We must remember Chris was a drug addict and alcoholic who relapsed. Conventional therapy's don't normally work for us. So while I'm glad you focused on mental health which is so important. It's worth adding AA and NA are there as well for those suffering from the disease of addiction.

Chris was a drug addict.that relapsed 2. 12 Step programs overwhelmingly.have.the highest success rate for alcoholic's and drug addicts. Don't take my word for it though. Do some research, and you'll find what I'm saying to be truth.

Good point Zach. I find it interesting how society separates alcohol and drugs, when alcohol is a drug, just a legal one.
My wife loves this song and I was able to sing it for her as she lay in my arms and peacefully passed away from kidney disease. After a decade of pain, she is finally at peace , with no more pain. She was the most beautiful soul and she absolutely loved this version of the song. RIP my love Jan. 2, 2022

My wife of 29 years passed away a few months ago. This song brought all those emotions back up, I just bawled through the whole thing.

As a grown man, i am not embarrassed to say this performance brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. I was lucky enough to see Chris play with Soundgarden and on his solo tour for Higher Truth with my son. Seeing him in such a small venue only a few rows from the stage was unforgettable and I am so glad to have shared it with my son. Thank you Chris!

Since I want to keep the suggestion separate, me again. Losing Chris Cornell was just an absolute body blow to music. Having a huge back catalog to go back and listen to him is amazing, but we’ll never hear any new ideas, no more live performances, a talent gone too soon. It’s crushing.

I was more mad than sad at Chris' suicide. It's not logical, but emotions rarely are. It was such a waste of talent, not to mention all the people he left behind, hurt and sad and wondering why. I'd played a few Soundgarden songs in various local bands or just in jam sessions, but I don't anymore since Chris killed himself. It doesn't feel right.
I cried when I heard Dimebag Darrell was murdered. I'd seen Pantera twice, once in 1999 opening for Sabbath and once in 2001, and he was so much fun to watch, so great to listen to live. He clearly loved playing for the fans; his joy was infectious. His death hit me like a ton of bricks.

I feel this way with pretty much every acoustic song Chris has done. Just such an amazing talent. He's the one artist I wish I could bring back more than anything.
I'm the same way and feel this 💯. Chris will always be my favorite vocalist and his death impacted me extremely hard. When Chester took his life, my heart was torn! 2 of the most talented vocalists that got me through decades of pain and emotion and still does to this very day. 2 people that can't be replaced.
The part where he somberly sings about how all the flowers she planted died when she went away always gets me, but for some reason, most reactors don't even mention it.

Will never forgot Eddie Vedder's solo-concert right after Chris died. He lost his great friend and still played amazingly. Everyone could feel his pain.
when Eddie performed "Black" with just him and a guitar and he says "come back" a few times in the end...the most heartbreaking thing I have ever seen. the amount of pain in that man's voice and eyes was just..wow.
I saw Eddie at the Hammersmith in London when he opened up about Chris's death... tbh, cried like a baby. I sat there sobbing. Eddie was heartbroken, and so were we. Even typing this makes me cry.... that's how hard it hits hey. :(

I didn't know this was a Prince cover. I always associate this song with Sinead O'Connor; Her voice was so beautiful on that track. She sang it for her mother who had passed away a few years before. She started crying while filming the "official music video" and told them to leave it in. The greatest songs are those anyone can connect with.

Some of the songs Chris did are so haunting now that he's gone. Lyrics like "no one sings like you anymore", "And he hurt so bad like a soul breakin', but he never said nothing to me", "the sky was your playground, but the cold ground was your bed", and really this whole song. Chris was a force of nature. And you're so right about mental health. If you're in those dark times, just don't give up. Those dark times show us who we are. I still can't listen to this without tearing, even with Elizabeth pausing. The emotion is so full, so emergent. It's been years now, but... I STILL can't get over the fact that he is gone.
Cornell was one of the very few vocalists where every time he sang it was pure emotion. Nothing ever felt forced, or even like he's making an effort to sing. It's just like his vocals were a direct conduit to his soul. Expression in it's most primal form.
Prince deserves to be on the channel himself, tbf. Little dude was insanely gifted, as a musician, singer, performer, and composer. Not many people can just give away number 1 hits like Christmas stocking stuffers...

Hold it close to your heart and value it but don't try to diminish another's work, effort or experience or love of through that. It's unbecoming. And most of all, it's untrue. When it comes to art, all is subjective. I personally also love SoC and CC's more than Prince's but would never say that were 'better'. He wrote it. He felt it. he conjured it so others could relate and re-interpretate. Recognize that, also, please. 'Better than' is only a tragedy, it's not proving or validating anything.
I would love to see him on these channels, but I think that the copyright on all of his music and videos is strict so the videos all get blocked

I lost my fiance 3 years ago to depression, and it's still a gut punch every morning. This song hits a little different every time I hear it.
Thank you, David. Kirk, my husband, is a 2x suicide survivor. Mental health is so important, and he's living proof that one can fight their way out of the pits of depression, even if he still feels their claws trying to pull him back on a daily basis.

Like KK's Priest's "Sermons of the Sinner", one of the best traditional heavy metal albums I've heard in quite a while. Would love to see E react to something like "Return of the Sentinel" or "Hellfire Thunderbolt." She's a Halford fan, it's time for Ripper to get some love!

The loss of Chris and then Chester shortly after was devastating to many of us, especially those of us who use music as our therapy more than anything else. I have seen so many of my musical idols come and go, and it can get extremely difficult and it can make it seem like the dark times never end, but they do, you just have to keep pushing forward a little at a time.

"you never really knew my mind" is another great cover by Chris. Came out close to his passing and really hits home
This version brings tears to my eyes every time! Not only do I wish I could sing like this very talented man, but the arrangement with the cello, the guitar, almost a Spanish style , the cadence , all of it makes this such a beautiful version of this song!! I love hearing him belt out, even mini belts like 14:47 ! It gives me chills! When I get into my somber modes I listen to this and Linda Perry's "It F**king Hurts" (her version at "Guitar Center"). I wish you would listen to her if you haven't! She started as the singer for 4 Non Blondes,, and as soon as I heard her voice,, I knew she was going to be a success in the music field! Her song Letter to God, that she performed on the the TV show ''The Talk" with Sharon Ozbourne, was a really emotional performance that I also wish you would get a chance to see as well!! But, she does many songs that I believe doesn't touch the range she is able to reach, very low key I believe for a woman that has the gift to grab someone with her raspy, blues style belt when she wants!! And, I have to take a minute to really applaud your mention and reach out for those in need of mental help! I am a retired cop who was on a crisis intervention unit! The amount of people who really can't handle stress, depression, and anxiety, along with negative traumatic instances in their life, is an unbelievable number! It has even taken a toll on myself many many times being there with them in my attempt to be a band-aid until I tried to get them to the help they needed! And I like to thank you for that moment of caring and help you offered in this video!!

I love this song. No matter who sings it, it really has a part in my heart, my soul. Prince really wrote this song, and he did an AMAZING JOB writing it. Thank you to Prince for blessing us all with wonderful creation. And thank you to Chris for doing a wonderful job in singing this. I miss you both to Prince and Chris.
Chris's death was a massive loss for the world. His performances were drenched in emotion, as is evidenced by this performance. He was definitely one of the best vocalists of a generation. I'm grateful I was able to see him live when Soundgarden was touring behind the "Superunknown" album.
You've hit the nail on the head. Chris was SO emotive in his vocal style. Soundgarden was a cathartic release that got me through some tough times, and his passing still stings.

Please do Say Hello 2 Heaven by Temple of the Dog. Easily one of Chris’s best vocal performances. I can’t hear that song without getting emotional. Especially now that he’s gone.
Beyond the Wheel...Sound Soundgarden. Shows his 4 octave range...I was 6 feet way from him when he sang this live in St. Louis in 2012...crowd was going nuts, but I was frozen like the old RCA dog because I've never been that close to someone who could do that with his voice and it seem so effortless. Truly amazing
I had this same reaction when I saw Audioslave do an acoustic show just after there second Album came out. It was so touching. The only other time I felt something like that was when I saw STP in like 2000
I was about 8 years old when I first heard Chris and Soundgarden. 1992 I belive it was. I've been a huge pearl jam and soundgarden fan for as long as I can remember. Chris and Soundgarden were a huge parts of my growing up. I didn't know how much I would miss him till he was gone. I saw soundgarden 2 weeks before his death. A master of a movement and era that we might never see again happen again. Safe to say we all Miss him. Loud Love and RIP Chris and Chester.

I first fell in love with Chris Cornell’s voice in 1993, when I was a young teen in middle school. Soundgarden is still one of my favorite bands, and I grieved hard when we lost him. Such a loss .. every time I hear this song, I tear up. Not only at how utterly beautiful it is, but also in feeling that grief that we’ll never hear another quite like him again. Thank goodness we still have so many wonderful songs he left us with to ease his absence from the world. ❤
As much as I love Chris Cornells version and voice I'll never forget where I was when I saw Sinead O'Connors version for the first time. I was about 12 and watching it on Top of the Pops, an iconic UK music show. It's very powerful. I hope you look at it sometime.
As Chris aged his voice just got better and better. Listened to him since he started and was very saddened by his demise.

No, it's a Prince song, that Sinéad covered. For once, the cover became a LOT more popular than the original he did with The Family.
Excellent analysis and very respectful way of tying BetterHelp into the conversation. I was fortunate to see him in concert 4 times - once with Soundgarden in 2011, twice on his solo acoustic tours, and on the Temple of the Dog 25th anniversary tour 6 months before his death. The power and the pain in his voice is what has drawn so many to his music for years.
Please consider doing more reactions with his singing in the future! My top recommendations would be Soundgarden - “Outshined,” Temple of the Dog - “Call Me a Dog,” or his song “When I’m Down.”

I drive a lot every day and have a lifetime membership to SiriusXM. I was listening to this entire performance when it first aired on Lithium. When this song played, I had to pull to the side of the road!!! Once it was finally loaded on RUclips, my daughter helped me pull it off RUclips and convert to an MP3 so I could have it on my iPod. My roommate was a big Chris Cornell fan and was really affected by his loss. I wrote him a poem as an elegy to Chris. I was in treatment and shared it with my group while we talked about mental health. Afterwards someone suggested we play this song and I heard this for the first time. It was moving.
