This song is soaked in sadness, inevitability and nostalgia that gives us some time to feel the taste of things, people and places long gone and heading to be forgotten.
Yet these feelings make us more present, the feeling that everything is fleeting, makes the present thus the more present and the future and past more absent. I turned into a ball of matter ever expanding it's speed and mass while tumbling down what I am sure was an infinite mountain slope. The song helped me let go and go with the experience. Guy's chugging bassline coming in at 1:04 gets me every time. Love how it holds off and keeps the tension for the whole first verse and two repeats of the signature piano riff (before and after), then finally gives us release. It's songwriting/production decisions like these that make a great song.

Not too many bands can blur sonic melancholia and the uplifting all into one song…First time I heard it when it was released in mid-2005, over the cable radio station (remember those?) at our advertising agency in the studio bullpen, I knew it was an instant classic. Perfectly matched my mood at the time, for a whole host of reasons, and has stuck with me ever since. ❤

I am feeling depressed for the past few weeks and I have been listening to Coldplay all day long. Chris has a mesmerizing voice and personality. I love watching his interviews. Kind and gentle soul.
There has been 4 ice ages before our coming ice age. I really believe there will be another coming of the golden age of music that we went through :) Maybe not them in particular, but the next kids will show us. But then again, we might be then too old and mature to enjoy the simple things those songs meant to us when we were growing up.

honestly think everyone steals, rips off or borrows something from another artist or genre no matter how small that sample may be. that's why we have a lot of different genres in music they are usually an evolution of a previous genre.so there is no "original" in the music industry.
As if it reminds me of the times I used to be happy and where my family used to get along b7t nowadays everybody has distant themselves and are doing thier own things
I've always thought of this song as "Clocks" part 2. Both songs equally epic in melancholic perfection. When this song first came out and I heard it, it was like hearing a reincarnation of Clocks. The two songs definitely have their differences, but for me, this will always be some sort of spiritual successor to Clocks. I do probably prefer Clocks, though, only by a little bit. Clocks was WAY ahead of it's time musically when it came out in 2002, which is something I think people tend to forget.
Always thought the same for these two songs.. But I just thought it was because I began falling in love with Clocks at my first hospital admission, and began listening Speed of sound at the second. The second admission remind me so many bad memories and it felt like a little "deja-vue".. So Speed of sound reminds me Clocks, and it's like you said: "The part 2" (sorry for bad english, I'm just french aha)
Hey Bonnie Bell would you care for some company I also feel this way as well, more so like a personal call from the universe lol. Stay blessed and highly favored
I feel that the song's lyrics basically give meaning to life's unanswered questions. Like a realization of some sort. The lyrics tell the story a person who just spent his entire life trying to find an answer, but accepts he will never find it and realizes that never finding the answer is in fact the true and realistic answer. I especially love it when it says, "Some things you can invent. Some get made and some get sent." Meaning there are some questions or things in life that can be answered, but some you just have to accept never finding the answer and live on which is reality. Anyways thx for reading. I just really wanted to get out what I felt was the meaning of this song.
In less than a month, I will take my daughter to her 1st concert....Coldplay....she will finally be able to appreciate it live. I am thankful to be here today to share my love of music and my admiration of Coldplays music with her.

I think this album ended their first stage as a band (Parachutes, AROBTTH and X&Y). Gradually growing from a small-sounding indie band into a somewhat cosmic-sounding rock band. There have been few songs which I've enjoyed after this but for me, the band have never been the same since. Love this album.
It's my favorite. Like Fall Out Boy's Folie A Deux and Panic! At the Disco's Vices and Virtues, X&Ywas the most underrated and best of the classics. Then they all started drifting away (FOB completely sold out after they came back from their hiatus, but you get me). Coldplay isn't that bad, and Panic! is just mediocre pop now, but FOB completely undermining their legacy
This song makes me feel in a way I can't describe, a sad, melancholy harmony that fills my soul with resentment for the past. I think we take for granted the impact we can have on the lives of others, you can change someone's time with just a few words or a simple action, you can change someone's feelings in an instant. For those who read this, impact the lives of others and be kind, the smallest things can take you far.
Truly this song makes me fly, makes me fly in time I can not explain. It is as if everything stopped and there was only that sound for us to hear, to always hear wonderful.
This came out when I was in the third grade. I'll never forget it. It's moved me in ways you could not imagine. I'm 30 now and it still feels like the first time every time it's played. Thank you Coldplay.
Heard this song when it first debuted in one of our local radio stations in 2005. Instantly became my most favorite Coldplay song ever. It's nostalgic, bitter-sweet but tranquil.
*favorite. There's no such thing as most favorite, there can only be one favorite of anything. Anything less than your favorite is called the second-favorite, third-favorite etc.
My dad used to listen to coldplay and i thought, these guys sound weird, they've got a unique sound. I started to listen to it with my dad and then i got obsessed. I went to one of their concerts for my 12th birthday. And nowadays I listen to them more than he does haha and he says they've lost their sound, which is partly true, but they will always have a place in my heart. When I am down or feel like I have no other music to listen to I always turn to Coldplay. Probably my favourite band EVER period.
well said Adam... we still love Coldplay even if their sound has changed a bit over the years... I'd be honored if some Coldplay fans would check out my acoustic piano & vocal covers of SKY FULL OF STARS and VIVA LA VIDA on my channel in tribute to the masters of 21st century music. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and peace.
I dont think they lost their sound, I think they found their sound. They may have lost the sound you were familiar with, but they've said that their most recent music has been the music they've been aiming to make all along and they finally did it.
Ollie Doveton-Kaufman ok well that’s how u feel, but according to them their most recent album was the sound that they’ve been striving to make since the beginning. That’s the album that feels the most like them.. so if they’re happy and proud to be making that music I don’t see a problem with it
@@Joelyne37 I think you'll find that most people feel the same way, which is evidenced by the fact that pretty much no one talks about Coldplay anymore - ironic given that they're more mainstream than they ever have been. Regarding this claim they made about their own music, if it is true, I'd say they're either in denial or they just don't want to admit to how far they've fallen. Quite simple really. The rest of us can see it.

+Barby Arce i like flies
im 20 now too but the first i heard from them was clocks years ago
Una película de huevos 🙌🏽
Not too many bands can blur sonic melancholia and the uplifting all into one song…First time I heard it when it was released in mid-2005, over the cable radio station (remember those?) at our advertising agency in the studio bullpen, I knew it was an instant classic. Perfectly matched my mood at the time, for a whole host of reasons, and has stuck with me ever since. ❤
Indeed. Absolutely, I can listen to this song all day.
Também percebi instantaneamente que seria um clássico...❤
One of the things I love about Coldplay is that, even when their songs are about something sad, they still somehow uplift me and fill me with joy xxx
that actually is implied in their band name 'Coldplay'- Cold meaning something sad and dark, and Play, meaning something uplifting and enjoyable.
One of the finest singles ever crafted. Their first 3 LPs were the best run any band has ever had and they're still consistently making awesome music.
How many of you just want to put on a WINGSUIT and fly down a beautiful valley without a care in this world while listening at full blast to this ColdPlay tune?
on LSD ;)
I want to do this wile pissing on the world.
I've done it while paragliding. Chills
This is a very good song to free fly to.
Omg I've had that exact same thought
I don’t consider myself to be a real Coldplay fan, but this is my favourite song of them. It’s timeless and makes you float.
100% agree in everything, this one is so underrated and nostalgic
yo ya con 42 años y al escucharla me devuelve a esos días en que sonaba fulllll en radios MTV RUclips es una máquina en el tiempo sin duda alguna🤩😍
Clocks, and Speed And Sound are probably 2 of my favorite Coldplay songs.
The music is just the best

Oh my gosh, this has to be the greatest introduction to a song ❤ that I have ever heard.Cosmic royalty in it's rare form. And I am so grateful
When i was 20 yrs old, i listened coldplay. When i am now 34 yrs old, i am listening coldplay. Maybe when i am 55 yrs old, i will still listen their song.
Edit: i am now 35 and still continue on listening..

i feel you brother ,i have the same feeling
I was 10 when I heard their first song.. now I'm 20
I’m almost 55 yrs old and still listening to this. Great song.
Coldplay is a music genre itself. How astonishing are each sounds/notes.
Am glad to be alive !
You're the soul of it all here!
@@kendolan5632 You are also!
No musician ever stays the same. That would be boring. You only grow when you try new things. I love Coldplay's evolution.
100% agree
Thank you for saying that. I agree
+wifey your so right
+Phresh Ideas + Designs no thanks not interested in evolution like this...coldplay was something different in past now its just electronic mainstream s...
Nobody's being forced to listen to their new material. If you don't like it, stop listening. It's just that simple.
I am feeling depressed for the past few weeks and I have been listening to Coldplay all day long. Chris has a mesmerizing voice and personality. I love watching his interviews. Kind and gentle soul.
I remember a decade ago, when i was 6, falling asleep in the car listening to this, good times, too bad the world cant go back to being what it was

Golum Red exactly the feelings i get from these songs :(
There has been 4 ice ages before our coming ice age. I really believe there will be another coming of the golden age of music that we went through :)
Maybe not them in particular, but the next kids will show us. But then again, we might be then too old and mature to enjoy the simple things those songs meant to us when we were growing up.
But you can go back to that world.
Listen to this music.
This song hits our eardrums with the speed of sound =
340.29 m / s
That depends on the altitude and temperature.
At sea level, that is ;)
and air pressure
***** I'd rather be called a nerd than be stupid, but then, that's your choice.
depends
This song is absolutely genius, how relatable the lyrics are with everything, along with the melody, incredible. Love it.
Exactly what I was thinking :) im in love with cold play
“All that noise, and all that sound. All those places I got found.”
My favorite part ❤️

Gosh, I just can't get over that this song is 15 years old... Man time flies... I remember this song coming out my senior year in high school and man I still love it!!! X&Y is still my favorite Coldplay album!! I hate I never got to see y'all live... Maybe just one day that will happen (Keeping fingers crossed)
I got to see Coldplay play clocks live, and I started crying. It really is beautiful.

They're original! I've always loved them.
agree!!!
no junk, no sex, everything clean and heart hurts in good way listening their music!!!
xd
If there was one band I had to see before I die it would be Coldplay. They produce more than music, they produce excellence.
+keayana cragwell Don't you mean they rip off other peoples productions? This is a ripoff of Kate Bush's 'Running up that hill'...They have ripped off Kate Bush, Kraftwerk, Joe Satriani, Cat Stevens....etc etc...
honestly think everyone steals, rips off or borrows something from another artist or genre no matter how small that sample may be. that's why we have a lot of different genres in music they are usually an evolution of a previous genre.so there is no "original" in the music industry.
i cant find the similarities between this song and running up that hill to be honest
+Scott Miller no judgement cuz I love that band but even the mighty Led Zeppelin has a lot of alleged stolen stuff.

My first favorite music. Famous when MTV Channel was still on Indonesian
This song is so angelic and so nostalgic

I've always thought of this song as "Clocks" part 2. Both songs equally epic in melancholic perfection. When this song first came out and I heard it, it was like hearing a reincarnation of Clocks. The two songs definitely have their differences, but for me, this will always be some sort of spiritual successor to Clocks. I do probably prefer Clocks, though, only by a little bit. Clocks was WAY ahead of it's time musically when it came out in 2002, which is something I think people tend to forget.
+Nostalgic_Chaos I've seen you other comment(s) in their other videos. Your description of his songs are brilliant.
Sadaf M Thanks, bro. Coldplays early days are some of the best songs I've ever heard and I think were some of the best songs ever created.
Me too
Victoria Robert Ah, I understand. I hope you are in good health now.
Always thought the same for these two songs.. But I just thought it was because I began falling in love with Clocks at my first hospital admission, and began listening Speed of sound at the second. The second admission remind me so many bad memories and it felt like a little "deja-vue".. So Speed of sound reminds me Clocks, and it's like you said: "The part 2"
(sorry for bad english, I'm just french aha)
Every time I listen to Coldplay, I feel as if I'm in another universe 😍🌎

Cold play is one of the different artist with music that touches your soul
X&Y was not just an album, it was a lifestyle.
Yeah for sure I think it’s Their best album.

LYRICS:
How long before I get in?
Before it starts, before I begin?
How long before you decide?
Before I know what it feels like?
Where to, where do I go?
If you never try, then you'll never know
How long do I have to climb
Up on the side of this mountain of mine?
Look up, I look up at night
Planets are moving at the speed of light
Climb up, up in the trees
Every chance that you get
Is a chance you seize
How long am I gonna stand
With my head stuck under the sand?
I'll start before I can stop
Before I see things the right way up
All that noise, and all that sound
All those places I have found
And birds go flying at the speed of sound
To show you how it all began
Birds came flying from the underground
If you could see it then you'd understand
Ideas that you'll never find
All the inventors could never design
The buildings that you put up
Japan and China all lit up
The sign that I couldn't read
Or a light that I couldn't see
Some things you have to believe
But others are puzzles, puzzling me
All that noise, and all that sound
All those places I have found
And birds go flying at the speed of sound
To show you how it all began
Birds came flying from the underground
If you could see it then you'd understand
Ah when you see it then you'll understand
All those signs, I knew what they meant
Some things you can invent
And some get made, and some get sent
Ooh ooh
Birds go flying at the speed of sound
To show you how it all began
Birds came flying from the underground
If you could see it then you'd understand
Ah, when you see it then you'll understand
And it all makes sense.....

Interestingly, Coldplay HATES this song! They said it was a "shit" recording, and they never really got the song right lol

This song holds memories of a very special time for me with friends who I have lost forever. I love it.
R W I’m sorry to hear that brother. But I am glad to hear that this song holds the memories y’all shared.
X&Y is an underrated album and this is of the best songs of work!
Coldplay isn't that bad, and Panic! is just mediocre pop now, but FOB completely undermining their legacy
uRM TRUTH
Yes that's really true.

Makes me long for the past lol
i feel you😢
I hope that time will heal your wound. Keep practicing kindness. It WILL come back to you....
Truly this song makes me fly, makes me fly in time I can not explain. It is as if everything stopped and there was only that sound for us to hear, to always hear wonderful.

Love Coldplay. I always thought that "Clocks" is like a question and "Speed of Sound" is its answer.

You hit the nail on the head. They are otherworldly , in a good way.
Gabrael St Hilaire Coldplay sounds so homely to me that's why i listen them everyday 🐙
Gabrael St Hilaire The early to mid 2000’s is a different universe a much better and happier one
@@Joelyne37 their new stuff is generic mainstream tosh mate, sorry but it's true. This song is from a time when they used to be relevant.
I am totally mesmerised by the DRUMS!!!!! .. with every other accompanying instrument, voice and lyrics = Perfect Rocking Bliss♡
