I also love the Brooks Catamount 3 , the sidewalls are not as high as the Genesis but they also do a great job at holding my foot in place 🤙🏾

I was always told that stability on the trail doesn’t really make sense because the position of the foot upon landing keeps changing with each step. Is this not true?

Caldera 7 is another good one

Thanks for this video! I’ve been running in the Asics Trabuco alongside the GT2000 for road. The Trabuco is quite stable and a good partner to the GT. I’m keen to try the Genesis too

Just want to point out that my Nike Pegasus Trail 3 *feels* like it has medial stability, definitely feels supportive.

Love you guys but the Mtn Racer 3 was the most unstable trainer I’ve tried over the past few years. It completely makes me collapse my ankles in. Mtn racer 2 had a post, 3 certainly does not. Also - would love for your take on if stability shoes should even be a thing for trails? Undulating and constantly varied terrain should negate the need for stability shoes, no? I totally get it on the road because it is completely repetitive same motion.

Nike has had a so much negative reviews due to lack of traction on wet terrain. It's a shame because I love my Wildhorse 8 which has a medial arch support, great stability and max cushion React foam. I live in SoCal so wet traction is not necessary. Hopefully Nike can redeem themselves with the new Vibram outsole. That Ultrafly looks sick for race day. Maybe a review???

Slightly related question, but it's difficult to find reviews of shoes for road to trail.
I run in HK, super steep hills, mostly wet concrete (not mud) and it's difficult to find the right shoes.
Need stability, lightness, great grip, but more for road-style surface... And high breathability. Rain doesn't mean cold in Asia, on the contrary.
If you have any good picks, I'd love to hear.
Thinking about the Novablast TR, although the heel is a bit clunky on stairs

Interesting that you put the topo mtn racer 3 in the stability category. The mtn racer 3 (and a lot of other topo shoes) make my pronation much worse. I have the feeling it has something to do with the lateral sole flare. Can't explain why that happens. Brooks Divide 3 feels way more stable then the mtn racer 3.

I thought it was just me, I find the mid foot too narrow which makes my pronation worst as well.

Interesting. I thought i'm the only one. I don't think it is the narrow midfoot. Topo MT-5's midfoot platform is quite wide and my ankle cave in even while i'm standing. Anti-stability shoe for me :D. It's a shame that topos don't work. I have wide feet. Can't do zero drop (Altras) because they give me achilles problems. Any ideas, suggestions?

Great review ! La sportiva .Mutant is my go to for technical muddy hilly terrain up to half marathon. It's very stable, on the narrow side. It works with my insertional achilles issue. 10 mm drop may also be helping achilles.
