I own a 2023. I wouldnt have bought the bike without the engine being the way it is. Been riding for over 10 years now. Been on everything from a vespa, to my 200mph modified ZX14r and everything in between. The vibey T Plane is my favorite engine ive ever had the opportunity to operate. It genuinely feels like the bike is a animal beneath you, and it rewards you differently at different RPMs. The smoothness of every other engine ive experienced now feels almost like some electric car, and the tiger is SO SO satisfying to open up and feel it come alive underneath you like some muscle car. But yes, if you want to hop on the highway and drone out to eat up miles and nothing else, sure, get a goldwing or K1600, or better yet, take a car. But i stand by it, the 2022, and 2023 tiger is something different, something special, something that actually feels alive.
I owned a Tiger 900 which I really loved. Best mid class ADV I have ever owned. Then I went for the 2022 Tiger 1200 Rally Pro. The same engine concept as the T900 but it was in no way as enjoyable as the T900. And by far not as compy as the T900 (or my 2013 Tiger Explorer). I did an off-road tour in Spain followed by an 4 week trip in Austria with it. I really missed the T900. The T1200 Rally Pro was quite a disappointment. So I'm very happy with the 2024 update. Better engine, better clutch and clutch lever, no stalling in low revs and a better seat!

I've ridden my '23 Rally Explorer for hours on end, down the highway and I've never understood the complaints about vibration. After about 130 km/h there's a bit, but I killed that with bar end weights and Grip Puppies. It's pretty rare I go faster than that for an extended period because I need my licence to make a living. As far as stalling is concerned, that may have simply been a mapping issue. Mine stalled on me once as I slowed down in 2nd gear and pulled the clutch in. At its first service, there was a firmware update and it hasn't done it in the 10,000 kms since. I've ridden a '24 and the differences made aren't enough for me to take a loss on a trade. Very happy camper here.
Copium much. You know it's not true but want to convince yourself you made the correct decision when it is a shitty bike especially when compared to the bmws and multistradas.
Sorry bro. That feeling of yours is called decision reinforcement. The fact that Triumph has made the changes is that the problem existed. One look at the sales chart shows the GS is king of the class. BMW had 40 years to perfect their machine and it shows. The Tiger will always be the second best in the ADV class for a while.
Glad you enjoy your bike, but anyone that's ridden the older model with the even firing order would know that it was what made the bike an absolute treat!
@@ajojoseph6052 I bought a used 2020 Tiger because of the incredible deal I got and I can say it is the best sounding ADV (more of a sport touring machine, really) especially with an aftermarket pipe - but the GS was and always will be my first choice if I had the money for it.
@@uttamgala7186 Yes the 1200s are out on big discounts at least in the US. I saw one for 1000s off MSRP and free panniers. BMWs are also discounted but still not by much. I brought my GSA last year for much under MSRP due to overstock by dealers and timing. Plus the BMW is more accessible for shorter riders with factory low suspension. The old Tiger came with low suspension and new one deleted and added a gimmick when sales were bad. Its really hard to make a bad bike these days. Sadly the bigger Tiger will sit on the shelf in spite of its strengths
Nice one Si. Having owned a 1200GT Explorer (for 3 months), it needed fixing, I completely failed to gel with it and traded it for an R1250RS which is way better for my application. Glad to see they've addressed some of the issues I had with it.
Agreed but it remains a singularly top heavy beast which is a pain to move around, especially when loaded. I sold mine because I was fed up wrestling the thing.
I absolutely love my 2020 Desert Edition. Now with a pipe on it, I love that sweet, sweet triple symphony even more every time I get on the throttle in the twisties!
Staying with my 1250GS. Soooo much better at low speed handling, loads of torque and enough power for my needs. I purchased the BMW after test riding both the Tiger and the BMW.
Good job. Was pleased to see you did the review of this bike in MCN recently. Enjoyed watching this for the roads as this is my old stomping ground! Interestingly, this may be the first RUclips video where I was very familiar with the roads and noticed the bends looked more open in the camera field of view than I know them to be in real life.🤔
Lovely scenery to match your superb review Simon, thank you. I live 30 mins from the factory and this patriotic Brit would love to buy a Triumph, but I didn't hear anything to prise me away from my beloved Ducati V2S. Keep them coming please!
I was looking to change from my 1250GS end of 23, the Tiger 1200 was very much on the shortlist, so many good points but I felt the engine was so harsh by comparison. The previous 1200 had a great engine. Despite loving other aspects I couldn’t get past the vibes. Bought a 1250GSA.
The GS boxer vibrates less than the 1200? Sincerely asking. When I test rode a 1250, I did not like it...Never ridden a 1200. Daydreaming about the 900 Rally Pro!
I have to say I was surprised especially with the reputation the boxer has. I’ve two friends who have 2023 tigers, both ridden my GS and find the BMW engine smoother. Don’t get me wrong, they love their Triumphs but one said he thought the Tiger felt more “ agricultural “ his words.
On their new 900 they've increased power with new pistons, etc. Have they also made similar engine changes highlighted in this video to reduce the vibration on the 900?
I have a 2017 Explorer XRx and absolutely love it. 'Based on the comments, I think I will do everything possible to keep in running and make it my last bike. I also don't need/like all the tech jammed into the latest versions of anything. My cat has ride modes and a non-LCD display. As long as the basic bits stay in good safe working order, I'll put up as many miles as I can squeeze into the time I have left to ride. Brilliant review as always from BikeSocial!
Had the 22 GT Pro and really suffered with the vibes through the bars. Sold it after 7000 miles. What did transform the riding was a set of Dunlop Roadsmart 4's. The Dunlops sat the bike a little higher which helped with the ground clearance and made it so much easier to put on the main stand. Got a Multi V4s now. Great review.
I own a Tiger 900 2023 model. The vibes are not a big deal as some people make out. About 85 mpg maybe you feel it a little bit but nothing that makes your hands numb or anything like that. And remember you have cruise control as well.
I test rode the GT Pro version of the 900 and the vibes on that bike were not good. Even the tank vibrated. Foot pegs quite bad, handlebars ok due to damping. For me the vibes were more than I'd expect on a new bike.
Sadly, my 2023 GT Pro has been written off by a car driver who "didn't see me". The bike was immaculate with just 4500 miles. But how shocked was I with the offer from Bennetts/AGEAS - £14K. So apparent from bad depreciation, Triumph's "update" or should I say "fix" has dumped the prices of 2022/3 models. I'm just glad I didn't have a Rally Pro, they are even worse! I'm pretty unhappy as I would have kept my bike for 5 years to reduce the depreciation. It's a superb bike, having come from mostly inline 4's I loved the response of the T Plane engine. But I can't shake the feeling that I've very been unlucky and the marketing of these updates for 2024 have done nothing to help me.
The 2023 takes a long time to break in. After 20,000 miles and 3 recommended service/maintenance calls, vibes became an afterthought at reasonable highway speeds. I almost sold it because the snatchy throttle was continually jerking my back. Fuel delivery is now notably smoother. Stalling upon take off - and slowing to a stop - is of course dangerous in traffic, but stalling is now uncommon in comparison to when it was a lower mileage bike. At first the adjustable seat seemed gimmicky, but i've learned how and when to use it and glad that it's manually operated. I rarely use the home button for anything beyond lowering the seat anyway. Though I would like to see the seat height button on the left - as occasionally I'll juggle the throttle and seat height at the same time - but no big deal. My 1200 Rally Pro has now logged 32,750 miles.
Awesome review especially explaining the issues with the original T plane crank and the analogy along with the "fix" Well done 👍 You've turned me into a subscriber subscriber
Changing preload is not the same as adding weight. If there is no statistic sag with a lighter person on board the bike will drop more with the bike loaded with a heavier person. If the bike has static sag adjusting the preload will adjust the position of the shock within the spring regardless of the weight.
Good review. I'd like to tour in Scotland again. I've got a '23 Rally Pro and this does sound like a good enhancement of the engine. I found vibes only mildly annoying when cruising at 80mph+, which luckily isn't most of my riding, but it would be nicer without them. Overall though, it is great bike. You get used to the size, the performance is excellent and with 50/50 tyres I've just fitted it was surprisingly competant on muddy green lanes. With the suspension in sport it is stiff enough for twisty roads while it can be very relaxed with the damping dialled right back.
I’m the owner of a 2020 model 1200 Tiger and the big question for me is…… do I still need to stop for 45 seconds to switch to/from off road mode and during that time getting KTM’s and GS1250’s amongst other bike nearly riding up the rear of end of my now stationary 1200!!!????
I tried three 2022 Tiger 1200s and whilst there were things that put me off, the engine was the highlight and i didnt stall it or even notice these so called issues. Despite being a great bike, the fit and finish, high service costs and poor Triumph backup put me off.
Congrats! Very good content! Please comment on the stiffness of the GT Pro front suspension....I did not like it on the 22' version....it dives a lot and the feedback is not good. I had a 2019 XCA and despite its weight, I felt more confident in breaking and tipping in compared to a 2022 test drive I rode in Interlagos (BTW it was the explorer version). How did you like it and do you think a thicker oil would improve that feeling? Tks!!!!!!
Hey there Wish you could make detailed comparison between the new tiger 1200 rally explorer and the new BMW 1300 gsa. Would be great to hear it from a pro like you. Looking forward for the video
There doesn’t seem to be an official Sat Nav mount for it in the Truimph accessories list. Anyone know where you’d mount it on one on these, as the handle for adjusting the screen is in the place it would go on a GS?
I own the 2022 Rally Explorer and I don’t see the problem with the vibrations yes they are there but definitely not intrusive but I am looking forward to lowering of the suspension but it would have been nice if it did it automatically but this is better than nothing. But I don’t believe the new engine upgrade is worth the change of my Tiger 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔so what are your thoughts on this Si 🤔🤔🤔
I've been riding the kawasaki vulcan 1600 V twin and a Victory Vision while pulling a Bushtec trailer behind me. I keep thinking of changing my riding style up in a big way. I keep seeing the Tiger. My inseam is about 31" I wonder how this Triumph Tiger would be. Does this bike have a wet clutch?
So they made a bike with an inherently unbalanced crank design which they have now had to modify to avoid unnecessary vibration and added weight to increase inertia to stop it stalling, combined with making the bike too tall for most users and have now had to add a height reduction feature….feels like they have tried too hard to appeal to a very small band of customers who are actually going to use off road…..
Have you tried one... Ok I'm biased as I own a 2023one, but for me the engine is one of the things I love the most... The character from the engine is amazing, I love it
Not everyone had that happen. It only happened to me once, at about 600 kms. After the first service last year and a firmware update, it never happened again. Must have been a mapping issue.
Good question - my GT Pro doesn’t vibe or at least vibe so much I even notice it………but the btych will on occasion stall, not funny in busy traffic or setting off on a tight turn up a hill for example
Looking to upgrade my 2016 800 xca. Ultra smooth gearbox, motor and handles very well. I would like a little more power but a viby bike after about 8 hrs. on the road is no fun. Besides they are only sending 1200s with the large tank to US. Rode a 1300 BMW. Ok bike but different. It would take some getting use to. I Guess I will just keep looking.
I start the bike, put my helmet and gloves on and the screen is up and running long before I do my gloves up. It's literally a few seconds. And you don't have to wait for it either. Fire it up and go. In a few seconds, it's all there.
Best looking TFT I’ve seen on any bike and to be perfectly honest, when you’re using it in real life the delay isn’t that noticeable. Press the button and by the time you look it’s got the next screen up.
@@Saitamabaldopm I've got $50 that says the clown that said it was "one of the shittiest tft screen on a bike ever" has never seen the bike in person, let alone ridden one. Gotta love social media. Lol
Sounds a lot better, but the lack of Adaptive Cruise is the deal breaker for me, it's a feature I've been consistently using on tour for 3 years now (KTM1290S). As a KTM rider I know all about engine "character" LOL
Trouble is where would they put the big flat plastic box housing the radar? It would be really awkward to add to the design. I find it a really ugly feature on bikes that have it (1300GS, Multistrada etc). I've been perfectly happy with standard cruise control.
A one handed review. Talk about talking with your hand …at speed. Bogus that those of us that purchased the 23’ RP has to just deal with the stalling, vibes, and the rough idling issues. Did I mention the poor dealership service structure here in the states? If I could trade for non triumph without losing my shirt I would. I won’t buy another one.
I put up with two dealerships in the PacNW because they have been good at making the best of what's available to them/us, however I've been indifferent and even soured on the parent company long before wearing out the first pair of tires on a 1200 Rally Pro
I bought a new 2023 GT PRO about 2 months ago. Put 500 hard twisty canyon miles on it in less a week, and then i traded her in due to 2 reasons: the first is cornering clearance - you said they raised the pegs. The 2nd reason was driveshaft lash/klunk, which I'd feel going from off-throttle to on-throttle at speed, which would upset suspension and chassis mid-corner, as id start to roll-on. Did they resolve this drivetrain lash???
@@rideronthestormc968 I found putting the suspension in Sports mode and being less heavy on brakes into a corner helped, but I was riding on the edge of the tyres.
As a long time Triumph owner, who still has *three* 120 Triumph degree triples & 4 cyl multies, for me Triumph can truly stick the T plane crank where the sun doesnt shine. Why they had to mess with the lovely 120 degree motors & saddle it with a vibey T plane crank & very heavy shaft is beyond me 🤷 And no I dont like bavarian twins either ! The 1200RS Speedie motor is so much smoother by comparison. So i for one i shant be buying any more Triumphs or BMW's that feel like twins 🙄
@@andrewshore262 The V4S Multistrada is a much better option for me, however I just don't want the complexity of Radar & machine speed control taken away from the rider by 6 axis imu etc either, so my Tiger SE, 94R Speedie & Street are staying, I'll probably continue to invest in more classic bikes & other vehicles, as the current Triumphs are just not for me 🤷 A 120 degree 1200RS engined chain driven Sprint RS1200 or Tiger Sport RS1200 with 17" wheels would change my mind however 🤘
@@Nell1052 The V4 Ducati Multi is a cracking machine……at one hell of a price, not sure if you’ve taken one out (not comfortable over distance for me it’s the seat) but the performance / handling put it right at the top. That said the only real complaint I have about my Triumph 1200 GT Pro isn’t vibration it genuinely is not an issue, but it will sporadically stall which if you’re not careful will bite you hard. So I’m not very impressed with situation Triumph has left owners in following this update / refresh. Fortunately for me I bagged an ex demo about a year ago with less than a 1000 miles on it and a big lump of money off the asking, love the bike, love the brand but unhappy with this latest move that’s how it goes sometimes. Hopefully they can resolve using software.
I purchased a 23 GT Explorer and noticed vibration in the handlebars. I also was thinking the 24 models had some sort of rubber bushing in the handlebar mount to help with the vibration. I did try to get my dealer to download the software to get the suspension to lower when pressing the home button. They tried and said it was only available on the Rally version. I'm not sure if they even tried to update the software or not. Great video and thanks for the information.
I purchased a 23 model GT Pro in December as I was offered such a good deal. Mine came from the dealer with the software update for the suspension so it can be done. I’m really happy with my bike although I don’t seem to be bothered by any vibrations although I assume this is a personal thing.
I bought the Evotech heavy bar ends. I do feel a difference, although the vibes didn't bother me much to start with. Re: the software update, your dealer is lying, I had the screen changed on my GT Pro under warranty and all the software updates went on including the suspension lowering one. Guess they just couldn't be bothered.
i owned the 2023 GT Explorer, but it stalled consistently, the dealership could only replicate the stall occasionally and therefore Triumph would not cover the problem under warranty. the following year they increased the weight of the crankshaft and flywheel in an effort to resolve this. Triumph never ever publicly addressed this problem or offered any recall for repair, if Triumph want to be a luxury company, then they need to start acting like one. save yourself a headache, go get a BMW.
A tremendous technical tour de force. But. So big. So heavy. So complicated. So expensive. I wouldn't dare take it on anything other than tarmac. And easy riding. The rumored 660 explorer is much more at my level, and might efen be affordable. Strange, but the bike that excites me most at the moment is the CF450MT. Which i guess says a lot about me. But if it's as good as it looks its a genuine go anywhere teavel bike. At just over a quarter of the price of this. The manufacturers of big bikes like this are losing sight of where it's at. ( my opinion) Ride safe 👍
Great review, but I wish you'd keep both hands on the 'bars. You're a much more experienced rider than me, but I can't help thinking, if you came across a rock in the middle of the road, or a patch of oil mid-turn, you'd have much more chance of staying on if both hands were involved.
The vibration problems are minimum compared with the clutch problems. I don't care if they made it in Indonesia, in China in moon, Triumph must see the problem seriously and starting recalling the bikes and fix them. They ask 24000 euro for the rally explorer so they must get serious and give a solution to Tiger owners.
For Triumph to have to redesign the new engine after only 2 years is very poor. Why didn’t they do it before! Instantly devalues the previous version massively and pisses off the owners. 😢
I sold my gold-wing for a Triumph trophy, its beats the Goldwing and BMW 1200LT, hands down in ease of maintenance and comfort, the goldwing has great power, but the Triumph Trophy beats it in weight and seat comfort....too bad they stopped making the Trophy, I'm looking for a new bike, but i need the big windshield of the trophy,...just saying....
That’s very true, I’ve just traded in my 2023 1200 Explorer for a 2024 900 GT Pro (which I did the NC500 on last week) and other than a bit of 6th gear torque for overtaking. There is no difference between the two in ridebility.
@@rickp9946 it does, but at the same time it feels just as reliable/well structured. I’m not sure if that coming across well but you know how weight makes you feel like something is well made? Anyway, the 900 is about 40/50kg lighter and it fits me personally much better. (5ft 9)
@@Saitamabaldopm Thanks for replying. I get what you mean. I’m 5ft 10-ish and 154lb/70Kg so not that big really which means I would prefer a smaller bike. I’ll try one out. Thanks again.

A bizarre review... And bizarre updates by Triumph. I have a 2023 GT Pro, but all that Triumph are doing to market their updated model is to suggest their old one was flawed. I'm very much in the camp that it is not flawed and this is all b*LL*x . Still I blame owners who unlike BMW owners are happier moaning about every minor point. Perhaps they should go and get a 1300GS and "enjoy" some of the issues with that bike. I bet the average rider won't notice any difference from these tweaks, but Triumph will pi$$ off their existing owners. By the way the suspension thing applies to the 22/23 models after a software update (you do mention it but others may miss it)
Drop the off road capability and throw the 1200 engine into the new today 800 and triumph may just rattle BMW’s S1000XR sales as big boys want comfortable tourable big bikes today
It's a really interesting idea. A comfy, sporty road bike based on either the Tiger (or even the current Speed Triple) engine would be very interesting.

Probably could sell more GT's (900&1200) if they went back to the original triple firing order....
I'd buy one.

I have done over 20,000 miles on the 2022 GT Explorer. Fantastic bike, much prefer it to the old model.
Great review!
Same with me, just about to hit 20k as well. Absolutely love the bike, best I've ever had.
It’s a hell of a lot heavier and my V2S would be a lot more fun on those roads👍
P
I was looking to change from my 1250GS end of 23, the Tiger 1200 was very much on the shortlist, so many good points but I felt the engine was so harsh by comparison. The previous 1200 had a great engine. Despite loving other aspects I couldn’t get past the vibes.
Bought a 1250GSA.
Likewise 👍 Triumphs loss, triple should be 120 crank otherwise what’s the point……
@@hartley383I agree, rode both a 1250 GS Trophy and a Tiger 1200, and while both feel agricultural to me, it's more noticeable in the Triumph.
Plus they added the handlebar damping mount on the GT Pro and Rally Pro models which was always on the Explorer models.
Did triumph make these t plane changes to the 2024 tiger 900 as well?
Awesome review especially explaining the issues with the original T plane crank and the analogy along with the "fix"
Well done 👍

Changing preload is not the same as adding weight. If there is no statistic sag with a lighter person on board the bike will drop more with the bike loaded with a heavier person. If the bike has static sag adjusting the preload will adjust the position of the shock within the spring regardless of the weight.
Simon a great video review. Well done.
No review, like a professional review. Nice work Si.👍🏻
Excellent review Simon, a real contender now 👍🏻
I’m the owner of a 2020 model 1200 Tiger and the big question for me is…… do I still need to stop for 45 seconds to switch to/from off road mode and during that time getting KTM’s and GS1250’s amongst other bike nearly riding up the rear of end of my now stationary 1200!!!????
I’m in Spain at the moment on my 2022 GT Explorer. I’ve done loads of miles on it and I simply don’t get the complaints about the vibration.
Tks!!!!!!
The best reviewer. 👍🏻
its a lovely bike and a great review. you can buy a new super adventure for £15,000. that's a big difference
Hey there
Wish you could make detailed comparison between the new tiger 1200 rally explorer and the new BMW 1300 gsa.
Great review!
Another great review telling us all we need to know about the bike. But always worth a test ride before shelling out £18,000.🥴
Very informative. Thanks for the review
Yes, but all those things mean they can raise the price on the new model! It’s a brilliant business decision!
Have you tried one... Ok I'm biased as I own a 2023one, but for me the engine is one of the things I love the most... The character from the engine is amazing, I love it
Like me. I love my '23 Rally Explorer. 👌
It's a lemon, ofcourse those who bought it will say it's good to convince themselves. Do yourself a favor and get the 1300gs or the multistrada
@@MrKaataan I've owned plenty of bikes over 20+ years of riding to know whether my bike is a lemon or not... And it's not
I have the 2022 GT Pro and no vibration or stalling issues in 5k miles. Could do with the higher foot pegs though 😁
Question, why are we hearing about the stalling issue now that the new bike is out? Why no one in their “unbiased” reviews ever mentioned it?
Not everyone had that happen. It only happened to me once, at about 600 kms. After the first service last year and a firmware update, it never happened again. Must have been a mapping issue.
It happened multiple times to many people. But the fan girls don't wanna hear anything about it. The posts got quickly down voted in reddit.
@@Kevimoto well it happened to enough people that made Triumph redesign the engine 🤷🏼♂️
Good question - my GT Pro doesn’t vibe or at least vibe so much I even notice it………but the btych will on occasion stall, not funny in busy traffic or setting off on a tight turn up a hill for example

Perfect review….
I have no vibration on my 2023 rally pro

Looking to upgrade my 2016 800 xca. Ultra smooth gearbox, motor and handles very well. I would like a little more power but a viby bike after about 8 hrs. on the road is no fun. Besides they are only sending 1200s with the large tank to US. Rode a 1300 BMW. Ok bike but different. It would take some getting use to. I Guess I will just keep looking.
How is the TFT screen, see lots of complaints about how slow it is to come to life ?
I start the bike, put my helmet and gloves on and the screen is up and running long before I do my gloves up. It's literally a few seconds. And you don't have to wait for it either. Fire it up and go. In a few seconds, it's all there.
One of the shittiest tft screen on a bike ever.
Excellent review 👍
I bought a new 2023 GT PRO about 2 months ago. Put 500 hard twisty canyon miles on it in less a week, and then i traded her in due to 2 reasons: the first is cornering clearance - you said they raised the pegs. The 2nd reason was driveshaft lash/klunk, which I'd feel going from off-throttle to on-throttle at speed, which would upset suspension and chassis mid-corner, as id start to roll-on. Did they resolve this drivetrain lash???
I agree, I was touching the pegs down all the time on mine.
@@djidan1466 I took the feelers off the pegs
So what are you going to buy?
Boy that man can ride....not sure about the 3 testes Scot though.

Those who cruise at 80mph like the huge windshield, after a 3hr ride the wind fatigue gets you....
i owned the 2023 GT Explorer, but it stalled consistently, the dealership could only replicate the stall occasionally and therefore Triumph would not cover the problem under warranty. the following year they increased the weight of the crankshaft and flywheel in an effort to resolve this. Triumph never ever publicly addressed this problem or offered any recall for repair, if Triumph want to be a luxury company, then they need to start acting like one. save yourself a headache, go get a BMW.
such explanation while driving incredible. I thought that only woman are capable dealing with two issues the same time
The 1200 is always trying to catching up with the GS and it is always a bit short....

By the way the suspension thing applies to the 22/23 models after a software update (you do mention it but others may miss it)
They are just cash grabbing and moving more production in communist regimes. Oh that sweet cheap labour.
