I had this cancer in my 20s, too (2004). It metastasized to other parts of my neck, and subsequently, I had an 11-hour surgery. Afterward, I had radioactive iodine and then had 2 more doses over the next 3 years.
Today everything is (knock on wood) ok and I feel fine. I take a pill every day, but that's it. My scar has since (mostly) faded, and I now see the whole experience as a blessing.
When I was diagnosed, I thought I might die, and I was filled with regrets of all the things I hadn't yet done in life. Now, I make sure I do EVERYTHING I ever wanted so that I never feel that way again.
Without cancer, I never would have gotten as much out of this life as I have.

true, I've had some truly fucked up side effects and life long calcium problems, 24 tablets a day. Its not unbearable though and things level out a bit and just become a new normal.
Worst of all has been the timing, and all the self isolation.

    • @RovingPunster

@@southendbusker7534 Why so many pills ? I had a total thyroidectomy 12 yrs ago (papillary, stage 2), and although i'm on an assortment of meds for various reasons, only one is thyroid related (synthroid), and my calcium levels, while not great, dont currently requite OTC (supplementation) or RX intervention. One big help I found is reducing the intake of carbonated bevs that have a lot of phosphoric acid ... excessive phosphorus intake leeches calcium. If you see it, switch to seltzer, or to other bevs that use different acids for tartness (citric, tartaric, malic, lactic, and carbonic are all fine). If you supplement, the type you take is important too ... from memory, I used to take calcium citrate with D3, but I stopped when my bloodwork indicated I should do so. At least 30 mins of real sunshine helps too. Cheers.

I didn't took radiation liquid. Tumor was 3.9cm size of a golf ball. Should I be concern? I have a 2 year old son,and a 14 year old son. DR say ,not to worried.

I am glad thyroid cancer is slow growing. The part that is getting upsetting is I have to look at assisted living places. For those of you out there most cases have a high cure rate. I had mine for a long time before we found it. I did not have any symptoms till I felt a lump. For six months my regular Drs could not feel it. When I told them I now feel three lumps. You’re a Great inspiration. At 60 years old during a routine doctors appointment the Doctor felt a lump on my left thyroid. It turned out to be a 8 cmx4cmx4cm nodule that encapsulated my left thyroid. I had a 7 needle biopsy that determined it was non cancerous. In late March my Thyroid was removed. After a week I received a call stating I had PTC. Back to surgery at end of June and then a round of iodine radiation. The “C” word is always scary. Prayers and supportive Friends and Family help you get through uncertain times. I run every other day and do weightlifting (4) times a week, I thought I was healthy. Things happen and you have to be positive. Prayers to everyone going through this.

@@craigrik2699 same! I'm 21 years old now (22 in June) and I was diagnosed with thryoid cancer when I was 20 years old. Originally I was supposed to stay overnight however my lymphatic vessel was "inadvertently damaged" during the procedure which meant a 1+ week hospital stay. They tried to stop the leakage caused by my surgery however they could not in the OR so I was sent to IR (Interventional Radiology) where they made a small incision into my stomach and stuck wires leading up to my heart to place a catheter to control the leak behind my heart. Well, another patient was having an emergency medical situation which meant they had to abort my procedure about halfway through 2 1/2 hours later. Good news is, is that the liquid/whatever it was they had injected into the vessel only had a 15-20% chance of working and it did. The leak was managed and no further procedures were needed thank God however I could not eat a single thing for a few days it was pure hell. I never felt such hunger in my life!!😞
Well, that's my story of experience with this and I'm so happy I'm not alone and there are many others who went through the same thing! I now have to take medication every morning fot the rest of my life however it's a rather small price to pay. Never needed radiation or anything however though they did remove 23 of my lymph nodes like you stated. 3 of which were cancerous.

@@shyryTsr2k Hi, got my RI (2400 mq) on Wednesday afternoon. By the morning (and a lot of water drinking) scan (2 per day) I had shed at least 60% of the RI, the physicist said I could look at release from the hospital that afternoon. I didn't, it was still just a wee bit to high however, I did get released the next morning, I was at 590 mq. No issues, the only painful part was the hospital was freezing (we are in Perth, Western Australia), I've caught a cold. I've moved into our masterbed room and my partner has moved into the spare room. The issue is that through my saliva or sweat or urine, some of my radioactive iodine could get into someone else's thyroid and cause damage, through absorbing my bodily fluid. So, I'll be in the masterbed room by myself at least till Wednesday, the wife is enjoying having a bed to herself lol. I go for my PET MIR scan tomorrow, as you know, this will show where any remaining thyroid tissue has taken up the RI, fingers crossed. Take care

I deal with my own problems, not bothering my family so that they will not be worried about me 😢 I entrust every thing in you Lord God. I found my tumors giving myself a breast exam in the shower. My doctor couldn't feel them but knew from experience that he better check it out. I had my thyroid. Para thyroid and 5 lymph nodes removed. I did the radiun I- 131 and never felt well. Never could balance my thyroid. Synthroid and Armour. I teeter totter.all of a sudden my voice is deep sounding. And my hair is falling out. Lordy I have lots of hair, but at this rate I'm worried. I'm wondering if my cancer is back?. I live in a rural Oregon town . Any reccomending doctors?
