If you went to medical school and sat in one the classes and observed the culture you’d better understand why doctors behave the way they do - the culture in Med schools needs to change
I had an autoimmune issue rip by body apart before a doctor finally took enough interest to really look into what was going on. I assume it’s because they felt I “looked” fine.
My 24 year old daughter went to her doctor with bloated symptoms and abdominal pain. The doctor told her to lose weight. A year later, after no relief and a CT scan, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Center. After two years of surgery and repeated sessions of chemotherapy, she passed away at the age of 26. Had the first doctor taken her seriously, or at least sent her to emergency, she might still be alive today.
my father is still alive but he has stage 4 cancer now because of a doctor that told him it was nothing (he told youre too sensitive) he went back a year later to another doctor because he couldnt take the pain anymore and he discovered he had prostate cancer and it had already spread in all of his body
Doctors seriously NEED to stop playing guessing games with women's health issues, stop telling us "it's probably nothing" when u haven't even done adequate tests for our symptoms
It's so frustrating hearing that the urgent care dr could feel a lump while palpating which is the absolute minimum the obgyn should have done before diagnosing it as bloating.
Doctors don't play games. I have several doctors in the family, and they take every patient seriously, they just try not to make patients panic. But medecine is not an exact science, it's very complicated, and the life of a doctor is very stressful.
msinvincible2000 Hi it isn't ok if doctors are guessing you know cancer can be a death sentence if not treated early enough.Doctors have a responsibility to treat people with respect and fairness. Wheres the fairness if symptoms are mis diagnosed by doctors. It isn't rocket science making sure that the individual doesn't have cancer and to be honest being diagnosed with cancer too late because doctors miss the symptoms is heartbreaking and stressful especially if you have children its a double punch in the gut.
I think you're forgetting that they're human beings and not a super hero not all doctors are the same. Be active in your care and they'll see that and start listening, demand testing.
I've seen this first-hand. When I was 3, if my parents hadn't kept searching for answers, I would've died. I kept vomiting, sick, and poor balance. The doctor wouldn't do anything about it. He said it was a virus, but it was stage 4 cancer! If my parents hadn't of went to Children's Hospital, I wouldn't have made it. Moral of the story, please take patients seriously!
You can never know better than them what's going on inside their bodies. We always have intuition of what's happening, but we're so busy making money and paying bills that we don't connect with our bodies as much as we should. Never think you know it all or be condescendent with a patient and you'll already be 50% of a good doctor.
I know the feeling: I was diagnosed with endometrial/Ovarian cancer 17 years ago and given a few months to live yet I’m still here. Don’t give up people and keep fighting.
Jonathon Britten To be told that you have only months to live is horrendous especially when you have children and it took me a couple of weeks to get over the shock tbh! I then starting researching how to make my immune system as strong as possible whilst I recovered from having a radical hysterectomy due to my having stage 3 endometrial/ovarian cancer. I started with the chemotherapy which of course made most of my hair fall out and then went on to the radiotherapy after which I told that I was cancer free but that it would quickly return and that would be that. I chose not to accept that and started drinking a small glass of fresh organic celery or beetroot juice every morning cutting sugar completely from my diet and eating healthy foods. I also had regular reflexology and Reiki sessions to calm me and keep me in a positive and calm state of mind. I literally THOUGHT myself better and would lie on my bed with my crystals hanging on my windows with the sun shining through them making their colours fill the room and imagine them removing any cancer from my body. I’m sure some people will scoff at all this but this is exactly what I did and I am still cancer free after 17 years! Give it a go people as the mind is the most powerful tool we have😊
Miri Am For your daughter: Number one: NEVER GIVE UP HOPE - yes you are in a scary, vulnerable and dangerous position but you CAN come through it. You have youth on your side which is a good thing but positivity and the idea that cancer IS beatable is utterly crucial so try your very best not to let scary and negative thoughts consume you which is easier said than done I know☹️. Number two: Buy a good quality juicing machine and every morning have a small glass of organic celery or beetroot juice -plus other fruits and vegetables. - not too much as it can give you wind. Cut out sugar completely and not too much dairy but fish and other heathy nutritious foods are a must. Just a small plateful is fine as I know that loss of appetite can be a problem. Number three: SPOIL YOURSELF if you feel well enough and if possible have a few Reiki sessions - once a month is fine as I know these therapies can be a little expensive plus reflexology which will calm you and focus your mind on getting better. Number four: buy one or two good quality crystals and hang them in a room which gets the sun then spin them around so they catch the light and fill the room with their beautiful healing colours then lie down and imagine the lights are moving through your body and destroying the cancer. This is precisely what I did for the year it took me to complete my treatment ie surgery, chemo and a little radiotherapy. I am thinking of you my darling and sending you love and positive thoughts - I KNOW that you can beat this. x
Similar story with my daughters diagnosis at 23. No one would listen. Diagnosed stage 4. She fought for 3.5 years RIP my Shauna O'Hara, you are still the sun and the moon and all that is in between. I miss you so. Will there ever be early detection?
My best friend died of cervical cancer that spread to her bladder and kidneys. She kept having pain on and off for several years but refused to go get checked because she was afraid. I begged her to go but she refused. When she got so bad she could barely walk and could not urinate she was admitted to the ER. The cancer was stage 4 and already spread. On her death bed she kept saying she wanted another chance to live. Ladies please get your yearly checkup. It could save your life!
except when your yearly checkup isnt allowed because you are too young. Haha. No seriously. They don't do physicals until you get to your 30's where I am. It is sad what the canadian health care system has become.
Beth I have been having that stabbing pain on my bottom right side right where my ovary is. I do my annual pap smear faithfully. I was told 4 years ago that I had a cyst the size of a golf ball on it. But have since had 2 ultrasounds of the area and my doctor can't even find my right ovary. Only the left. Strange but he says not to worry. I have a question. Was your friend getting her pap smears done? I'm sorry you had to go thru losing someone like this😢... ❤
@@ClaireNicole33 No she wouldn't get her yearly exams because she was afraid of the results. The doctor's think she went in remission for a while before the cancer spread with a vengeance. I had a dermoid cyst 2 inches big removed that was encapsulating and crushing my ovary. I hope the doctors can find the source of your pain.
My wife had the same stabbing pain. As she was growing up she would tell the doctors and they would pretty much ignore her. She dealt with this pain until she was 40 years old. Always mentioning this pain she had to each Doctor. No one found a thing or took it seriously, as usual. At 41 years old, my wife was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. It started in her uterus. My wife passed away at 43 years old. No one listened to her.
A friend of mine was diagnosed with ovarian cancer on her 21st birthday. She had both ovaries removed within a few weeks, chemeo and the whole shebang. It’s been almost 15 years since she was diagnosed and here she is, still fighting everyday.
Is your friend alright now? I hope she's doing well. Literally the same is happening with me rn.. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer a month ago and went on with total hysterectomy after a week of diagnosis on my 21st birthday.. my 1st chemo is next week and I'm really scared.. Can you please give me her contact mail or phone number.. I really need help
@@angelenethomas5692 I will pray for your recovery, wishing you all the very best. I'm also going to see the doctor soon since i'm having these symptoms since and long time but never went to see a doctor cause of some family problems.
Doctors NEED to start listening to women. STOP telling us our pain doesn't matter. STOP telling us "it's all in our head." Even female doctors dismiss their female patients and don't listen to us!!! My PCOS has been misdiagnosed for 20 years and now I'm having surgery for it in 2 weeks because my ovaries are enlarged. Doctors, get off your freaking high horses and do your damn jobs better. Start by listening!
It will be a huge improvement when robots replace doctors, you'll finally get a proper diagnosis. At this point google is a better diagnostician than your average doctor. They're simply trained to pass out pharmaceuticals in med school now cuz they're paid drug pushers for Big Pharma..
@@Србомбоница86 historically speaking, i can honestly say that women’s issues are more frequently ignored or discounted by medical professionals than men’s issues. I’m a medical assistant in the OB/GYN I have worked with numerous Doctors, and if YOU EVER FEEL LIKE YOUR VISIT DID NOT GO WELL and the N.P. Or Doctor was not understanding book an appointment with a different doctor! I consider myself a patient advocate and always make sure the patients I have are satisfied with their visit, if not I always tell them to book a appointment with a different doctor!
Most OBGYN offices will not allow you to change to another dr within their group. So it's not as easy as saying next dr please. It's changing offices and all that goes with records being transferred, etc. I agree though... go to another dr.
My granddaughter was diagnosed at 8 years old of germ cell ovarian cancer. She went thru every treatment available. She was a great fighter and never wanted to give up. The doctors gave up on her. She passed away in Nov. of 2021. She fought for 13 years. RIP my sweet angel Emily.
I’m 19 and just had a laparotomy done two weeks ago. I had bloating and gained 10 pounds a few monthes back. My weight had always stayed consistent but I thought the weight gain was normal due to quarantine. My stomach looked like I was pregnant. So we went to the doctors and they told me it was my eating habits and constipation. I had that diagnosis for three monthes. Until my mom pushed for an ultrasound. They found a teratoma the size of a small watermelon at 20 cm. It was benign and I’m recovering from surgery. Always push for your health and if they don’t listen find another doctor that will!!
I'm 18 years old and suffering from the same symptoms(left side abdominal pain). Also, sometimes, I feel like a frequent need to urinate. I'm soo worried. :(
My mom went through the same thing.. they told her she had fibroids.. but it wasn’t.. she has been having pain for a while.. she did exactly the same thing and found out she had stage 4 ovarian cancer.. it’s was devastating experience.. she has been cancer free for 10 years now!
This whole case is sad. All the initial doctors involved in her care were lackadaisical. Why tell her this devastating news OVER the phone? Especially after not knowing 💩
It took an entire year for me to be diagnosed with endometrial cancer. I feel so blessed to have a doctor who believed me when I said I had pain. She kept doing tests, she kept asking questions until we finally found it. She was such a blessing to me and was there for me emotionally. I’m so thankful for doctors who don’t stop just because the tests say nothings wrong. I know your journey was hard and thank you for enlighten women. Don’t ever let a doctor tell you our pain is nothing to worry about. Be persistent.
We, as women, know our bodies! I had a benign tumor the size of a grapefruit on mine that was was dismissed for almost 6 mos bc of my age (25). I finally went to a different doctor who immediately requested an ultrasound followed by surgery. 3 years later I thought I had appendicitis. I was sent home saying it was a bladder infection. 2 weeks later when the pain got worse the surgeon said he thought it was "phantom pain" from my ovarian surgery. It was cancer in my appendix. LISTEN TO YOUR BODIES!

So so sorry for your loss. Let me tell you the night I read the Bible out loud for a few minutes is the night I went to bed with no neck pain. I'm a medical professional, I have worked in Pediatrics oncology before , seeing this stuff brings me to tears because nurses can't diagnose patients but we're the most hands on and I have seen so many misdiagnosis... This neglect has to stop . A lot of medicine doctors are in it for the money not for the care of humanity.
Great video and yes, no matter what age or how young, cancer doesn’t discriminate. I was diagnosed with Uterine Cancer at age 24. It can and it does happen so all women need to get their yearly OBGYN Pap and screening completed. I am sitting here cancer free, now age 42, and I can say “cancer is just something I went through, not something that defines me”. Thank you, Elle, for bringing further awareness.
why. they can never say for sure unless they run tests. that “probably” needs to be in their vocab so they don’t assume it’s something until it’s proven
If I go to a doctor and they say oh it’s probably nothing and don’t want to run tests and are not equally concerned about your health issue, I walk out the door and keep looking. Make sure you find a doctor who wants to get to the bottom of it and doesn’t downplay your symptoms. I trust my doctor and she has the same concern as I do. She will orders tests, ultrasounds, MRIs right away, she doesn’t mess around with her patients’ health.
I read somewhere if they dont do tests you make sure they write down in your papers that they did not do a test you asked them to do. You push them to write it down. I dont remember why, but yeah.
I cried with her to have cancer is just awful but to be so young how frightening. I wish her a full recovery and a long and happy life. I am so grateful for my health.
Sorry to let everybody know but eating eggs ham and pork Bologna bread milk I'm sorry but I did a study and all of these things give you cancer health not eating healthy gives you cancer chocolate gives you cancer milk gives you cancer
My story is very similar. The full and bloated stomach. Primary doctor and ER doctor not listening and calling it a cyst that will eventually go away. My blood levels were out of wack. Having surgery and having a very massive germ cell tumor that had spread to other areas, surgically removed. I was diagnosed with stage 3C ovarian-teratoma cancer. I’ve gone through several rounds of chemo and have had 5 surgeries but Today Life is Celebrated and I’m grateful I had my children before the age of 29. The journey was tough and is tough for many but if you just keep pushing and fighting through it, there will be sunshine coming through the dark clouds.
Same thing happened to me. My pediatrician told me I my stomach muscles weren’t tight???????? Anyway a year later I was diagnosed with a melon sized teratoma.
I had to go 4 years without preventative care when the recession came and my husband lost his family farming business. Many family farmers in our area went bankrupt. Because we had our old family homestead and a few acres left I couldn't qualify for any programs to get a free pap smear, pelvic exam or mammogram. One elderly man in our community said that he was told he had to sell his truck and cemetary plot to get government assistance. It angers me when people who don't need the help scam to get it and people who genuinely need it go through hell to get it.

It’s to cover their own asses honestly. If they say “may be cancer” people start freaking out and if the test comes back negative some people get mad like “ how dare you scare me like that” and try to sue.... I read a couple stories in the news. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer a few months ago and they were super vague when they talked to me so I already knew they suspected it they just didn’t want to tell me till they had the test as proof. I’m really good at reading people so I already knew even though everybody kept telling me not to get upset till the test confirmed it.
Thank you Amanda for sharing your story! My body was diagnosed December of 2017 with renal cancer. " There's life before cancer and after cancer" is my truth.
@Sarah, she should have said, 'uh, NO, get your ass to the hospital and look at the scan. Actually, the scan department could have emailed it to her office.
No. its not always to bill insurance. Sometimes its because providers are able to see the images. when you get reports from a provider they see the interpretation and not the images. Its sad all around and providers DO need to listen however its not always a billing issue
yaa a. Which is EASILY obtainable by having patient sign a release of information and the doctor contact medical records of the outside hospital. But that’s too much work and it’s more convenient to click a single button on your computer to order another set of imaging.
I am a 2-time cancer survivor. It sounds strange but cancer has made me my best self as well as emotionally and mentally strong. YOU are strong Amanda.

Her last comment was so important, " I wish my doctors would have listen to me sooner, but I also wish I was more aggressive." I can totally relate. My experience made me realize to listen to my body telling me something IS wrong, and not go by what doctors are saying. When it comes to your health you have to be your biggest advocate. Amanda, keep fighting the good fight!
I was just diagnosed with PCOS and diabetes at 26yo, BMI 28, which is not skinny by any means but is also not obese. I had to HOUND and pressure doctors so bad for like two years to finally get a diagnosis of why I was feeling shit all the time. I hate doctors.
It says a lot about our medical system that her concerns were repeatedly and routinely ignored or played down. That ER doctor and her decision to go to the ER saved her life. Women are too often dismissed about their health concerns. "Oh you just need to lose some weight." "Oh that's just the way women's bodies are." They have put so little in to the study of a woman's body that they don't even know what to look for when it comes to something serious. They treat our bodies like a magical mystery. "Haha yeah we don't know why it does that but it does haha."
I hate it so much!!! For even female doc/gynecologist to be saying that to u is irritating then they be like ur gonna be fine blah blah when things get worse..we all need to jus eat healthy to help keep these sicknesses away from us
I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer at age of 12. (Now 22) I had a 10lb tumor on my left ovary that somehow all my pediatric doctors missed. My symptoms included: - excruciating abdominal pain during menstrual cycles - heavy bleeding -fatigue -constantly feeling bloated - bowel issues, constipation - my menstrual blood had a smell as well (Sorry TMI) Symptoms are very similar to pains during menstrual cycle. If you feel that something is wrong. Keep pushing until you find answers!
This is appalling. Even as a nurse I have had doctors give me diagnosis of IBS for almost no reason. Ridiculous that none of these doctors are listening to ANY of us.
This is actually quite common. All the female gynos I've had were very cold and irritated with any questions I had. Male gynos were very warm and reassuring.

I am 40 years old and am currently going through the same. Everything you are describing is exactly how I feel. Just over a year ago I had to spend 3 days in the hospital for severe pelvic pains. Since then I have gone through so many medications and testings....lupron, gabbapentin, high dosage penicillin, ultrasounds, ct scans, xrays...nothing helped. I have a complex cyst but nothing done about that yet. Now after a year my doctor wants me to go see an oncologist. I have so many other symptoms and I know something isn't right. We have to advocate for ourselves. I feel like nobody is hearing me. Thank you for the video and I wish you the best xo
I'm a RN & the pain or condition you just always had is what ends up killing you. When a patient tells me its always just there or I have had it for years I know we need to check it out ASAP. My dad had lower back pain for years. Drs said its his job or the train accident he was in. He passed away in July with Stage 4 metastatic spine cancer.
We have to be our own patient advocate. I was told I had melanoma, after having surgery which left me incapacitated for a few months and 2 scars I was told they found no cancer. Then the wound was not healing so dr told me he may have to amputate. I removed bandages and it started healing and was healed within 2 weeks. I kept telling the dr all the wound needed was oxygen to heal. Most doctors are greedy. Thanks for sharing this video and God bless!
The exact same thing happened to me at 38. Watching this was incredibly difficult because she touched on a lot of things people who haven’t been through it can never understand.
It is SO important to listen to your body. I had a similar experience with a ovarian cyst that was the size of a small melon and weighed 3 pounds. I had been complaining about a heaviness in my lower abdomen and sharp pain during intercourse for several years to 5 different doctors. Not one suggested an ultrasound. Every one explained it away. Finally, one night I couldn't urinate and that lasted for two days until I finally drove myself to the ER. While in the ER they discovered the cyst. I had a catheter inserted and was sent home with a referral for oncology. After a few tests it was determined that my cyst was not cancerous, but I had to have a partial hysterectomy. I have my ovaries, but no uterus. I know much of what you have gone through minus the chemotherapy. You are correct about the advise of listening to our body! Please ladies do not ignore your gut feeling. Keep asking for what you need until you get what you need. I'm glad we both survived and hope our stories will fortify others to take their health seriously. We are the captain of our ship! Never forget that fact! Thank you for sharing your story.
Similar story. I kept advocating for myself. ER first round benign. 2 years later ER visit again, ruptured cyst (10cm), which I was in pre op stage, and they told me the same thing, "oh it will dissolve on itself". .. I said nope give me another laparoscopy. Long story short it was stage 1C ovarian cancer. 6 rounds of chemo. 5 years in remission as of now 🙏.
Thank you for sharing. I’m one year in with no answer but they haven’t even ordered one test. :( they keep saying I’m healthy and fine. I’m 38, gained 30 lbs in one year (I’ve only done this once when I was pregnant) something is definitely not right and this came up through my RUclips this morning. I’m taking it as a sign and will find answers. Thank you again, your story is sure to save someone 💙
I had a similar pain and went to the ER and the doctor played it down and said it was an endometrial stripe and fibroids. I had to BEG for testing. The doctors always play down women’s pain and it s frustrating!!!
My gyno just called me today and told me more fibroids have grown on my ovaries. From what they say fibroids are non cancerous. Due to my age and not having children I'm prone to get them. Can fibroids be tested? Should I ask her to get them tested if they can be? Idk what to do because she says its a lot of them.
@@aleakitty I went to my gyno for severe lower pelvic pain. She ordered an ultrasound. The results came back that I have even more fibroids that have grown on my uterus than the few I had before. IDK what to do she wants to see me back in the office. They say they are non cancerous.
@@Purppusay hi. I had surgery on November 2018 (a year and 3 months ago) i had over 50 fibroids removed and a cyst. I would be really upset if they came back so fast. 🤦🏾 i have my annual coming up so I'll have to see. Smh
This is incredibly similar to my story. My "cyst" is also 13cm, saw a gyno and a specialist, I'm waiting for my oncology appointment now, but keep getting told it's nothing serious, and I think it's because of my age (I'm 27). It must be serious if I'm seeing an oncologist! You've given me hope and strength to know I can kill this just like you did. 💪
Karlie Marshall You are 100% correct about doctors factoring age. I was told by a former gyn that “it’s probably just pcos and it will resolve itself.” My primary care doctor was floored by this response and referred me to another gynecologist. Then he gave me a firm lecture of not sticking with doctors that don’t listen to my concerns. His exact words were, “It is pure laziness and unprofessional for a doctor to make a diagnosis without testing. If a doctor sends you away without testing with an issue unresolved, never go back there.” When you’re under 50 years old and you have cancer it is considered rare but rare does not mean impossible.
Karlie Marshall, i went for a fertility screening today and there was a 10cm cyst on my right ovary and 5cm on my left. The right looks ‘fine’, but they are concerned about the left. I’m 32 and desperate for a baby. I’m terrified, but, if I’ve got to fight this, I guess I’ve got to fight this. Sending love to everyone going through something similar. 💪🏼
What a brave and beautiful woman. I’ve been putting off a long overdue gynecologist appointment. I’m going to call first thing tomorrow. I am so grateful to her for sharing her story.
I was 64 when it ended for me. I've been overweight most of my life and I'm short. I started my period when I was 15, had a baby at 16 and from then on always had a really heavy period; think wearing 3or 4 heavy days or overnight pads for years. Then one day after I'd gotten out of a nursing home for a non-related incident I started spotting again. Been home 3 or 4 months after Christmas and I started bleeding very badly even worse than a regular one I was used to having. I bled down to a 3 volume of blood maybe just enough to allow my heart to beat. My husband called the ambulance because I was too pale and I hurt all over. I had a DNC and a appointment was made for me to an oncologist. Had a complete hysterectomy on 9/11/18. Lived for two weeks depressed and on edge. I had cancer but it was all removed. Didn't have to have chemo. Coming up on 2 years but, my heart meds made me lose most of my hair on top of my head. I have CHF with a side of AFib. Still dying but DAMN I enjoy everyday with my husband and Lab Sadie. You'll get there. And the hair meant nothing, it was that beautiful survivor staring back at you in the mirror.
Thank you for posting this. I needed to see this, I go in next week to have my ovary removed. They did the same bullshit to me as they did to this girl. The one recommendation I can give to anyone, is being an advocate for your own health care. If you think something is wrong Don’t Stop! I also have lupus which took them 12 years to diagnose. I flatlined in the hospital elevator and still they were like oh you’re fine. I never stopped fighting and I’m here today. Next week‘s going to be just another challenge that I will get through. If you’re reading this and you’re suffering from a physical health problem or a mental health problem Please know you’re not alone

When I was in college I didn’t have insurance and I went to the clinic at my college complaining of sharp pain in my lower stomach. The doctor ran some blood test, palpated my stomach and told me it’s probably my intestines digesting food. Problem is I believed her and lived the next five years ignoring ny pain. Eventually I went to the doctor again and told them something is wrong. As soon as they did the ultrasound you could see the 13 cm dermoid cyst and I was scheduled for surgery. I am so thankful it was benign but that first doctor made it so I stopped listening to my body. Listen 👂🏼 and don’t take it’s nothing for an answer.
Same thing happened to me. My doctor just told me to do more core exercises when I complained my waist was expanding for no reason. I changed doctors and she ordered an ultrasound that revealed an 11 cm cyst.
It took me about 3 years of solid research, several doctor's appointments, various MRI's and ultrasounds to FINALLY find a doctor to identify with my pain, understand, listen, recommend and go through with it. Thankfully I wasn't in a situation where my condition gave me a very short while to live. I tell ya..... some of these doctors today you have to wonder. What med school did you go to? Terrible. Glad you survived and so many others will have the strength to hang on and trust themselves.
Girl you are so strong. An inspiration to all of us. Through all those scary time of not having the right diagnosis and not getting the right feedback, you stood strongly. Truly said, nothing is more valuable than health.
I had to go to the emergency room twice because no one believed me. The pain was unbearable! I stopped eating, and I started to look pregnant. It turned out I had ovarian cancer. It was the size of a watermelon. Glad to say I've been in remission for 3 years.
I got my first ultrasound at 29.. Just a chocolate cyst (endometriosis).. Second ultrasound at 30.. "nothing but dermoid cysts".. Third ultrasound like a month later.. "a dermoid cyst and a chocolate cyst".. A fourth ultrasound "both could be chocolate cysts or maybe the other one is a dermoid cyst, you need to get a scan..".. Well on the 13th they will check what's going on.. Fck the last 14 months have been exhausting.. 4 different doctors.. I still don't know
TheInternet Sucks same, I’m 24, haven’t seen a gynecologist and I’m waiting for them to call me to make an actual appointment. I had a ruptured cyst recently and my doctors didn’t even tell me. I’ve lost so much weight and I’m always bloated. None of the doctors know what’s wrong with me.
Good video. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer 10 yrs after it started showing on mammograms. She was 78. They told her it was nothing, then something small, then in 23 lymph nodes and cant treat. She fought for aggressive treatment, 7 mos of chemo and radiation. They said it will come back and wont treat a second time. She did treatment and it never came back. She lived to 93 and was still working out at gym 2 days before she passed. I'm glad you pushed for answers. It reminds me to get to my own physical and colonoscopy cuz my insurance messed that up last year.
Always Always Always l push forward in your medical care if you feel something’s wrong even though Dr’s are telling you you’re fine! - Routine blood test, my platelet level is low - Family Dr tells me not to worry - A second Dr agrees - you are fine - Another blood test, platelets are even lower - Dr says it’s not low enough to worry about - I get home and email her - I feel something’s wrong, I want to see an Oncologist - The Oncologist tells me he sure it’s nothing to worry about - He ordered an ultrasound anyway - I got the phone call from him that evening - Splenic Marginal B Cell Lymphoma - stage 4 - already in the bone marrow- NEVER settle for ‘I’m sure nothing’s wrong!
When it comes to your health and your gut feeling, always, always, ALWAYS get as many opinions as you can. Drs tend not to beleive patients. I almost died 3 weeks after giving birth. I went to several drs and the er and they all said I was just having anxitey... turns out I had congestive heart failure..I almost died the drs couldnt figure out how a 28 year old could have CHF. I fought for my life and was in ICU, hooked up to every machine, they had taken so much fluid from my lungs and told my husband and family I would've died if I hadn't come in to the er that day, but I still had a 50/50 chance. Ironically that same staff made me take 2 valiums to help with my anxiety since I had just given birth 🤦♀️... I knew that after taking those valiums i had to fight to keep myself a wake or else they would walk back in and find me dead. So always always get a 2nd or 3rd or 10th opinion. Don't ever give up on yourself or loved ones, fight for your health.
I was not quite 21 years when my baby was born at 32 weeks, unfortunately she died soon afterwards. I was so ill that I couldn’t move, I was vomiting, my head and chest were always pounding, my Doctor insisted it was ‘just’ grief. I too had congestive heart failure and a post partum infection that almost killed me.
She’s so intelligent and I’m so pleased for her progress. She’s so young to go through that type of cancer and for every medical professional to not believe her it’s frustrating. I’m so proud of her for sharing her story.
I lost my mom from this cancer 5 years now. Drs didn’t believe her when she kept telling them she felt something was wrong..by the time she was diagnosed, it was already too late. She died a year later.
One thing ive learnt during illness is that you have to be your advocate. If you feel you are not being listened to, then speak up for yourself. You are the only one who has your own back so to speak.
Sitting here and watching this on the 3rd day after my surgery. I find it amazing that ever since my diagnosis, I am finding all these sorts of videos! Proud of you!
U have to be aggressive with the medical field because some doctors especially e.r doctors are overwhelmed with patients that its hard for them to really give each patient thorough time to actually listen to their concern theyre quick to run a test or two and if they dont see anything send u on your way yet youre left with unexplainable pain or cause for concern and some try to make it seem as if its all in your head hell no like she said u know your body dont let doctors pass u by speak up and out if need be they dont care about your health like u care about your health
They really should better care for patients, though. One girl (age 5), said her head hurt, constantly. Her parents thought she was just tired, so they ignored it. So, they took her to the E.R., only to say nothing was wrong. A few days later, she just fainted. Then, after going to hospital after hospital, they found out she had brain cancer. It could be more serious than doctors realize! They shouldn't go ignoring complaints.
Shimmer ER doctors are for medical emergencies. If the child was having persistent headaches, a chronic ailment, then she should have been sent to a neurologist.
You know your body more then someone, so the last word need to be your word, not the dr. He try to help you, but you need be insistent with your issue.
This is so scary for me. I've had pain in my lower right side for months, now. I was just told today by my gynecologist that it was just a normal cyst and it will go away with birth control... I hope it will, because having the same result this young lady had scares me to death.
I hope you went to get a scan & go get a second opinion. This your lady shared her story so others are aware of her experiences so others don’t suffer like she did, Insist on a scan & get blood work done up.
Have they actually done tests to confirm it's a cyst? Because they need to establish that. Also if it is a cyst but it's on the bigger side you can have it removed.
On my third scan today for this same same stabbing in lower right side for over a year. Keep checking. Even scans months apart change and something can show up. Listen to your body. Hope its okay for us❤.
In my case i have no symptoms, didn't feel any pain. I just knew i have it when i had an ultra sound for my kidney. . It was a bilateral and measured 4.5 cm for my left ovary and 5.2 cm for my right ovary. I was operated after 2 months and the Dr. removed my 2 ovaries together with my uterus and appendix. It happened 8 years ago and i'm still surviving with God's blessings. Praise the Lord!
I had the exact same cancer when I was 17! I have never come across anyone who also had a germ cell form of ovarian cancer. Thanks for sharing your story!!
My grandmother died from this at age 53 back in 1985. I'm so glad that women are more in tuned with their bodies today. My grandmother had been told that she was just "constipated," because she had IBS. DOCTORS didn't listen to her until it was too late.
Younger people, although rare, can get cancer too. Performing cancer screening tests for it to come back negative is better than not performing any tests at all.
I was blown off by my doctor too, for a year, and he blew me off again..long story short: I had breast cancer...had I not persisted, I'd probably be dead...instead I'm a 29 year breast cancer survivor. I ignored my gut instinct. DO NOT PUT YOUR FAITH IN THE DOCTOR. Mine failed me. He should have, when I presented with a lump in my breast ordered an ultrasound. I learned that after the fact. The reason he did not is b/c a month earlier I'd had a 'normal' mammogram..but I was 42 and had dense breast tissue, which means IF a tumor is sitting in dense tissue it may not show up....he also said 'you're young'..and he made the assumption lump I'd found was a fluid filled cyst and had the gall to lie to me and tell me that mammograms are definitive!!! I believed him...now I know better..at what cost?? Thankfully it did not cost me my life...but how many others will he fail???.....looking back I wish I'd sued him, but at the time I put all my energy to 'living'...I could not deal with more stress or anguish. There is no excusing this. and for the record, I had very good health insurance so the costs of test was not an issue, I was able to easily pay. Another factor, which I found out later, is that he'd characterized me as an anxious person: I discovered this when I got my records from him and went to a new doctor. AND I was a Christian whose husband was in ministry and that figured into it too...he discounted me b/c of it...at one point after I got the diagnosis, and asking many questions he told me to quit reading medical books and go home and read a romance novel. I wanted to punch him in the face. He was so d@mn condescending...I no longer take anything lying down from doctors....if I don't agree with them, I question them...they don't like it...I'm sure their notes say I am a difficult patient. Well, I am and they made me that way. Do not put your life in their hands. Listen to them, do your own research and insist on what you want from them and if they won't support your concerns, find a doctor who will.
Unfortunately that's more common than you could imagine. If you Google the # of deaths in America caused by doctor mistakes/malfunctions you will be shocked......
A doctor almost killed me when I was a baby for giving me the wrong meds and he unfortunately successfully killed 2 other babies before me. I can say he no longer practices in America.
Having family and friends who support and love you is the most important thing when going through something like this... Imagine going through this all alone
I have had an ovarian cyst on my right ovary for now 6 months. My gynecologist prescribed me birth control and said: see you in about 7 months. That was 2 months ago, and I’m still in extreme pain with horrible side effects. I called her and my next appointment is March 23. Praying for the best. Praying for you.
Thank God you and I survived this! Listening to your story was like listening to sound bites of my own life. I survived ovarian cancer TWICE! because I didn't allow the doctors to ignore me like I experienced in the past with my polyp and fibroid. WOMEN... they say ovarian cancer is a silent killer... IT ISN'T!!! LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!!! My breast were sore for months, I had stabbing pains in my lower abdomen and pressure on my bladder. I made an appointment when I finally couldn't make any more excuses up in my mind. I went to the doctor regularly. I had a pap just a short time before I made the apointment. I remember my doctor saying that my period would be coming soon based on what she saw during the exam. At my appointment, they told me it was kidney infection. They prescribed meds but the pain wouldn't stop. I went back to the urgent care and the doctor read my previous results and said I did not have an infection in my kidneys. He pushed down on my stomach and the pain was unbelievable. I had been telling my husband that the left side of my stomach looked bigger. But since I was overweight it probably looked the same way to him. I followed up with the gyno like the urgent care doctor suggested. I went to the same doctor that performed the surgery to remove my polyp and fibroid that took him months to find. But he had an opening and I desperately needed help. He said, don't worry, I'm sure you're fine. We looked at everything just 2 yrs ago and I didn't see anything. I insisted that he do a pelvic exam because I wasn't leaving until he did. So he performed the pelvic exam and he felt it right away. He said something is there! He ordered an ultrasound. I remember the tech putting the wand inside of me for about 3 seconds and then excusing herself to speak with the doctor. He sent me down stairs for blood work. I remember looking at the paperwork with the lab orders. It said 125 cancer screening. The test came back negative. When I returned upstairs to speak with the doctor, he said it's probably just a cyst. No need to worry. He will remove it and we will move on. Surgery came. Surgery ended. I just recall home walking into the room and saying IT WAS SO BIG!! After a month of Waiting on pathology reports, the doctor called. It was 8am on a Friday morning and he wanted me to come on the following Monday. There was no way I was gonna survive the weekend. I insisted that he tell he what was going on. He finally called back and told me that I "had" cancer but it was removed and I would be fine. I found out I had a rare ovarian cancer that only 5% of ovarian cancer patients get. It only returned 10% of the time! Just 10%!! The odds were against me becau se 1 yr later... CANCER WAS BACK!!!
Amanda, you've done a great service to humanity by sharing your story. I was also told my situation was probably benign. I identify with everything you said. Thanks for saying that you have to heal from chemo. People think once the chemo stops flowing, it's over. I had to advocate for myself on many occasions during my journey, and I still am. God bless!
my mom passed away when i was 5 years old in 1997.. she was 37 years old and she was in stage 4.. so ovarian cancer is very scary to me and should be taken more serious
I am so glad that you are alright now. Bless You, to shave your head was awesome, because that was your way of preparing to battle! When I was 24 I began feeling an unusual pain and pressure in my abdomen. My doctor said this “ oh you women and your imaginary pains”. So I went home believing I was okay. The pain and pressure in my abdomen grew worse as weeks passed. I was working full time and raising a child. Then one night the pain was sending me to a coma like condition . My sister came over and tried everything in her natural medical book to comfort me then took me to emergency next morning. I had an ectopic pregnancy and an ovarian cyst the size of a grapefruit. So Yes, listen to your body! Thank you for sharing this, you may have saved some lives. ❤️
Not having a doctor listen to you is the worst feeling. It’s so scary. It’s so frustrating.
so fed up with hearing about the dr saying to people that its nothing!!!
If you went to medical school and sat in one the classes and observed the culture you’d better understand why doctors behave the way they do - the culture in Med schools needs to change
I think that when a doctor doesn't listen you, you don't have to waste your time with it, change/search for a doctor that listen to you.
Even worse when they tell you “it’s all in your head”.
Robert Murie....I’m so sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter😔I pray that you and your family have found peace🌈❤️🕊
😥 There are seriously some stupid, stupid doctors out there.
My heart goes out to you and your Family Robert having lost your Daughter to an illness that should have been diagnosed earlier, truly heartbreaking.
So so sorry for your loss- the advice is to keep asking for help! Take care x
my father is still alive but he has stage 4 cancer now because of a doctor that told him it was nothing (he told youre too sensitive) he went back a year later to another doctor because he couldnt take the pain anymore and he discovered he had prostate cancer and it had already spread in all of his body
@@jonathonbritten6153 always get a second opinion, research and be active in your care dont leave it to doctor's
I am so sick of medical professionals ignoring their patients pain and worry.
Kay Bee ignoring the patient and making them feel bad for being in pain. Turning it into the patient overreacting!
I always preach get a 2nd, 3rd opinion, get some tests. My dad naively followed one dr andvtirnwd he had stag4 prostate cancer
Kay Bee KAISER
I've seen this first-hand. When I was 3, if my parents hadn't kept searching for answers, I would've died. I kept vomiting, sick, and poor balance. The doctor wouldn't do anything about it. He said it was a virus, but it was stage 4 cancer! If my parents hadn't of went to Children's Hospital, I wouldn't have made it. Moral of the story, please take patients seriously!
Fire your doctor. And find another one.
I'm going to be graduated soon . Ill make sure that I hear my patient's words before going for the diagnosis
Always make sure it's not a cancer !!the rest we will survive.
@@Nadya7990 sure. Will do my best !

Jude Knight How did you do that love to know thanks
Wow thats incredible, im glad u are still fighting through this. God bless.
Scary Hours Thanks for your kind words!
Give it a go people as the mind is the most powerful tool we have😊
Miri Am For your daughter:
Number one: NEVER GIVE UP HOPE - yes you are in a scary, vulnerable and dangerous position but you CAN come through it.
I am thinking of you my darling and sending you love and positive thoughts - I KNOW that you can beat this. x

Marley This is scary to know; here in the states we just assume the healthcare system in Canada is without flaws.
Don’t ever let a doctor tell you our pain is nothing to worry about. Be persistent.
What tests did you have? Was it not detected on regular ultrasounds?
We, as women, know our bodies! I had a benign tumor the size of a grapefruit on mine that was was dismissed for almost 6 mos bc of my age (25). I finally went to a different doctor who immediately requested an ultrasound followed by surgery. 3 years later I thought I had appendicitis. I was sent home saying it was a bladder infection. 2 weeks later when the pain got worse the surgeon said he thought it was "phantom pain" from my ovarian surgery. It was cancer in my appendix. Doctors need to take the word “probably” out of their vocabulary

Make sure you find a doctor who wants to get to the bottom of it and doesn’t downplay your symptoms. I trust my doctor and she has the same concern as I do. It says a lot about our medical system that her concerns were repeatedly and routinely ignored or played down. That ER doctor and her decision to go to the ER saved her life. Women are too often dismissed about their health concerns. "Oh you just need to lose some weight." "Oh that's just the way women's bodies are." I am 40 years old and am currently going through the same.
The helplessness you feel when a professional you trust with your health and your life ignores you or is incompetent, is incredibly devasting. 😭😌
Yeah, they're greedy. In this case, it would have cost you an arm and a leg!
The exact same thing happened to me at 38. Watching this was incredibly difficult because she touched on a lot of things people who haven’t been through it can never understand.
Hello 👋 how are you doing?

My gyno just called me today and told me more fibroids have grown on my ovaries. From what they say fibroids are non cancerous. Due to my age and not having children I'm prone to get them.
Please look into medical medium. Don't eat eggs. They feed the viruses that cause cysts to develop and grow. Many are healing. He has an instagram.

Best wishes! Keep on living your best life.

At age 40, I went to the doctor 3 times before I was finally diagnosed with Stage 3C Ovarian Cancer.
I lost my mother to this about 10 yrs ago now. I'm glad you're doing good!! Doctors missed it for her until she only had weeks left.
He try to help you, but you need be insistent with your issue.
they will also peg you as a problem and sick social services on you pretty easily so good luck with that
This is so scary for me. I've had pain in my lower right side for months, now. I was just told today by my gynecologist that it was just a normal cyst and it will go away with birth control... I hope it will, because having the same result this young lady had scares me to death.
Get A Second Opinion NOW!! Don't Wait!! 💫
Ask for a scan *immediately* , it’s non-invasive, quick and cheap. Demand it. Doctors don’t care, they won’t be the one in the coffin
On my third scan today for this same same stabbing in lower right side for over a year. Keep checking. Even scans months apart change and something can show up. Listen to your body. Hope its okay for us❤.
This is becoming the norm. Scary
Thank you for posting.
Hi can we please connect??
I had the exact same cancer when I was 17! I have never come across anyone who also had a germ cell form of ovarian cancer. Thanks for sharing your story!!
I wish her a happy and healthy life.
Listen to them, do your own research and insist on what you want from them and if they won't support your concerns, find a doctor who will.
m norton buswell yes, others need to know there’s a chance he may not be taking some of his patients seriously.
She’s a true inspiration for all the woman fighting against all sorts of ovarian problem ❤️
Sorry to hear that. What has been the outcome since then?
Any update?
How are you now!?
Find
It took me a while to finally get properly diagnosed with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Some doctors do not know what they are doing.
ChrisHasCancer plz share your story ! Wishing u good health !
Best wishes to you on your journey ❤
What were your symptoms
Many
Amanda, you've done a great service to humanity by sharing your story.
My mother had a so called flu for 5?months ? Possible TB? It was until she went to USC hospital , stage 4 lung cancer we lost her almost immediately 🥲
I had my cancer misdiagnosed as a mucous plug in the nasal area. I can relate to your misdiagnosis.
This breaks my heart. I literally cry to these people’s stories.
