Love my 509, 2k rounds down the pipe with no issues. Every serviceable part is steel, including frame rails and guide rods. CHF barrel with a huge polished feed ramp and fully supported chamber. Everything seems very durable and high quality. The controls and ergo work perfect with me being a lefty. I particularly love how the cut above the trigger guard is beveled so it rests my thumb perfectly between it and my TLR7a’s switch. I hope it ends up working out for you, it’s a pretty sweet machine!

I had the 509C but sold it. Couldn't get over the bad trigger. This was before I got comfortable installing aftermarket triggers myself. I definitely recommend swapping out the stock trigger as it is a long, gritty pull. Also the magazine didn't insert smooth enough for me. Always needed extra force to fully get it seated in. That ended up giving me magazine bite when inserting and it got really annoying. It just wasn't built for my specific hands
I had the same problem and bought the Apex. Over 8k rounds with the stock trigger "I'm a procrastinator" it's broken in like a worn baseball glove. Don't think I'm going to put the Apex in. You don't need a lighter trigger pull on a duty gun anyways.

Nice review Thank you. I believe Glock has a lifetime warranty. I know bc I live near Smyrna GA (Glock HQ, I think) and I've twice brought Glocks there for a checkup. They replaced marginal parts for no charge. Do you know if FN has a similar program? Thanks again. bg
Glock 19 is the best do all pistol for many reasons. Also the best pistol for end the world shtf situation just because of its popularity and the available parts that would be around. Also like u said it will always go bang. GLOCK 19 best Glock in 9mm. Glock 20tho my favorite Glock and 29. That 10mm just something else 😮💨
My Glock 19 kept jamming on me and spent shells kept hitting my face so I gave it to my nephew. My Beretta 92F is more reliable and accurate, per my own experience. Will never buy another plastic gun.
@@scooterbob4432 sounds like u had a p80 that u just called a Glock lol. Never heard someone have that problem with any Glock. G19 the most popular handgun in the us
The FN 509c comes with one 12-round mag and one 24-round mag. I had to order two 15-round mag for the gun. I am about to order a 17-round mag to match my Glock 19x I carry both
I have a g26 Gen 3 with 3k plus rounds. I love glock but the grip angle has me looking elsewhere. I have to point down a bit. The FN on the other hand might have a problem getting dropped in the mud. For carry I think I'm becoming a sig fan like most people lately.
Look up Larry Vickers Aimpoint Acro P1 torture tests, the FN will be perfectly fine. I have both the 509 and M18; I feel the FN is the more reliable, durable, and robust platform. Love the way the M18 shoots though, very nice recoil impulse. 2k rounds though the 509 with no malfunctions, 700 through the M18 with 1 light primer strike ~90rd mark.
Want to get the fn 509c for my first handgun !! I’m 21 years old and I need a pistol for work . I travel state to state a lot . But I’m stuck between the g19x gen 5 and this … the 509 doesn’t come w night sights and I don’t want to buy them and install them.. but if I have to I will. What would you say I get ?
I have a Glock 26 gen 3 and 509c .. man I loved the 26 to death but next to the 509c it can't compare in features, looks, feel..I feel I need to upgrade to gen 5 to even compete
With the exception of this review, I really don't know anything about the 509c. The Glock 19 has been my primary carry gun for sometime, with Glock 26 as a secondary or BUG. My 19 has 15,000 (+/- 100) and 26 is just shy of 4,000. They go bang. Sight are always first to go. Another 19 was modified to accept a Trijicon RMR and is equipped with TLR-1. To verify reliability of RMR, I put 2,000 rounds through it (now it's up to 7,400). I recently acquired a S&W M&P9 Shield Plus. Great carry gun but the texture is a bit aggressive on clothing. LGS had a sale plus an additional 13 round magazine. The order was late because of UPS. He threw in an additional two 13 round magazines. Great deal in the long run.
If Glock would stop being lazy with the R&D we might have had a truly "perfect" Glock by now. That slide release should've been updated long ago along with a few other things. I understand if it ain't broke don't fix it, but they can and should improve and polish out the perfection.
500 rounds thru the 509C. No issues. Unfortunately, the P365 X-Macro came along and it is getting more rounds than the FN: ruclips.net/video/06z2TBtUUWs/видео.html
Glock 19 gen 5 all the way. I wanted an FN 509c but I don’t trust it. When I found out about the striker breakage, I was completely turned off. I know those problems have been mostly fixed but I still don’t feel right about the FN 509 series. Never had any reliably problems with Glock. My favorite gun right now is actually a Glock 45 MOS with a Trijicon RMR and Surefire X300. I have Glock 17’s and Glock 19’s but I like the longer grip and shorter slide. It’s magic!
The Gen 4 Glocks had problems when it was first released. Look it up..and a simple $50 Apex striker takes care of that anyway…your going to spend more than that updating Glocks trash sights. And I’m not hating I own a Gen 5 and had to replace the sights..furthermore the LAPD now uses the 509 series and put it through a 20k round test..and it performed very well.
That’s a custom shop after market Cerakote Glock 19 gen 5. Glock doesn’t produce this at the factory. The only one they have is the 19x that is factory and they call it Coyote Tan. I have one and it is very nice.
My G26 is even smaller with a shorter grip, and for me is as accurate as any of my larger guns, even at distance. Plus it has the never ending option of all the other sized Glock magazines 10, 15, 17 or even 33 rounds.
Putting an Apex extractor and striker in the gun should be more of a priority than worrying about putting 1000 rounds through the gun. FN's customer service is very poor! I regret buying my FN for that reason!
I own both guns. The FN 509C beats the Glock 19 in ergonomics but that is the only area that it beats the Glock 19 in. The 509C is reliable unless it gets dropped in the elements and then its reliability drops big time. I have a few FN firearms and do like them so this isn’t a knock on FN. When it comes to the FN 509 and the FNS-9, I actually think the FNS-9 is the better gun between the 2. Some things on the 509 are better than the FNS-9 but overall if I had to choose between those 2 FN handguns the FNS-9 would be my personal choice by a very slight margin. I think that’s it a slightly better built gun overall.
The 509 powers through pretty much everything you can throw at it, look up Larry Vickers Acro P1 torture tests. The 509 is an absolute unit of a pistol, they definitely didn’t design a weaker/less reliable pistol for the M17 trials.
Sir you are so wrong about 509C only beating the Glock in ergonomics... if Glocks are so great, which they are, there is a reason why LAPD chose 509 over as their new gun for all of their officers.
@@chltmdwp, a department choosing a firearm is more budget based as opposed to what firearm is actually better. I don’t hate the FN 509 and do like many things about it but in my experiences with my own personal one and a handful of other peoples who I have shot, I think the only area that it beats a Glock is in ergonomics. Certainly not reliability with my experiences using numerous types of ammo or when exposed to the elements. Every 509 that I have shot and exposed to different elements to test reliability has not done very well at all. That is also my I think the FN FNS-9 is the better gun over the 509. My FNS-9 has shown far better reliability than the 509 has. But to each their own. If someone says to me that they own a 509 and prefer it to Glocks, Sig’s or whatever, then I’m not going to argue with them or crap on their choice. It is a good gun but in my personal experiences it has not shown any area of superiority over a Glock or a Sig Sauer P320 or P320 X series.
I have gorilla mitts so I hate guns that require me to adjust my master grip to seat mags. Even the G19 is cutting it too close. I love my G45 for this reason.
I bought the FN 509 compact tactical simply because I wanted a new 9mm and did not want another Glock. I looked at Sig and said I have enough of those as well. So I bought the 509, however a little while later I went back and bought a HK VP9SK. The HK is hands down superior to the FN in every way. Don’t get me wrong, the FN is a great gun but the HK is just spectacular.
If you don’t love Glocks, well, you’re just a gun snob (gnob), and I get it. But this FN is like taking a Glock 19, investing a few more bucks, and coming up with a slightly improved take on it - Glock still being the baseline against which all others are judged. Shorter barrel and grip? G26 with a 2-round magazine extension, my go-to “everything” gun. I’ve got multiple 9 mm and .40 S&W slides to boot. I bought a Tag before I could afford a Rolex, and when I could finally afford a Rolex, I had been so pleased with my Tag, I just couldn’t justify “upgrading.” It’s tempting, I admit. But for me - Nein, Glock is Fine!

Question is can I take an FN 509C and put a 509C MRD slide on it?
I recently gifted my Glock 19 Gen 5 to my 22 year old son and I started carrying the Glock 48 but this comparison is making me think maybe I should give the 509 a try . I am definitely a proud glocktard but I'm willing to try out the competition
Nice review
Thank you.
So many of them out there. Very reliable. Hard to beat a Glock.
G19 the most popular handgun in the us
@@Wizop I also have a Glock 34, same problem. Never experienced that with my heavier Beretta 92F or my 1911 45 ACP.
@@Wizopyeah lol idk what he talking bout
Have both love both . But just favor the fn a little more cause of ergos
The FN 509c comes with one 12-round mag and one 24-round mag. I had to order two 15-round mag for the gun. I am about to order a 17-round mag to match my Glock 19x I carry both
I’m in between the Glock 43X, Sig 365 Macro, Hellcat Pro and the FN 509C. I need more capacity than my XDS
Just traded my 509C for a 43x and a Holosun EPS
Hi from Melbourne Australia mate 👍.
I have a Glock 26 gen 3 and 509c .. man I loved the 26 to death but next to the 509c it can't compare in features, looks, feel..I feel I need to upgrade to gen 5 to even compete
The 509 striker breaking deal scares me
It should, because it's an issue that they know about, but won't acknowledge along with the weak FN extractor.
@@o-g-ob4399 exactly went full circle tried sig,cz fn taurus Smith and just back to the king 👑 glock
Great comment. Thanks R Marasco.
If Glock would stop being lazy with the R&D we might have had a truly "perfect" Glock by now.
That slide release should've been updated long ago along with a few other things.
I understand if it ain't broke don't fix it, but they can and should improve and polish out the perfection.
I'm waiting for you to let me know how it goes for you on reliable with different load's ?
It’s magic!
Can't go wrong with a Glock. Thanks for your comment Leroy.
P365’s had striker issues too, they seem to be just fine now 🤷🏼♂️
The Gen 4 Glocks had problems when it was first released.
Fn addressed that issue long ago. Come on, it's a reputable company...
No issues with the striker and trigger smooths out over time. Zero complaints about the FN 509 C.
Both are great firearms yet FN makes a better product and more comfortable to your grip and hand.
FN sent him that Gun…… Give me that Glock…keep that FN……
What upc or sku is that color glock 19? Thanks
That’s a custom shop after market Cerakote Glock 19 gen 5. Glock doesn’t produce this at the factory. The only one they have is the 19x that is factory and they call it Coyote Tan. I have one and it is very nice.
I've heard a lot about the striker breaking on the fn . Anyone have the same issue ? Besides that I really want this gun
I own 4 of them, no issues think QC worked the issues
Fan of both I own both
My G26 is even smaller with a shorter grip, and for me is as accurate as any of my larger guns, even at distance. Plus it has the never ending option of all the other sized Glock magazines 10, 15, 17 or even 33 rounds.
Thanks for the comment Grizz474.
Putting an Apex extractor and striker in the gun should be more of a priority than worrying about putting 1000 rounds through the gun.
FN's customer service is very poor! I regret buying my FN for that reason!
G19x 💯
Im torn between the two pistols.
😭😭😭
You can't go wrong with either so don't worry.
Printing does not matter.
Thanks for your comment J.R. Lots of interesting info.
@@j.r.777 509’s don’t randomly shoot people like P320’s do lol Perks of a half-cocked striker
VP9s are nice. FN 509C VS HK VP9SK coming soon. Heard great things.
I carry the P30SK 15 rounds and I love it. I also have 509 and still carry the HK.
You are comparing apples with oranges. If you want to compare the FN509C with a Glock, it must to be with a 26 instead of a 19.
Thanks for the comment Carlo.
Took the words out of my mouth!!!
“beautiful glock 19”.... an adjective I never heard associated with block.
Th FN feels good in your hand so it'll feel really bad to your attacker! 😂
FN is great.
Interesting and informative 🇯🇲
Glad you enjoyed it MM.
fn 509 is just better
FN pistol not in 5.7? Noooooo! Lol
Great comment. Thanks Jordan.
👍👍
Thanks
You can do the same thing with a Glock 26…
That’s not unique to Fn…
You have me until “The sights on both of these guns are good”. Bro, those traditional Glock sights are hot GARBAGE lol

Uhhh...if you insist.
What was the holster for the fn?

I’d take my Glock over the FN any day.
Why is that ?..
💯💯
eh. consider me another glockboi. I didn't like how the 509 or 509C felt in my hand. I felt like it was just slightly nicer Springfield XD... which I hate, yet my dad in boomer fashion loves.
You have a cool dad : )

COME ON DUDE. I was following you, until you said the sights on the Glock are good. Glock sights are absolute garbage, nobody likes them. They're cheap plastic and they're the worst sight picture, arguably worse than the bodyguard 380.
Why get the Glock? Your wallet. The FN is overpriced. Period. What does a 509 do that the 19 can't?
Grip angle, modular grip length, shorter barrel. But yes, you can't go wrong with a Glock.
FN feels like a gun. Glock feels like a block.
Almost anything is better than a Glock. Most modern handgun are as reliable if not more so ....That Glock reliability slogan is pathetic
