    Height 164 cm, weight 58 kg, regularly running on roads, approximately 25 km per week, with a mix of long-distance and interval training. Normal arch, some discomfort on the outer side of the right knee. Can you recommend suitable running shoes?

    I've been in the Specialty running shoe business for about 14 years & this video is the best I've seen [I'm a Running shoe geek & am always studying through reading or videos]
    Believe it or not over 50% of folks coming into a Specialty running shoe store are not runners [work, gym, walking or feet/knee/back pain. Great job sir on this video. Really impressed

    Thanks to provide the good information about selecting running shoes. I'm a new runner and just started 4 months ago, but I'm progressing a lot from time to time. Now I can run 13,5 km in pace 3/km. I'm also preparing for my first 10 K in December. As a new runner, I end up buying literally dozens of running shoes until I found 3-4 pairs that really suits me. Yes, finding the shoes that fit your running style, your pace, and your personal preference is sometimes not easy!

    • @PracticalHealthNow
      @PracticalHealthNow  Год назад +1

      Gauri, while I'm not an Achilles tendinopathy expert, my research suggests that stability shoes, motion control shoes, or rocker bottom shoes could be beneficial. Additionally, consider using a brace or support for Achilles tendonitis, such as compression ankle braces or sleeves. I hope this information proves helpful!

    For me the zero drop and barefoot running shoes were the way to go. I could not find any other way to remove knee pain than to change to forefoot gait. Absolutely love barefoot shoes now. Strange thing was that no shoe seller recommended them, they just tried to fiddle with many kinds of pronation supports and such, when the key was to strenghten the feet themselves by removing support by using minimalist shoes.

    • @PracticalHealthNow
      @PracticalHealthNow  Год назад +4

      Lauri, great to hear that barefoot shoes helped you! Though I want to highlight that sometimes simply changing running shoes solves the problems in knees and ankles. So, I am curious, if you go back to regular (but new) shoes, whether your knee pain will come back. Keep us posted!

    • @CitySwimmah
      @CitySwimmah Год назад +4

      Hi, thanks for the reply.
      Only new "conventional" shoes that I tried recently were the Asics gel nimbus 25 shoes since my brother with same shoe size got them. That 8mm drop does make my gait more heel striking. I did get numbness in the knee, but it came much later than before, suggesting that my knee supporting muscles have propably strenghtened.
      There probably was a way to fix my knees with strength training. but since the 0-drop shoes transition the shock absorption more to the calves, I never felt the need to go back. I also love the ability to feel the ground below my feet. Those max cushion shoes felt somewhat unstable and thus uncomfortable, but I do understand that some people like that sense of walking in the clouds.

    • @Jaigarful
      @Jaigarful Год назад +5

      Yeah I recently moved from 8mm drop shoes down to 0 and 4mm (Altra Torin 6 and Saucony Kinvara Wides), and I got a little bit more ankle pain. But its only been a week and there's definitely an adjustment period. I definitely prefer how I land with 0mm drop, and the difference in gait becomes far more noticeable on faster runs.

    • @asyncdef2413
      @asyncdef2413 8 месяцев назад +2

      Used to get joint pain all the time with my Brooks Ghosts all the time, then switched to a basic pair of Xero trainers that I run on pavement and trail - now running 5ks 4 times a week with a 15 mile trail run at least once a month with no joint pain whatsoever. Just for kicks I tried the Altra Escalante 3’s for a pavement run and couldn’t make it 2 miles without severe pain in my joints and especially toes. Barefoot shoes saved running for me.

    I was surprised that the list of running shoes has been updated cause there's a lot of new shoes launching every year. I recently bought a Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash 2 (such a big name) for my tempo runs, but I was afraid of the aggressive geometry and the lack of drop. Hopefully, it won't hurt my heels.

    • @PracticalHealthNow

      I've been trying to regularly update the list, and it's becoming increasingly challenging with the constant influx of fantastic shoes each year. I found out recently that I land on my forefoot. I also have/had stubborn forefoot calluses causing me a lot of pain. I actually stopped running at one point because it hurt too much to run. I've ground down the calluses but due to my running form I realize that I need running shoes with little to no drop. I decided to wear out my current shoes (10mm drop) as much as possible before getting new ones over the holidays. So far I've been able to keep running but my feet are not 100% pain free and probably won't be until I upgrade to new shoes with minimal drop.

    Did I understand correctly? Do lightweight shoes extend recovery days?

    • @PracticalHealthNow
      @PracticalHealthNow  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, exactly, Sevval! Lightweight shoes will help you show better running time, but your post-run recovery will be longer.
