I love watching these it almost feels like im watching from a new perspective and seeing it how someone else would, lets me enjoy it again after i rehearsed it to death lol! awesome :) thanks
Which is why we are all addicted to watching the reaction videos of your music @Ren! It brings them alive in new ways. I love how supportive you are of RUclips channels! And I’m so happy to see more and more people exposed to your art!! You deserve every success. I hope you are getting better and stronger everyday! We wish you all the best 🥰 Hope to see you when you are able to tour!
I always love seeing you show up on reactions. The downside of commenting on a huge channel like Elizabeth's is that your comment may go unnoticed (I'm only the 3rd like after 3 hours). Hopefully more notice so that it comes to Elizabeth's attention. I think getting an interview with Elizabeth may be the next best thing to Oprah. 😉 I'm sure she would love to do it since she regularly does interviews. (edit: Elizabeth is the Charismatic Voice, not the Elizabeth above my comment)
So happy to see you here, enjoying Elizabeth's reaction @Ren. You are both brilliant and bring smiles to many like myself. Thank you!!! Wishing you continued success in your music and on your journey to full health and wellbeing ❤
I am honered to be one of the first of the generations now to hear him . I believe his influence on music and proformance art will be felt for many generations to come .
57 years old, and the first time I've been excited by a new artist in so many years. Ren's words paint such vivid pictures. Not gently though. There's no escape from the imagery for all the while he describes it.
I had got to the point where it was all same old same old, by the great and dead or dying.from my youth. Then there is Ren. and as whole new art form opens up before us.
Of course! I think you’re understating the frequency of Ren’s level of genius & musical/creative giftedness, Kismet. Ren is a rarity. I feel grateful to be alive during this prolific time in music.😊With Ren & other current vocal/instrumental prodigies, I DO feel blessed. 5/15/23
To me one of the points of the story is that abuse, violence, alcoholism and so on always have a huge impact on the next generation, and very often history repeats itself. So Jenny coped with life like her mother and grandmother did (stay silent), while Screech acted the same as his dad and granddad (abusive, violent). So I don't know if I agree with you that they both really 'chose' to behave the way they did.
Was screech not able to swing by for the same reason Patrick couldn't answer the door at #54? I might be reaching here but the fact I'm looking for hidden meanings here is testament to the artistry of songwriting.
@@gboigbhoy6476 oh wow, never thought of that, could very well be indeed. It's amazing, everytime you watch/listen you can discover something new in this masterpiece.
Ren is a bard in the classical sense. He tells a story that's supported by music and he himself provides the theatrics. It all comes together to become something golden and utterly unique. Celebrate this man.
This is the kind of art that deserves awards. Grammys for the music, Oscars for the acting, Tonys' for the combination and an Emmy because this is a mini series.
I’ve said the same. I felt Ren Hi Ren was a masterful musical 1 Act play. Here we have another masterpiece of profound social relevance in 3 acts. This gifted young artist is a musical & creative genius. 5/15/23
@@slayerrocks2 innit, though? and I am one of those who loves the best riffs, often the heavy ones. this, while not actual WORDS, is a way to convey not just sadness, but also almost a regret at having to "report" the story. like how he hesitates, does a little shoulder shrug, and then carries on like a trooper. it's something like what I feel like at the beginning of so many of my short stories. they are not for the thin-skinned or faint of heart--not saying they're earth-shattering stories or anything-for MOST, but they definitely require some THICK SKIN, y'know?
The part in Jenny"s tale where Ren describes Screech's actions leading to Jenny's demise has a cadence of a heartbeat until Jenny turns to "butter in a breath", then it stops. Ren absolutely knows how to manipulate emotions and he uses the whole toolbox.
Hi Elizabeth, I am a huge Ren fan. My daughter went to school with him and I lived in the village he grew up in hence I am so proud of him and all he’s achieved given his illness. I just wanted you to know you are my favourite reactor. As a professional Opera singer with the most exquisite voice who better to critique Ren’s and indeed anyone’s performance. I truly believe he is a phenomena, a prodigy perhaps but certainly unique. If you listen to the range of different areas he excels in it’s extraordinary. Keep up your amazing work reacting please.
I appreciate your reaction. You are very articulate in how you express how you feel. Thank you for sharing with the rest of us. I'm a big fan of his abilities across several fields. He processes the spectrum of abilities needed to COMPLETELY express a song/ story in a way that the listener fully feels an experience. It gives a nod to the story telling lines of his genes. A nod to you as well. Black blood thru out. ❤
I have family in Dwyran. I have spent soooo much time there, I love the place! We used to stay at Y Felin. Arthur and Julie don’t have it as a B&B anymore, but we are still friends, we watched each others kids grow up. Much love ❤
As I'm sure you'll get a ton of request for.... Ren and Chinchilla are amazing, and Chinchilla herself is absolutely amazing. Her live performance of Fingers for Hunger TV is something I can't wait to watch you react to. I've become totally obsessed with Ren and Chinchilla... and I think we be on the cusp of both of them getting really popular very, very soon.
What impresses me most is how quickly Ren can switch between characters, unique vocal stylings, and guitar motifs that paint such a vibrant picture. He is such a storyteller. Bardcore at its finest! And you are right, the story itself is powerful. This was a Greek and/or Shakespearean Tragedy. Ren was inspired to write the Tale of Jenny and Screech after seeing an article buried on page 6 or 7 of a 14 year old boy who killed a prostitute with a knife. The police officer was shaken and remarked “it’s such a shame.” But by adding the layer and backstory from Violet’s Tale that Ren released 3 years later, it adds so much more. But the generational trauma and cycles of violence happen every day 😿 Your excitement with the intro to Screech’s Tale was fantastic! I love that he incorporates classical guitar into his performance. And my favorite is Violet’s Tale, especially using the tall stairwell for acoustical depth. It’s a one-man 3-act play! And his buddy Samuel Perry-Falvey who filmed it is fantastic! You should also check out “Chalk Outlines” and “How To Be Me,” both featuring Chinchilla. They were also filmed live and will give you goosebumps!
I realllly want you to hear Ren's "Chalk Outlines" collaboration with Chinchilla! From the vocals to the acoustics to the harmonies, everything is just perfect.
A Bard. A Poet. A Wandering Minstrel. A Thespian. Ren is all that and more. The Medieval sounds & gestures are such absorbing features of his work. My big question is, how did Sam manage to glide so fluently, backwards up those stairs, while filming so steadily? Brilliant.
Already seen the requests so I’ll keep this wishlist short: Ren and Chinchilla live duets ”How to be me” and ”Chalked outlines” will give you as a vocal coach a lot more to comment. Also please, and I REALLY think you’ll love this one: ”Fingers” live performance by Chinchilla. I really can’t see a better tune for you to react to and it would be awesome!!❤
They’re both beautiful vocally & definitely focus on mental health. I prefer How to be Me (live) just because of the backstory & pure emotion that Chinchilla is able to almost physically pull from Ren. I heard someone call it his wailing wall & it stuck with me. 💜
I kind of feel that Ren doesn't really process different types of music as different styles, but more variations in his mode of expression. It's less like he "mixes styles" and more that he tells a story using the breadth of the musical palette as his language. He fits the styles together so well because he is usually the style that part of the story speaks in. This of course only comes from a masterful knowledge of music. So much of his music feels so freeflowing and yet you know every element is intentional.
The "Go FundMe" and "give me all your money" coincidence was hilarious!! Also, I LOVE how much you go into his deliberate "imperfections" as an expression of heightened emotion. It's not smooth and it's not MEANT to be. We often think of them as mistakes because people want the smooth feel, but Ren shows his genius here by "breaking" those rules deliberately. GREAT analysis!
The way the 'cycle' motif and repeating patterns are worked into this trilogy, all to support the idea that abuse and violence is a cycle... It's unparalleled genius. First there is the epanaleptic structures, where the starts and end are _mirrored_ : Jenny's part: "It was a quiet dark night in the empty street..." + "Can you blame"/"Such a shame" (...) Screech's part: "Our story it _starts_ right at the _end_ " + "Our story it _ends_ right at the _start_ " Violet's part: "London city far from pretty..." + the rewinding sound effect at the guitar The whole: starting with Jenny and Screech's death and ending with their birth (...) Then there are tons of reference to the lexical field of cycles and repeating patterns: Jenny: "She walked it about a 1000 times before" / she's compared to a clock / "a symphony of the night that _echoes_ crime on London streets" Screech: "Can I _swing_ ..." he says to his girlfriend Violet: "Every night he tucked her tight..." / "Packing shelves at Tesco, stacking jars like pickled bricks" so repetitive work, and repetition builds a prison / "History repeats itself" I'm sure I'm missing a ton. And I'm not knowledgeable enough in music, rapping, and directing structures but I'm sure these patterns are present there as well. I pray all the Jenny's get to escape these cycles, all the James's manage to stop knocking, and Violets manage to not stay silent... *_Ren, your genius is staggering_* .
So glad to hear an appreciation for the stairwell falsetto moment in Violet’s Tale. So many people just pass by this and don’t acknowledge the beauty here. It is my absolute favourite moment.
This collaboration of stories and song should win every award possible. I have never seen anything remotely close to what Ren is doing. He is changing music in an amazing way, he is bringing back the emotion and raw talent that gets diluted by big money and has been lying dormant for as long as I can remember. Ren you are a blessing to music and to the people who believe in your vision of art. I have heard this story at least 20 times and still want to show it to anyone who gets into my car. Not to mention its on all my playlist at home. Amazing
One of the things that you mightn't have picked up on in Violet's Tale is his use of the guitar to show the passage of time. When he's going back to describe the circumstances that led to the current situation he plays a phrase backwards, then when he's finished explaining the background he brings us back to the present by playing the phrase forwards.
It's not just "not over-produced" it's barely been touched if at all. This performance is another one of Ren's one-take / live performance videos. Everything you hear is EXACTLY how it sounded if you were there in person
Did you notice that Violet died in 2005, Screech was 14 when he died, and that the song was released in 2019, 14 years after 2005. Also, why was walking the streets of London late at night in high heels, when she was only 14? The implication is that she was turning tricks to survive. The cycle continues.
Mental awareness month and a vocal coach reaction? You gotta do "Chalk Outlines" live with Chinchila then! It's an hauntingly beautiful song about mental health and Ren really sings and showcases his voice along with Chinchila!
Yep. Thankfully none of the antidepressants I was ever on made me feel like a floating chalk outline, but some days when I have a particularly bad day I do feel like that, I think it's a minor form of disassociation to try to escape the pain I feel. It's so shitty, because usually people are sad for a reason, and so you can do something about it, try to fix it, but what do you do when you feel like utter crap, every breath feels like inhaling fire, your heart physically hurts as if a ghost hand is crushing it, you can't stop crying, and yet there is nothing wrong? There is no reason for you to feel that way? Just a chemical imbalance in your brain. It's horrible to feel so helpless. So I just cry and cry cause it does feel a bit better to get it all out, but the main thing is just to survive the day until I manage to fall asleep, because almost never I have days like that twice in a row, thankfully. I do sit in bed all day though, because it's where I feel safe, so the first line really hits me deep, "I'm still here in this bed that I crawled in, hope that I'm someone else in the morning". (Sorry for talking so much about myself and my issues, I was trying to say why I resonate with the song but I feel like I just turned the whole thing into me me me me me. Sorry.)
That occasional breaking in his voice is from his own emotion he is a very empathetic soul! I have literally seen him cry and have to stop then start. Singing again. And I know also that he has a great sense of humor and could be a total blast to hang out with😊🌿💔
OMG I'm so happy you chose this, I love this SO much, it's up there with "Hi Ren", and Chalk Outlines and How To Be Me, all so moving, but this trilogy really REALLY emphasises his bard side, literally singing in the street, switching genres, and getting into character, and the whole story is almost better than anything Shakespeare ever wrote. This man is a not just a genius, but a gift to this world!
@@supertuscans9512 I base that off of the fact that Shakespeare's plays are rather long, as plays are, while these are very short, and yet he makes me feel sorry even for Screech, the villain, and it's not just theatre but sung as well. And I said "almost better". I love Shakespeare, but Ren is the contemporary version, and therefore maybe more relatable. He's for sure a master wordsmith. "A lady shaped stalactite" like omg, that is such a beautiful description, he paints with words. In any case, mine wasn't a claim, but an opinion. Each has their own. You clearly think differently and I respect that, so please respect mine instead of calling it "absurd". Thank you.
I think a big reason your channel is so popular in addition to your knowledge is your glee when discovering something that you think is cool. It's very infectious & heartwarming like a kid on Christmas morning. And you do it several times in this video. Props to you!
Authenticity. Forges connection, she isnt ashamed of her vulnerability when shoeing passion, we can share in her glee because she lays out a ley line to connect to the music through her. I totally agree with you. I just stumbled onto her hi ren video and i love it alrd
@@tony1kenobi929 I loved Justin's interview with both Ren and Elizabeth. Both were fascinating and informative. Justin is an excellent interviewer. I've been watching JHRA for quite a while now.
You should try to do a "Tea Time with Ren". Justin Hawkins recently did a long form podcast with him and it was awesome. Ren was an open book and it was fascinating.
Ren is a master of live performance. My only regret is that it took me until 'Hi ren' to discover him. I'm sure I'm not alone in this, and now we're all working overtime to catch up on everything he does. Just brilliant!
Oh my goodness! The end of Viloets story tied Jenny and Screech. Im blown away and so sad. I became so invested in the stor this is my third song of his yesterday. I discovered him by clicking on a react video. It's let me down the rabbit hole to discover more. Wow wow wow!
This is a sobering tale of the unconscious cycle of abuse and violence. In the east they call it the wheel of samsara, endlessly playing out the same karmic scenarios until someone has the guts to end the flow of the wheel for good. In the story Jenny blindly inherits the silence and freeze of her mother and Screech the psychopathic anger of his father. Their inherited traits both result in their demise. I suppose one of the ways to end the cycle is awareness, and this is what Ren is doing. Bringing the unconscious into consciousness. It's not pretty, but it is definitely real. It's almost Shakespearian. What a talent this man is....
And one theory about Jenny, the Rosie on her cheeks - heavy makeup, walking these streets - working girl? Heavy makeup so possibly prostitution at an early age. Also Screech’s mate Patrick is not home, and Screech’s girl is ‘busy’ - busy with Patrick cheating on Screech as he is volatile and violent so she is going to gravitate to someone caring.
I think it's important (and very hard) for people to recognize and break this cycle. I grew up with young parents who made a lot of mistakes and a dad who had anger issues. I decided early in my life I didn't want to be like that and, thankfully, can say I'm not. My brother internalized their problems and while he can recognize them now, he's going through hell because of them and breaking the cycle in some ways has broken him (he's getting better). As corny as it is, be the change you want to see.
@@martinrobinson936 I don't know for sure, and obviously not trying to speak for anyone else, but I have been surprised to see this theory floating round because I did not perceive the character of Jenny in that way at all. To me the descriptions of Jenny just seemed like a regular teenager who's been hanging out with friends or round one of her friends houses after school or something, but now it's getting on and she needs to go home. Perhaps I am just relating it to my own experiences of adolesence in England, albeit many years before Jenny would have been in secondary school - I'd have been at school a few years before Violet! But for the girls it was common to wear heeled shoes. Not like ridiculous, probably max 3 inch heel, and the fashion of the time was the chunkier style heels. Trainers were not allowed, so most of the girls basically wore black leather women's office workwear type sensible shoes, but heeled. Also adding to my theory, at age 14, in the English school system, depending when in the year the birthday falls, would put that student at year 9 or year 10 (age 13-14, and 14-15 respectively), so in the 3rd or 4th year of secondary school. And even accounting for school holidays etc, for the average teenager who walks to/from school would have walked that route around a thousand times or more. Also, a "cold dark night" in London, if it was winter it can be dark before 4pm, so even when it's not super late, it feels late because it's already been dark and cold so long! And when people are out in the cold they'll often have 'rosy cheeks'. So in my opinion, and it is only my opinion, it makes more sense to me that she's just a teenager, a schholgirl. as for the idea of Screeches girlfriend cheating on him and that being why she was busy, I simply interpreted that as being she was busy because she's probably also a teensger living at her parents house who likely wouldn't be impressed for him to randomly go round, especially if it was getting late. And Patrick must surely be older to have his own place, presumably? Idk, just my thoughts!
Most of Ren's Videos/songs are preformed live. He is a true Bard. you can even hear how he using the location he is in to tell the story. the open air in alley while screech is on the run, the hallways and stairwells in Violets tale to sound like a hospital. inside the apartment when the story calls for it. Pure Genius and all in one take
I noticed american reactors don't ever reference the bard, maybe it's just part of our European history? The first thing I thought too when I heard this was: bard!
Great analyse 'Chalk outlines' and 'How to be me' both with Chinchilla should be put on your list, but as everyone has been saying the Ren rabbit hole with his friends is pretty big and they are all talented and now is their time to shine and their music comes in all genres .....
It’s a kind of mini-opera; an ode to all the Jenny’s, Screech’s and Violets in the world, who ‘never stood a chance’, because ‘the devil came to dance’ in their lives. It stems from pure compassion and love, as I see it.
This guy just does me every time, it’s such an uncomfortable story, but such a hypnotic delivery that you can’t stop listening. Lyrically he’s a genius, the use of the guitar, his voice and it’s insane variety and most of all the use of the surroundings … he and his videographer are both jaw dropping!
Our beloved Brighton Bard strikes once more. The modern day minstrel with a mind full of tales is finally getting the recognition he deserves 🖤 I am so chuffed for him that he is getting so much love and respect from a ton of people. He is definitely on of a kind 🖤🐇🕳
I hadn't watched this one yet. I normally don't watch reactors reacting to anything until I've watched it first. But your video came up on autoplay and I couldn't take my eyes away. Oh Ren, how you make me ugly cry! I could never be a reactor! Thank you for your breakdown of this incredible masterpiece🌟
As an independent artist Ren needs support to get his music to a wider audience. Please continue to do more Ren reactions. You've only scratched the surface of this mans talent.
Every time i hear that wail at the beginning of Screech's Tale, i always think of a vulnerable cry. Like a baby going waaaaaah! Im glad that you brought it up!
This will be great, but as The Charismatic Voice, you have yet to REALLY hear REN’s voice, so please check out at least one of the following videos: How to be Me(Live) and Chalk Outlines(Live) both with Chinchilla, Earned It/Man’s World/Falling and Walking on the Moon/No Diggity both with Sam Tompkins and I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion and Wade in the Water/Trouble so Hard both from the band he was in called The Big Push.
I love your channel. Easily one of my top reaction channels. Such quality commentary. I feel almost bad saying this because it takes away from your amazing work, but your hair is immaculately beautiful. Its crazy.
Same happened to me, I first heard Hi Ren thanks to her, and I became obsessed with him, I kept watching reactors to see their jaws drop, and then I explored all of his music, and I am in awe at his level of lyrics writing, music writing, musical ability, producing and directing his own videos, all with a low budget and with no label... and he's still so humble to this day. I am so happy I found him out, it really opened the doors to a whole new world. This man is 3 years younger than me, but his wisdom is that of a 1000 year old man.
I'm only 3 minutes into this video, but as a former band geek and trumpeter myself, you picking up on the muted trumpet sound is just *chef's kiss*. I adore how detail oriented you are. Easily one of the most qualified reactors/reviewers on RUclips. And a 57 minute video?!? I'm so here for it! 😄🙌
What an attentive reaction. You give the piece what feels like an affirmation of how much it's taken to create this work and that it's a special thing.
Ren speaks about all the things that people usually don't mention, but should be talked about, and he doesn't go light. I know that he was inspired by reading that a 14 year old boy killed a woman over an attempted robbery, and that really hit him hard.
I love how you "geek out" to his nuances. Your genuineness is appreciated and as a Fan of both you and Ren separately, this video fills my heart as I've been going through tough times lately and his songs, Diazapam, Chalk outlines and Its Alright have been on repeat. Its a joy to see your joy, enjoying an artist who has brought me so much joy in his different styles, energy, and emotions.
I loved your reaction to this. I hope you will do Chalk Outlines next. Please choose the live version. It's amother nice example of using the sound of the space in which they perform. The emotion in the interaction bewteen Ren and Chinchilla will give you chills.
Just discovered Ren a few months ago, and holy crap! This might be the best artist of this generation, people! He has everything! I enjoy the journey with his music, and also with people reacting to it. Haven't had this much excitement in years!
So glad you did this request. :) ❤ Chalk Outlines would be an excellent next choice as as is usual for Ren… it’s very different from other things you’ve seen him do. It’s a duet with Chinchilla who has an exceptional voice. I’d also recommend reacting to her performing her song Fingers live. There’s a specific run that I’d love you to analyse!
Haha i love how you are geeking out. It feels incredible to me what he does, but someone going this hard who understands alot of what he's doing is just awesome to watch!
I feel like I just watched a person take apart an entire car, piece by piece, and with each part the person explains the elegance and design ingenuity of the part. So fun! Thank you for giving this song the time and attention it deserves!
This is far from my cuppa tea... but damn he's amazing on every level, same goes for his film crew. Once I start watching/listening I can't stop. It's like watching a really heavy, thought provoking film that grips you from start to finish and it's Ren amazing story telling creating all the images like reading a book... Idk...🤯 💔❤️🩹
Ooof, was my first time hearing this and it hits hard. Not something you can just listen to and clearly a true piece of art with how much emotion is evoked. The musicianship really is captivating.
Elizabeth eyelid-bat-count: 17,538,562… and I’m only up to ‘come on then you f***ing c***s!’ 😂 So, so happy to see your brilliant reaction to this epic. Personally, my top requests for more Ren would be ‘How to be Me’, ‘Dominoes’, and ‘Humble’. Love your work!
I'm not going to lie, this is my introduction to your channel, having binged Ren videos all day i wasn't sure i could go for 57 minutes for one video, but I'm glad i did, hearing you break down just how brilliant what he's doing is, but with a professional insight, is fascinating, also some validation for how I've felt listening to this myself.
Fantastic analysis as always Elizabeth. Thank you. Ren is such a versatile and talented guy it is so good to see that he is getting the recognition he deserves. He not only performs but directs all the videos, having a vision from the outset of what he wants each to look like. Needless to say he has a very talented videographer in Sam Perry-Falvey. They make a great team.
After probably 100 viewings/listenings, I STILL get chills during the stairwell falsetto moment every time! Brilliance incarnate; start to finish, across the entire trilogy, I am awed by the beauty and horrifying tragedy that encompasses these Tales. 😳😯😢❤️❤️❤️
Your reactions always bring so much to the song. I've listened to these tales countless times, but through your analysis so much more is revealed. You and Knox Hill are two of the most educated and insightful reactors out there. Thanks!
Serious question for you Elizabeth, have you ever seen/heard someone so much all around talented? Songwriter, Singer, Musician, Producer, Performer etc. Ren is a complete package with such amazing talents. We can only hope and pray for his health and a bright future for him where we get to benefit from his work for many years to come.
Thank you for this reaction. At first I thought you were getting bogged down with detail, but by the end it was obvious that you really got it. Great reaction! And great performance and piece of art by Ren and team. Thanks again.
It's such a privilege to watch such a genius become so popular so quickly. As an artist, Ren deserves all of the recognition in the world. He is an anomaly, a master of his craft. The way he uses singing, rapping, talking, and his guitar to tell the story is like nothing else. Also, yes, this was done live. You are correct in hearing his lapel mic knock against the guitar.
Loved every minute of your take on this fantastic trilogy. Also big respect to you for mentioning his gofundme to further support Ren, you're a class act.
A story that can't be told more eloquently than Ren just did. We have to all find a way to break the cycle. Thank you for lending your voice to this Elizabeth!
Glad you enjoy this so much (judging from the trailer :) Have you Chinchilla - Fingers on your list yet? The live performance on Hunger TV is vocally mind blowing. And I think the main reason why Chris Liepe interviewed her.
40:00 is not only haunting and beautiful. It took me 6 watches to pick up on, and then I noticed his facial expressions here and it clicked. This is part of the flash forward, he is depicting a crying newborn 👶🍼 in the hospital !!!!!! Just check how he is looking around at the new world he just entered, with the light howl… how does he do this ?
That is a really good pick up. I always thought he was embodying a scared Violet in the hospital "fighting to stay alive." But I really like the baby idea. Ren's music and videos have many bits that could be interpreted more than one way.
WAIT! WHAT! No way … I cannot believe I never caught that …. The reason I happily read comments is in hopes of finding little gems like this one …. I love it … thanks ❤
Ren tells the stories and the filming of the stories are all done so well i found myself looking for the bodies laying on the ground. The saddest thing about this is the fact each of these things are happening in every country at this very moment and the cycle continues
Thank you guys, @thecharismaticvoice and Elizabeth, for a great reaction. Hopefully, @RenMakesMusic sees this and can see this great reaction. Let's keep supporting #Ren and reausing mental health awareness. Really enjoyed you take on the "The Tales" Elizabeth and love learning something from each of your videos. I hope you are doing well and I want to send some positive energy to you after such a heavy yet important song. Lots of love Gerald Bee 🐝
I have really been hoping that you would do this one. I can't wait to see it! I want to thank you for introducing me to Hi Ren. Since seeing it on your channel, Ren has quickly become one of my favorite artists.
Such a dark song, so beautifully written and performed. Thank you for choosing it. Violet’s tale especially is so moving and beautiful whilst dealing with a subject that is so emotionally repulsive. Jenny was like her mother, Screech like his father.. I noticed “the devil comes to dance” refrain this time around
This is the best reaction I've seen - to this song, or even go so far as to say ANY song...wow. Thank you. Your appreciation of the artistry, mastery, creativity and subtlety, plus musicality and theatric mastery and as well as the seriousness of the topic and need for social change, spanned the range of emotions and was very satisfying to watch and see all that you appreciated about it. Thank YOU for not holding back in your reaction. Beautiful.
I disagree with the replies here, the studio version is just better. Chalk outlines is great live but how to be me was a touch disappointing. The modifications they made, especially chinchilla's, just don't really fit imo.
Absolutely. Especially seeing Ren's emotions, like he really looks lost when he sings "I forgot how to be me" and he looks so angry and desperate at "Where is my God where are you?" I must have watched that video 50 times (I've also just heard it, but it's so much more impactful with the visual, Chinchilla looking at him while he sings like she's trying to understand, and the fact they're on the same bridge where Brian allegedly jumped from), and I still feel my stomach drop and a grip on my heart. It's so moving.
What gets me about Ren is that unlike most artists he is not at all afraid to have his voice be heard with almost no accompaniment of other instruments save his acoustic. Where rap vocalists are covered and protected by the bass and the beat and the fancy production of the audio, but Ren is almost stark alone. It's like admiring a single tree in a field versus a tree in a forest. He is not bashful in the slightest and I think that sort of subconsciously boosts the interest and connection of his audience.
@RenMakesMusic did you warn the neighbourhood you filmed this in?
is that building for violets tale the same apartments used for the filming animal flow?
Does anyone else feel blessed to have discovered Ren and to hear his art? I truly feel that he is a once in a generation artist.
@@DazzleMonroe same. I'm 49 and he's the first artist I've been excited about in over 10 years. I can't get enough of his music.
Of course! I think you’re understating the frequency of Ren’s level of genius & musical/creative giftedness, Kismet. Ren is a rarity. I feel grateful to be alive during this prolific time in music.😊With Ren & other current vocal/instrumental prodigies, I DO feel blessed. 5/15/23
Jenny chose silence, Screech chose violence...
Just like their parents did
Woah man, that's wild to me. I've listened to the song dozens of times and didn't draw that conclusion. Makes me love this even more.
You are a poet but its Jenny and Screetch's parents and grandparents .It really makes you think .
A modern-day bard. Best description for this storytelling genius.
This is the kind of art that deserves awards. Grammys for the music, Oscars for the acting, Tonys' for the combination and an Emmy because this is a mini series.
You nailed it man. Absolutely agree with your sentiments.
At a minimum it deserves for Elizabeth to NOT censor it.
@@markupton1417 Yeah. That was a bit unfortunate. All part of the protocols to preserve her channel I guess.
I’ve said the same. I felt Ren Hi Ren was a masterful musical 1 Act play. Here we have another masterpiece of profound social relevance in 3 acts. This gifted young artist is a musical & creative genius. 5/15/23

"She never stood a chance" is by far my favourite moment in all of his songs. So chilling in that stairwell, so beautifully sung.
"I go by many names also" and the following lines from Hi Ren is that moment for me.
Nick nack paddy whack
close for me, but it's actually his early vocalization in the beginning of Violet.
@ignoblesavage5559 I found myself tearing up during that vocalisation, once I'd been through Violet's Tale a few times.
It's a beautiful sadness.

But the generational trauma and cycles of violence happen every day 😿
Your excitement with the intro to Screech’s Tale was fantastic!
Yes, this one is amazing!
Yes I would a reaction from it too
I agree, and it is another great song for mental health awareness!
And ‘how to be me’
+1
A Bard.
Chalk Outlines for sure!
I second these suggestions. Excellent content to react to.
They’re both beautiful vocally & definitely focus on mental health. I prefer How to be Me (live) just because of the backstory & pure emotion that Chinchilla is able to almost physically pull from Ren. I heard someone call it his wailing wall & it stuck with me. 💜
Both, pleaseeeee.
a resounding 'OMG yes' to both recommendations. also Chinchilla's new song "Little Girl Gone"
Yes! This! Exactly! 👌👏
First there is the epanaleptic structures, where the starts and end are _mirrored_ :
Jenny's part: "It was a quiet dark night in the empty street..." + "Can you blame"/"Such a shame" (...)
Screech's part: "Our story it _starts_ right at the _end_ " + "Our story it _ends_ right at the _start_ "
Violet's part: "London city far from pretty..." + the rewinding sound effect at the guitar
The whole: starting with Jenny and Screech's death and ending with their birth (...)
Then there are tons of reference to the lexical field of cycles and repeating patterns:
Jenny: "She walked it about a 1000 times before" / she's compared to a clock / "a symphony of the night that _echoes_ crime on London streets"
Screech: "Can I _swing_ ..." he says to his girlfriend
Violet: "Every night he tucked her tight..." / "Packing shelves at Tesco, stacking jars like pickled bricks" so repetitive work, and repetition builds a prison / "History repeats itself"
I'm sure I'm missing a ton.
It is my absolute favourite moment.
not only the falsetto (gorgeous), but the spiral imagery in the staircase. My favorite too :)
Me too
Yes yes and yes
That and the moment he starts singing on the bed …
@@simonteppett8435 Yes the singing in the bed with that guitar, so hauntingly beautiful
Amazing
Ren is very connected and I am willing to bet if you reached out to him to discuss his music and vocal style he would be willing to do so.
Ren had a conversation with Justin Hawkins recently, so I am sure Elizabeth would be able to secure a tea-time with him.
I would love this!
I'm surprised more people aren't requesting this to happen.
Yes. If mental health songs are the question, "Chalk Outlines" is the obvious answer.
It’s very good indeed but that is an absurd claim.
@@supertuscans9512 Plus, as Shakespeare put it: It was Greek to me.
Thank you.
100% agree he's a true modern day bard. absolutely love his story telling ability through his singing and acting

@@tony1kenobi929 I loved Justin's interview with both Ren and Elizabeth. Both were fascinating and informative. Justin is an excellent interviewer. I've been watching JHRA for quite a while now.
i'm here all day for that interview!
Awareness is the eyes of God bringing ligh to our world.
@@limeros88 indeed.
Great analyse 'Chalk outlines' and 'How to be me' both with Chinchilla should be put on your list,
but as everyone has been saying the Ren rabbit hole with his friends is pretty big and they are all
talented and now is their time to shine and their music comes in all genres .....
During Violets Tale intro when hes plucking the string so intentional as her life literally hangs on a string.Bloody brilliant.

Someone on the original video said that Ren is like a modern Bard, bringing back the art of ballads. I totally agree. Ren's fucking awesome
Chilling, compelling, heartbreaking. Wonderfully played. Ren is a most unique individual. Not a happy piece, but one that people should hear. Wow.
Ren speaks about all the things that people usually don't mention, but should be talked about, and he doesn't go light. I know that he was inspired by reading that a 14 year old boy killed a woman over an attempted robbery, and that really hit him hard.

The fact he's unsigned is amazing and gives him that free range to make amazing music
Prince. Prince is the last person that comes to my mind that was this talented in so many areas.
Childish Gambino/ Donald Glover comes to mind.
Mike Shinoda comes to mind for me.
Kate Bush comes to my mind.
At that age for me Prince is the only better remember he was doing this at 16-17
Thank you for this reaction.
It's not just a song - the video, performance, and creativity. It's art and it's wonderful.
Loved every minute of your take on this fantastic trilogy.
Also big respect to you for mentioning his gofundme to further support Ren, you're a class act.
I was gonna say the genius of that great visual and the effect of the reverb.
A story that can't be told more eloquently than Ren just did. We have to all find a way to break the cycle. Thank you for lending your voice to this Elizabeth!
I love how excited you seem to get watching these. The joy is evident on your face, I can tell you truly love doing this.
I was waiting for you to cover this. Ren is an extremely talented musician. A fantastic analysis of his song
I firmly believe Ren is the musical genius of his generation. This trilogy breaks my heart every time I hear it.
Glad you enjoy this so much (judging from the trailer :)
Have you Chinchilla - Fingers on your list yet? The live performance on Hunger TV is vocally mind blowing. And I think the main reason why Chris Liepe interviewed her.
Oh boy! the only thing more adorable that I've seen is a Golden Retriever Puppy. Love your reactions my friend!
Yes i think it is Screech in his first moments ,just as in his last moments he made a bridge into Screetch's tale
WAIT! WHAT! No way … I cannot believe I never caught that …. The reason I happily read comments is in hopes of finding little gems like this one …. I love it … thanks ❤
Haunting indeed! My initial thought too!
oh my god that hit me in the solar plexus
Ren tells the stories and the filming of the stories are all done so well i found myself looking for the bodies laying on the ground. The saddest thing about this is the fact each of these things are happening in every country at this very moment and the cycle continues
I knew Elizabeth would get stuck on the beginning of Violet's tale and I'm all for it, I love that part.
Lots of love

I have really been hoping that you would do this one. I can't wait to see it! I want to thank you for introducing me to Hi Ren. Since seeing it on your channel, Ren has quickly become one of my favorite artists.
Awesome reaction ! I learn more from you and Knox Hill, than from any other reactor. Thank you for your perspective! Keep up the good work !
Beautiful.
I'd like to have seen Elizabeth listen to some his more singy stuff - How to Be Me is a stand out for me
Zion.
Yes! The live version is amazing
I disagree with the replies here, the studio version is just better. Chalk outlines is great live but how to be me was a touch disappointing. The modifications they made, especially chinchilla's, just don't really fit imo.
yeh... this... the live 'How to be Me'...
The joy and excitement you have for the music makes it so much fun to watch along with you … thank you ❤
peace & love
Am I crazy but this makes me think of Bertolt Brecht "The threepenny opera". Raw and reflective of the life in the more difficult part of town.
The way he delivers the lines is phenomenal.
He's truly a n amazing story teller.
This is my favourite reaction/review of this tragic tale (and I've watched alot!). So many new insights that others haven't commented on.
Many have come close, but finally you madam have finally done justice to this piece of art from a modern day minstrel.
Elizabeth, your energy is absolutely contagious ❤
