    I appreciate you having Imam Tom Facchine one of the best lecturers I've ever known. Actually I'm addicted to his amazing work on RUclips and I also never skip any interview he's invited to. To me he's a huge reference of Islam in north America. May Allah bless him and increase his knowledge.

    I loooove these lectures on secularism. I learn so much. I feel understanding Islam better, thus increasing our confidence and pride, can be achieved through deconstruction of Secularism and liberalism and in that way returning to the Islamic paradigm of seeing the world.

      Yes, alhamdulillah for these very aware knowledgeable people among us. It puts a different perspective on things. But it is also a bit frightening to realize how societies, nations have been manipulated, culturally, politically, ethically over time. The Quran speaks about it, not directly though, when it talks about Iblis and his works.

It has really help me to identify the current dogmas of Western society and the systems of power and control currently deployed, I feel I can better grasp Secularism now and will certainly be purchasing and reading the book.
    Imam Tom briefly mentioned the potential of going through some of the works of Hallaq as the next logical step to this, I and I'm sure others would really love if you invited Imam Tom to the channel again to explore some of Hallaq's work such as The Impossible State, Restating Orientalism and Sharī'a.

    By reading about the Ottoman state I realized how much autonomy previous generations had and how much different communities, families and lifestyles were supported. The state was if compared to today's standards very rudimentary.
    Shaykh Abdulqadir Sufi wrote a great book called Sultaniya which goes in detail into the awqaf and the system. I think it would be very beneficial to look into this subject in some future epizode.

    I heared a very mysterious discussion about pyramid,firaun and moses. A renowned engineer of our country who was atheist before talked about it in an interview. He visited egypt.He told that story of firaun and moses has been mentioned most times in Quran than any other prophets story.There are definitely any reason.Why firaun is so cursed? There are many king who was more cruel than firaun.And he was not only man who claimed himself as God.But why Firaun is special? The speaker said that he has researched a lot about it and got the answer.But he didn’t give the answer. He told audience to think about it.After listening this I am thinking all the time. He gave some clue that it is related to mysterious technology pyramid. I am from Bangladesh.

    @TomFacchine I listened to this video and to your discussion of the impossible state. Its really a fascinating topic. But I can't help but to think, that it's pretty contradictory to say that modernity brought up a atomized morally individualized subject and at the same time a never heard of formative state power. Asad seems to think, the government was stripped of its moral power and Hallaq argues that there never was such a formative power because there was no state to excersie it. How do these positions add up? I would really appreciate a brief enlightening comment...

    Unlike Shariah, whi H is unchangeable, the fiqh / law is not immutable and changes with context & time/place. There are obsolete laws eg on slavery, etc. that have / require change. Daeesh/ISIL used their own way to use law for their own purposes in areas they invaded.

    I greatly enjoyed this talk. As someone in Germany, I can attest to what was said about intergration and frowning. But I do not get what you brother Paul meant at 1:04:30. How does one look Muslim? Is a thawb, a bisht a taqya indication of Muslimness? Hardly so. If you said culturally traditional dresses that would be another thing but I think at this point you know between what is cultural and what religious.

    • @vmoses1979
      @vmoses1979 Год назад

      Certain forms of dress are associated with Islamic cultures but it doesn't mean you're not Muslim if you don't wear them. Paul was making the larger point of the inherent restrictions in secular countries that say they are for the freedom of individuals.
