    Since this blog was posted in 2012 we have received an overwhelming response from those concerned about thyroid cancer. If you think you may be experiencing some potential warning signs, we encourage you to make an appointment with your physician as a first step. If you have already received a diagnosis of cancer, or you think you might need a second opinion, we encourage you to request an appointment with our qualified team in Buffalo, New York: www.roswellpark.org/become-a-patient

    I had an ultrasound that came back with a thyroid nodule at a TI-RADS 5. Had the FNA done last week, but it was inconclusive. Will be going to Cedars Sinai to see a specialist. This is also causing major calcifications to form in both my shoulders, that will require surgery.

    This message is for Slosh29 as I can't seem to respond directly to your comment. Sorry for the late response. I hope the nodules turned out to be benign. Just so you are aware, radioactive iodine treatment for thyroid cancer can be delivered safely to someone with an iodine allergy. Below is a statement from the American Thyroid Association. Best of luck.
    What is radioactive iodine (RAI)? Iodine, in the form of iodide, is made into two radioactive isotopes that are commonly used in patients with thyroid diseases: I-123 (harmless to thyroid cells) and I-131 (destroys thyroid cells). The radiation emitted by each these isotopes can be detected from outside the patient to gain information about thyroid function and take pictures of the size and location of thyroid tissues. RAI is safe to use in individuals who have had allergic reactions to seafood or X-ray contrast agents, since the reaction is to the compound containing iodine, not the iodine itself. RAI is given by mouth in pill or liquid form.

    Something I wanted to mention on this video, As for sources of radiation, old CRT computer monitors can leak radiation kind of like how old microwaves from the 70's can leak radiation after being used for so long(different but same concept).

    I have thyroid cancer. Had a full neck dissection right side first, left side the second surgery. Told it was the easiest to treat. I’m calling bullshit on that. Now I have 3 more lumps that look suspicious for cancer again. Now I get to watch it and wait. Still extremely frustrating. I’m scared. And my depression level has gone through the roof. And on top of that my body won’t absorb RAI. I’ve had that 2 times too. Then I tried to get into Roswell and they want proof my body don’t except RAI and I can’t get my drs to fax the proof to rosewell so I’m screwed.😖

    I'm getting a Fine Needle Biopsy next week on a dominant solid nodule that is up to 1.5cm on my posterior left thyroid lobe. The only reason they caught it was b/c my right lobe was enlarged and I was sent for an ultrasound. Hopefully it is benign, if not hopefully it is early enough that it is treatable!

      ***** Hello. I hope your bronchitis is better. It is very normal to have enlarged or swollen lymph nodes when your body is fighting an infection like bronchitis. The best thing to do is to see your primary doctor so that he/she can evaluate you and monitor your lymph nodes over a short period of time (usually about 3 months) as your respiratory symptoms improve.

    Hopefully the people who watched the vid have better luck with their doctors. I've had 1 enlarged lymph node since November 2015, and 2 others came in January of 2016 along with a hard cyst on my neck. I have hypothyroidsim so people always tell me "it's nothing" or "don't worry everyone has bumps on their neck". I have seen 4 doctors all of which have sent me to other doctors and im finally going to get an ultrasound and blood work. I constantly fidget and touch them and people tell me that's why they don't shrink is that true or are they just trying to calm me down?

      @crystalcrawford553 6 лет назад

      Ethan Clemons be your own advocate. You know your body best. Me I’ve had thyroid issues since I was young but in the last year and a half I’ve had lymph inflammation and my thyroid gland has gotten huge and I mean huge. Just recently like in the last two days I’ve had a hard sore lump on my right side under my chin. I don’t have insurance so that’s an issue but I’ve had symptoms like breathing. I’ll find myself gasping for air like I’m underwater too long and swimming to the top. I eventually catch my breath. My nails are horrendously thin hair falling out. Weight gain hoarseness of my voice but I figure I’ve smoked so... thyroid issues is in my immediate family so I’m pretty sure I’m on my way and also is auto immune as far as RA, MS, vitiligo just to name a few

    • @anthonythorp7291

      Ethan sorry to hear that. You are not the only one living in the land of stupid doctors. I have seen doctor after doctor at multiple medical providers after medical providers and get nowhere but closer to poverty. $40 to $50,000 a year and no better than day one. Thankfully I have insurance but premiums, copays, travelling to appointments, medications, and hotel stays are costly. I also have to worry about what all those tests and meds are doing to my body.

Though there are some remainders of it it's much less of a problem now or so I believe, I've got a doc appointment coming soon so hopefully I'll have in depth information anyone reading. Hi Doc, I recently had a CT scan, results where approximately 1 cm solid nodule,I have been on levothyroxine for the last year, I started out with some discomfort and medication seems to shrinking the nodule,I would say 90% of the discomfort has gone away, my question is, is it a good sign when the nodule shrinks, I am going for a FNA soon, thank you very much........

    • @RPCICancerTalk
      @RPCICancerTalk  9 лет назад +1

      Mario Smith Hi. Sorry for the late response. I hope the FNA biopsy showed benign findings! I would’ve said to go ahead and get the biopsy since that is the best way to know what’s going on. If the biopsy is benign, your doctor will continue to monitor you, likely with periodic ultrasounds. If it shows atypical (abnormal) cells, it is still likely to be benign, however, you will probably need another ultrasound and biopsy in about 6 months. If it shows cancer, you will need to see a cancer surgeon to discuss surgery. I am glad the discomfort got better. Hope you are doing well.

    Can thyroid cancer be the result of having had CAT scans 5 or 10 years earlier?

    • @RPCICancerTalk
      @RPCICancerTalk  9 лет назад

      the2wheelcowboy Hi. Sorry for such a late response. I hope you are doing well. Unfortunately, yes, CT scans can deliver a small, but significant amount of radiation, which can increase the risk of cancer. The cancer risk from diagnostic (medical) radiation (eg xray, CT scan) is less than 1% in the US.The risk is greater with radiation exposure in children than in adults. It is unknown what the exact relationship between CT scans and thyroid cancer risk is and can vary by age and type of CT scanner and dose used. But remember, some CT scans are medically necessary. My advice would be to ask your doctor to balance the need for the CT scan versus the small amount of radiation exposure. Good luck!

      Oh joy. I've been CT-ed several times. I have cervigenical headaches caused by neck alignment. I believe its messing with my thyroid but can't get doctors to do anything. Thyroid tests come back ok.

    Just curious here, if the person doing your ultrasound asks if you've been exposed to radiation, is that something you should worry about, as well as receiving a call saying you have nodules on both sides & flecks or calcification on the left, is that a sign you should be worried?
