
LOL at 5:56 is the garage I use because it is the only one near me in Newdigate that has premium unleaded (But really because it has a Greggs and a Greggs Filthy Sausage Roll is a thing of wonder on a ride)
Honestly, I ride/drive past that petrol station every time I'm out filming (it's 5 mins from my house) and have only just clocked it has a Greggs! Is it a new thing? I'm in deep trouble...
@@timrodierides lol yep it opened about 2 months ago. Likewise its 5 mins from me and sad to say I often make a detour to go that way. Bad bad habit .......
One of the reasons I did away with my 900 was the HORRIBLE ‘tales of the topographic oceans’ display - well done Triumph for listening to ( disappointed) users
Ooo. Tough one. They’re both brilliant. Multi is sexier and more powerful, but I think I prefer the tiger… marginally. Multi is more manageable though!
The earlier iterations of the Yamaha triple had better sound/character. I had a 2019 Tracer 900 and now a 2021 mt09. It sounds less like a characteristic triple cylinder engine imo.
Hi! I’m getting old. I have a GS. I’m struggling with moving it around. So the Tiger is interesting. However when I tried the old one I found the width of the tank-frame-engine section was spreading my legs (!) too much, and as a male that’s something I don’t enjoy too much. Did the width bother you?
It didn't! It's not the narrowest bike (a parallel twin would be narrower), but I didn't find it uncomfortable at all. Every time I hop on my MT-10 I feel as if I'm about to give birth...
Nice review Tim but are you giving away secrets of your wealth when you suggest after getting crushed in the garage you’d be found by your housekeeper 😅😅😅
You won't get stuck under a 1300GS (or any other BMW boxer twin, for that matter) because the cylinder heads stick out and give your legs plenty of room to wiggle out when it's on its side. Just saying. :p
something wrong to have vibrations to begin with ? 6'3 makes it far easeier to handle, hold etc. I'm at 6' its about the max seat height. The weight is still heavier than my 500x at 200 kg. . No add a 65kg person on the the back and you have weight to handle, with possible sharp turns etc. at 72 yrs old. I'm thinking 200kg woiuld be great but this 900 engine
just over 200kg dry. should only quote dry weights to compare actual. its light with little gas. and ez to handle. I hear both traction control and riding modes can only be changes while your stopped ? just tested a 2024 gt pro ! Why
I bought a brand new tiger 900 in 2022, i traded it in last march [2023] for the old version 800....apart from the headlight and clocks, i hated the 900...each to their own.
@@jammyj1211I’m can’t speak for him but as a guy who has owned several Triumph motorcycles, including the Tiger 900 GT as can guess. The typical triumph 3 cylinder engine is extremely smooth. In the Tiger 900 the use what’s calls a T-plane crank which mimics a V-twin and it’s very grunty and viby. I actually love my Tiger 900 but the character of the engine is totally different than the typical triple engine including the Tiger 800s.
I am grateful for the informative tip. I was unaware that Mario had revised his preferred method for addressing ED. While his previous suggestion was sound, it was somewhat difficult to implement. I recently go’ogled Mario Volpstein and discovered his new method to be significantly more straightforward and potent.
Last year I traded my 1200 Tiger for a 900 GT Pro. I agree with your assessment and am very pleased with the overall bike, not missed the power and certainly don't miss the weight of the big motor.

At age 73 I gave up my 2018 Fat Bob FXFBS for the Tiger 900 GT pro. Glade I did it too
thinking of the same. 72 yrs and wondering abouit weight/height and 2 up riding.
Glad you enjoying the change. I couldn't part with my 2014 Fat bob, but bought a 2024 tiger 900. Loving the Tiger! Harley not ridden as often now.

Great presentation and love the humour. I have the 800 XRt. This 2024 version seems the biz, but is rather pricey.

If only you could get the GT Pro with the seat height of the Rally Pro. Otherwise, looks to be the perfect bike for me. Nice video.
Agree - slow CPUs are history
2021 T900 gt pro , no problem with vibes from me . T plane crank brings lots of grunt from low revs. 4:49
can you rewire the heated grips signal to other aux lighting.?
Never needed heated grips, even at florida winters.
need a larger tinted screen for sure to block sun off the tft.
How does it compare with the GT tracer???
I don’t mind a dark opening 👍🏻
That would be "unpegged", I would think.
Excellent review.
Hahaha that made me chuckle. Thank you!
any commnets on the pannier seat taht was to be improved over 23' model ?? i like the pannier grab rails. I Wish Shad had them as a bolt on to the 4P pannier rails. .
the 850sport just got cancelled for asia that was 196kg;; perfect and seame seating as the tiger GT for great pannier riding. Less options sure but 4500.00 usd less also.
Hi Tim... wondering how you felt the metzeler tourance tyres preform on this bike?
Which on would you rate the better bike between the Tiger 900 GT Pro or Multistrada V2s?
@Tim, so what would you buy Tiger 900 GT Pro or Multistrada V4 (if you ignore the extra cost)?
2 up riding the same; ? service support and cost or parts /?
bigger, tinted windshield is first to add. is there a bar above the tft for a phone mount ?
Lovely machine
Great bike and Best colour too...
What is is really to compare with the 500x at 200kg and the 750gs at 222kg; dry.
i assume the top box and pannier racks are seperated ?
I have a 2023 norden 901 , which is basically a ktm 890 adventure . The only problem I've had was a slow leak at the front tire , otherwise perfect
@@timrodieridesI had a ‘22 890 Adventure, coolant leak at the thermostat, cold start issues requiring 8-10 restarts (would start and run on only one cylinder), random software issues requiring shutting the bike off and restart it to clear them, the TFT dash would cloud up and rain inside (eventually “etching” the inside of the glass.), and a quick shifter that would sometimes decide no to be one, I sold it and move on, won’t be back for another one.
same weight as the 750gs that is noticeably top heavy and harder to handle at 72 yrs old. Get it down to 200 kg. It's ez for me to handle.
How would you compare it the 900 GS?
just add more rubber in the handlebar frame. if it vib's. pannier rails; ? wait till you add another 12" of box on each side !!
hows' the pillion sit ok with that top box. illuminated buttons is one more thing to fail/fix.
Thanks for the video Tim! What's your view on the GT Pro in comparison to the Tracer 9 GT +?
I'm curious as well!
I live just over the road from there and have decided to avoid turning left as I go in the door 🤣
@@DontPanicDear Plan. 👍
Great video thanks👍😎🏍️
Thanks for the kind comment!
Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro or the (small one) Honda Africa DCT 2024 ?
I would like to know that, too
One of the reasons I did away with my 900 was the HORRIBLE ‘tales of the topographic oceans’ display - well done Triumph for listening to ( disappointed) users
I'm looking at one of these or the Ducati Multistrada V2S in place of a GS, which is too heavy so wanting a sub 1000cc touring bike, any thoughts?
Ooo. Tough one. They’re both brilliant. Multi is sexier and more powerful, but I think I prefer the tiger… marginally. Multi is more manageable though!
How do you think this compares to 24 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT + when looking at only road use?
The tracer feels narrower if you want a triple…
is it ez access to switch from road to rain mode; a quick flick while driving. ?
It is one press of the mode switch, and one press of the toggle. Very easy.
Nice review Tim but are you giving away secrets of your wealth when you suggest after getting crushed in the garage you’d be found by your housekeeper 😅😅😅
Haha, I was just presuming most GS riders with full Touratech gear have a batman to get them out of bed each morning
Triumph needs to add their shaft drive to their 900 gt pro
wish i could configure the display to add a digital RPM in Addition . Does the Ring help anyone ?
You won't get stuck under a 1300GS (or any other BMW boxer twin, for that matter) because the cylinder heads stick out and give your legs plenty of room to wiggle out when it's on its side. Just saying. :p
What if your leg is, say, completely squished into the ground *by* the cylinder head?
@@timrodierides Then you'll have the plot for a motorcycle based horror film? Maybe one could then saw through one's femur with a penknife!
something wrong to have vibrations to begin with ? 6'3 makes it far easeier to handle, hold etc. I'm at 6' its about the max seat height. The weight is still heavier than my 500x at 200 kg. . No add a 65kg person on the the back and you have weight to handle, with possible sharp turns etc. at 72 yrs old. I'm thinking 200kg woiuld be great but this 900 engine
Can u pick riding modes while riding the bike ? or do you have to stop first
You can change them, but not into one that disables TC/ABS - you have to come to a stop to do that.
@@timrodierides Test rode one recently and great ride, not sure about the noticeable vibes through the foot pegs.
I am also curious.
why is the tft blurred out intentionally on some areas/
just over 200kg dry. should only quote dry weights to compare actual. its light with little gas. and ez to handle. I hear both traction control and riding modes can only be changes while your stopped ? just tested a 2024 gt pro ! Why
Terry!!!
Oh here we go
Crackcam, made me laugh......a lot. Keep up the good work.
I bought a brand new tiger 900 in 2022, i traded it in last march [2023] for the old version 800....apart from the headlight and clocks, i hated the 900...each to their own.
Curious what about the 800 you like better than the 900.
With this TFT software and awful user experience I will never buy a new Tiger, neither a 900 nor a 1200. I will keep my Gen3 Tiger 1200.
I am grateful for the informative tip. I was unaware that Mario had revised his preferred method for addressing ED. While his previous suggestion was sound, it was somewhat difficult to implement. I recently go’ogled Mario Volpstein and discovered his new method to be significantly more straightforward and potent.
🥇
Do you have to stand like that, darling?!
Like what? I do several odd standings in this video you’ll need to be more specific 😂
So basically Triumph like to pull your pants down on all accessories like most other bike manufacturers 🤷🏻 #ripoffbritain
T Plane = NO
