    This is a true story.
When Rage Against The Machine broke up the instrumental members were a bit lost. The guitarist Tom Morello was talking to Rick Rubin (that's the musical equivalent of talking to Martin Scorsese) about what to do next. Rick suggested they talk to Chris since Soundgarden had recently broke up Tom agreed... The rest is Tom's words.
"Chris lived well out of LA, an hour and a half at the end of this cul-de-sac rising up on a hill. Chris's house was at the end at the top of the hill, almost like a Grimm's fairy tail.
We walked up to the house as the sun was setting. We knocked on the double door and it opened... Both sides... There was no one there.
We walked in and immediately at the top of this winding staircase at the entrance Chris slowly walked down. 6 foot 3, skinny and dark of countenance.
Rick looked at me and said "let's get the f$#k out of here". But I stayed.
We all made 3 records I'm very proud of"

Heres another little tid bit. Tim Commerford, the bassist for Rage Against The Machine once was in an interview talking about Chris’ lyrics for their Audioslave song called Like A Stone. Tim said he asked Chris “i’ll wait for you there (like a stone)?” “What is it that you’re waiting for.” Tim said Chris just looked at him and said “to die.” Tim was blown away by this. He didnt realize at first how deep Chris Cornells lyrics were.

When Chris died.....I left a piece of myself behind and took a part of him with me. Layne and Chris will never know how many people my age (55) they reached through their despair. I will always be eternally grateful....RIP Chris.... you are still greatly missed by this fan. God Loves Grunge!

Some talent is God given and divinely inspired. This performance reaches the soul. He did a cover of "Billie Jean" which was shockingly good. Who does that? He will always be missed.
Your reaction was lovely and sincere.

This song is even more poignant since Chris’s death. I was so lucky to see him in concert a little more than year before he died. That voice is more powerful in person. ❤️

Chris was one of my childhood heroes. Instead of friends I had tons of music and guitar, trying to learn to play and sing. Also reading about his problems was somehow... helpful, to know you can get through that, depression and all. So his death really hit me, since it was just a bit... too close to home.
Anyway, great reaction, I hope you'll discover more of his music.

I remember getting up to go to work when my wife told me he had passed. Such a tragedy. I'm glad I got to see him with Soundgarden and solo a couple of times. He had such a powerful voice but looked like he was doing it almost effortlessly. R.I.P. Chris.
