Love the video, and it's helped me choose what lens to purchase with the Sony A7RV. I was seriously considering paying the extra for the Sony GMII - but no more, thank you. And to show my appreciation, I'm putting a little smile on your face by subscribing to your channel. 🙂
I ran across your video looking into the 20mm sony 1.8 and the sigma 24-70 2.8. I just got the sigma and I have a 20mm on the way. I sold my 24-105 f4 and 16-35 f4 (I feel like I am following you on your lens choices) - but I am glad to see that you seem happy with the sigma 24-70. I don't feel like the lens stabilization in the 24-105 was that much more helpful when on my a7s3 and using the active ibis. But I worry that I am going to miss that extra reach of the 105. Do you feel that you miss the extra reach? Anyway, I enjoyed the video and made me feel good about the choices I have made with lenses. Thank you for the video.
Thank you 😊, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I don’t miss the reach as much much as I would miss not having f2.8. It’s all about compromise and what you feel is more important for you. To me 70mm is fine and works well for a lot of what I do. The f2.8 is just far more advantageous for me. I hope that helps and I hope you enjoy it!
Wow, amazingly well done video, can you make more please? Solid content and well spoken to provide product reviews. Love the B-rolls and the timed cuts, kept me entertained every minute of the video.
Hmm, well I haven't owned the Sony 24-105 but have had them in the past for other camera systems as they've always been the most affordable decent zoom lens. However having bitten the bullet an finally got my hands on a 2.8 zoom, hands down the Sigma 24-70 2.8. It is just so nice having the extra stop of light and much nicer bokeh.
hey! at 06:30 you say Sigma 24 - 70 doesnt have image stabilization! But the sigma instruction says that it has image stabilization inside the lens ... can you please explain what you meant?
Hmmm where did you read that it has image stabilisation in the lens itself? As far as I am aware it doesn’t and the only stabilisation you would get would be from the camera body.
The Canon EF version of this lens has image stabilization - that might be what you are thinking. Don’t think the Sony version has it since Sony has IBIS and the older Canon EF mount cameras didn’t. I’m using the EF version adapted onto my EOS R with great results.
That’s a tough one because this video was made before this lens was released and I haven’t used the gm ii yet. The gm ii appears to offer some great upgrades that now compare to the Sigma and even perhaps surpass it, but it’s still twice the cost. So I would say you would be very happy with either choice, it’s all dependant on cost. Put it this way, if money were no object I would get the gm ii. I hope that helps 😊
What about rain getting inside? I heard it is struggle to shoot in rain, but G master holds up really good as it is wetaher seal and dust proof is miles ahead
I haven’t tested it fully, but when I was shooting the clips in this video in Wales it was torrential rainfall, and although I was still very careful it did get wet and it hasn’t caused any damage. It is weather sealed, so it should hold up well, but I’m not one to test the weather sealing on any camera or lens 😂
I was also thinking of getting the 24-105 g as it’s a really nice lens and has great versatility like you say. It’s a hard choice to make but I’m glad I went for the 2.8, it makes quite a big difference in my opinion. Good luck with whatever decision you make, and enjoy shooting!
There are some nutty people in this comment section, haha. Anyway, appreciate your perspective on this as I’m currently leaning towards the sigma as well.
Ha! Thanks for the support! I'm glad it was useful! However having had the lens for well over a year now I do need to say there is quite a bit of lens creep, so if you're doing top down shots it's a bit irritating. Other than that I love this lens!
This lens honestly never leaves my camera and I use it for most of my professional use for both video and photography. The quality is outstanding in my opinion. So is it worth $800, yes it is. Is it flawless, no, no lens is. My biggest flaw having used this lens quite extensively since this video was made is the lens creep. When doing any top down shots, the lens does creep which can be annoying at times, but this is a small part of what I do. If I had the money I would now choose the GM MK2 (not the MK1), but that is still double the cost and the Sigma is outstanding for the price point. I hope that helps!
@@TheCreatorsBlock what you mean by creep? well i'm not doing no serious photography but i like to take certain pictures of certain things but i like taking pictures of my family that's the whole reason why i bought the canon 80d i will go full frame one day but that price have to drop lol but i will get this lens
Lens creep is when the barrel extends on its own when held vertically. It's not a big deal, just a little annoying if you want to do top down shots on a tripod, you need to just hold the lens in place. It's common on a lot of extending zoom lenses, just some are worse than others. Ah ok well this lens I have is for Sony, which is a mirrorless system. Canon 80d is a DSLR so I'm not sure Sigma will do this lens for the EF mount for Canon. There could be a similar one but I don't know it unfortunately. Unless you mean you will buy this lens when you upgrade your camera?
Yes that's true but this lens is a FE lens for Sony. They do make it for other camera systems and just a quick Google and the one you're after is the Sigma 24-70 DG OS HSM Art EF Lens for Canon. I would imagine it would have similar performance to the one in this video, but perhaps watch some other videos for the canon mount version and see if it's as good.
I bought the same lens and it's useless with my A7S III because they do not communicate as far as image stabilization. Zero stabilization in Active mode. Very disappointed. The lens is awesome except for that important point. I bought a Ronin DJI S, but not even sure that will do the trick. The new Sony 35mm prime is sick, I may just go with that for video.
@@OfficeofthePacific hmmm you may have a dodgy lens. I’ve never had a problem with IS or AF with this lens and the A7S3. Had them both for more than 3 years now. No issues at all.
It is twice the cost, but I would agree 👍 The MK2 wasn't out during this review and wouldn't say the MK1 was worth the extra cost. But the MK2 I would say if you can stretch to it, I would. SIGMA is still awesome for the price though.
Why lie a lens down on a rough stone wall? Don't you look after your gear? And why don't you compare eye AF between the sigma and GM. On the A7S3 best eye AF ought to be the deal breaker.

I'm glad you found the video useful! Enjoy your new combo 😊
Thank You, actually this is also my debacle with my lens selection. Thank You.
Back on track... So funny 😂 ty so much for the video dude
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it 😂
Haha awesome video bro! Thanks for all info!
Thanks man! Much appreciated! Glad it was helpful! 😊

Owning a73 , which do you suggest for day to day video shooting : Sigma 24 70 2.8 or Sony 24 105 oss ?

Great lens for sure. Glad to have it in my kit! Thanks for sharing
Yes it’s very versatile and pretty much goes everywhere with me!
good video, just got this lens for the a7iv. can’t wait to pair them up soon 🔥
Thank you 😊
Very nice! I’m looking to get the a7iv at some point as a second camera. Just need the funds 😂
Mee too
Is that Portmeirion, where "The Prisoner" was filmed?
It is indeed! 😊

24-70 2.8 dg or 24-70 2.8 gm ii
Which is best for wedding videography or photography

Sony GMII 24 70...for an intimate wedding maybe the only lens you need.

Great video thanks! How do you compensate for large aperture (e.g.2.8) in bright sunlight or other bright light - using an ND filter?
Thank you 🙏 😊
Yes I use a Variable ND, which are a bit annoying at times but they do the trick!
Great video! Thanks 🙏🏻
Thank you! 😊
which is your photo camera?
At the moment the a7siii is my only camera. I plan to buy the a7iv at some point when I can afford it which will then become my photo camera.
Nice🌿
Your video is the best
I'm from INDONESIAN✅
Tamrom 17-70 or siggma 28-70????
Hmm I think that's an apsc lens so it doesn't really compare to the full frame of the Sigma I'm afraid.
What kind of brand satchel is this?
Ha! It's a Crumpler Muffin Top 4000! 😂
I purchased the sony 24-105 f4 due to the versatility, but I wish it was a f2.8 or less. This lens maybe replacing the g lens I have.

I did mention the dust briefly and that I’ve not experienced any issues yet. So it’s not a problem yet 🙂
