- The rumors and reports surrounding Pac-12 expansion continue to circulate, with Memphis reportedly being the key target for the league. What would stop the Tigers from going to the Pac-12 along with Tulane, South Florida, and possibly UTSA?
On today's episode of Locked On College Football, Spencer McLaughlin reacts to some of the most impactful results from Week 4. TCU is reminding us of LSU from 2023, while Kansas State fans should NOT bail on their team's Big 12 title hopes. 9:15
Auburn had arguably the most disappointing performance of any team in the SEC. Meanwhile, the Vols have proven themselves an SEC title contender with Texas, Georgia, and Alabama. 20:23

For the Pac12, I think they should agree to a neutral site instead of cross-country travel. Like Arlington Texas where the Dallas Cowboys play. Also, I think the 10th team should be UNLV despite it's losing history. A lot of Tulane and Memphis fans have been excited at the prospect of playing in Vegas should UNLV get added to the Pac12. And Vegas is a market we want as it's becoming a huge sports market. Imagine flying into Vegas from South Florida to play UNLV on Saturday, and staying through Sunday to catch an NFL or potential NBA game. I would also add Cal and Stanford because the ACC contracts they have mean they only get 30% revenue over the next 7 years. That will bring the total team count to 12.
A couple of points:
1: Cal and Stanford are not going to a poor academic conference and share research $ and for less $ (even to save on travel).
2: It is strange that the PAC chose CSU > UNLV. It makes you wonder if UNLV said NO and will choose the AAC with AFA, or even end up in the Big XII. I know there are those who talked about a “Wolfpack Backpack” ( Nevada-Reno) as a reason for not taking UNLV but Jon Wilner dismissed that.
they are not going to be able to fill up that stadium with those teams.
@@EyeOfTheWatcher Yeah but it's a good mid-point between Miami and Pullman or Corvallis.
I, heard USF is not going to the Pac 12. Regardless, if Memphis goes or not.
So, if USF stays and Memphis and Tulane go. Does the Pac 12 take UTSA and UNLV.
That, would make it a 10 team conference. Which, would be great.
I’d take UNLV in any circumstance. Adding UNLV, Memphis and Tulane gives you nine, so I think you’d stop there and go into watch mode with the ACC. I do expect the GOR to get pushed to an early expiration and for Stanford to get into the Big Ten. Cal back to the PAC12 once the GOR is out of the way makes a lot of sense, unless you promote the wrong G5s.
That’s all about the stupid off field stuff like brand value and prestige. Unfortunate, but that is the way it is.
Memphis announced its a no for them as well as UTSA, Tulane, & USF
Link?
I know that college gameday is going to Georgia-Alabama and who is to argue with that one. Would it be possible to make the case that Washington St-Boise St is the second most exciting and second most import game on Saturday September 28th? If not second, where would you rank Washington St-Boise St in importance of games this weekend? Also, would it be possible for both Washington St and Boise St to make the playoffs regardless of who wins or would Washington St and Boise St both need to be 11-1 for both to make the playoffs, which means Boise St would need to win on Saturday?
If I am USF I am NOT going to the PAC. Why?
1: I don’t want to be on a UCF type island.
2:,I want to see what happens with the ACC. If there is a deal ending the GOR in 2030, the ACC could lose BOTH FSU & Miami, which knocks them out of Florida. Why not wait to see what happens?
A different thought: would it do the Pac any good to have the same large exit fees as the Mountain West and AAC?
Maybe not.
Memphis and Tulane joining the PAC-12 wouldn’t be too out of left field given all the recent realignments.
The PAC had no tv deal.
It was being put out that teams 'could be' offered between $12 and $15 million in a tv deal. That would be the biggest of the G5 conference tv revenues.
Currently, the AAC receives $8 million per school, which is lots more than any of the other G5 conferences.
The problem is, the PAC did not have a tv deal in hand when it started sending out invites. So when Memphis asked how much money it would recieve...the PAC couldn't answer...because there was no tv deal.
Without schools like Memphis, Tulane, UTSA, and USF joining...the PAC would be the MWC 2.0...with Boise State as its strongest team. (They had wanted to create a 'best of the rest' type of conference with the strongest G5 teams)The AAC tv deal that we currently have...gets us more tv viewership and pays us more than any other G5 conference...proven by the fact that since 2017, the AAC champion has been the G5 representative in the NY6 bowl games. Memphis was in on several of those hunts...we couldn't get past UCF several times.
Right now...every AAC school receives more than the PAC schools will be getting from tv. When the MWC refugees realize they've been had...don't be surprised if they try to go back to the MWC.
Instead of Memphis/Tulane/USF NIU has beaten 12 P4/5 conference schools since 2010 including Fresno/BYU/Kansas/Iowa/Mn/NW/Purdue/ND/BC/GT & next wk NCST. Can’t imagine any other non P4/5 team with more wins over P4/5 programs
NIU would be a great addition. Throw in Toledo and now we're talkin'.
That is a really big joke.
NIU has 14 or 15 wins over P5 name opponents. Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa, Iowa State, Purdue, Northwestern, Alabama, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
The Memphis kill list includes Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, BYU, (Boise State ha-ha), Cincinatti, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Houston, Kansas, Iowa State, Louisville, Miami Fl, Ole Miss, Miss State, Missouri, South Carolina, Southern California, SMU (Southwestern Days), TCU, and Tennessee. Also UCLA, Vandy, and Wake Forest
Loved Jake on BYU. Very level headed after what was a HUGE win for the Cougars.
What I wonder for them, is if they can use that win as a momentum booster, find ways to make enough improvements on offense and keep that consistentcy with defensive aggression. They aren't out of the race, and the ability to play great defense, win the turnover battle, play disciplined on special teams can always let you win games against "superior" opponents
Jake is the man.
Jake Hatch hit the nail on the head. This BYU offense doesn’t look like it can reliably sustain controlled drives. It’s pretty much a three-and-out or a quick score.
If Retzlaff plays mistake-free and the BYU defense keeps at this level, they can go toe to toe with anyone using that recipe. Problem is that’s against the odds.
Well, this didn't age well. Memphis, Tulane, UTSA and USF decided to stay in the AAC (eyeing the ACC and Big12, no doubt). Seems like a mistake for UTSA -- I doubt they have better options, and they were on a partial share in the AAC.
But the Pac may be back anyway. Utah State made it 7 teams, so they just need one more. And after Utah State left the MWC (dropping it to 7 full members), UNLV is reportedly reconsidering the Pac offer.
To catch the eye
Exit fees! The MWC exit fees are exorbitant for the schools that are left. The MWC schools will make the next move. Do we stay or do we all make a mad dash for the hills? Both the PAC and AAC are hoping for the latter.
There should be a league[NCAA] for each school to produce, promote and disseminate media coverage of college sports. Cut out those formewr cable networks entirely and go in house!
KSU is the kid that pees his pants the first day of kindergarten and still has to try to make friends throughout the year. Could bounce back but its gunna be tough.
Or not
Cal found out about the travel costs this past weekend.
It's worth it for football, but I can't imagine it's going to cover keeping all 28 sports.
Apparently not, well it'll be their loss
The serenity prayer
NO from the AAC schools. No from Air Force. No from Gonzaga. It's looking like the MW is all that's out there.
Actually Gonzaga said yes
Gonzaga is yes but still need at least 2 others
OSU and WSU could work their way into competing for that G5 spot every year if they play this right. It's not all over for them yet lol
I hope the MW creates chaos. Offer Memphis, Tulane, UTSA, Rice, USF & Texas State. The rest of the MW is better than the bottom AAC schools. Conference would be equal if not better than the new PAC with easier travel. Negotiate a better deal with media partners for 2026, take all that exit fee money from the 4 departing schools and create a BIG 12-Lite. Hell, rebrand as the new Southwestern Conference 😂
May have been true...but AAC schools receive $8 million apiece. What did the MWC get?
WAYYYYYYY less than that.
The AAC champion has been the G5 representative since 2017 in the NY6 bowls.
#6 Ole Miss has played
Furman, Middle Tennessee, Wake Forest, and Georgia Southern!
At what point do we the public start punishing these schools in the rankings for these silly schedules that waste our time?
We do it to the G5 or 6 or whatever.
I say if by the end of week 4 that was your schedule then that's on your school. You don't deserve to be ranked #6.
Maybe they are that good but we don't know because as far as I can tell they have been playing High schools.
I was following until you mentioned high schools. Now I think you're a Miss State alum...
@@tilu3303 Uh you wouldn't catch me dead in Mississippi for any reason. I am a rocky mountain man and I can't stand easterners. Ornery mountain man rancher. I don't give 2 licks about Miss State.
If they’re gonna go grab South Florida… they might as well go get Navy, Army & UConn… If it just Memphis & Tulane, I just don’t see why they go an extra 800 miles east.
IMO Pac12 should go all in on a 6 team eastern wing. Memphis, Tulane, USF, UTSA, East Carolina and James Madison. This gets the PAC-12 into 6 mostly growing states. JMU reminds me of when Boise State moved up to FBS. Continued being dominant at next level.
JMU, what have you done for me lately
@@DanFromOR they just beat UNC Chapel Hill and they are are a school that is well funded They have a pretty good record consider that they just moved up to FBS less than 4 years ago..
that travel is still not looking good on the east cost, as outside of ECU/Memphis/JMU it is too speed out on the eastern side. I would say add Liberty and add a school between Florida and Louisiana. They don't have to add them all at once. but they need to have a plan in place to ultimately get to 18 schools and take care of any extra travel costs until they get to that point.
Fresno State welcomes Tulane and Memphis to the PAc 12, a conference of champions
Memphis just got beat by Navy! ROLL GOATS!
I really don’t like when we play Navy early in the year. Great game though.
@@CourtneyWms901 really was a good game.
UNLV and Utah State and if they have to Nevada
Makes no sense. Might as well merge with the MW. PAC-12 wants winners, not losers.
Go Ducks!!!
New “PAC” (Pan-American Conference): Fresno State, Boise State, Oregon State, San Diego, Washington State, Colorado State, Air Force, Wyoming. UNLV, Utah State.
PAC-16 pacific pod Wazzu, OSU, Fresno, SDSU. mtn pod Boise, CSU, UNLV, Utah St. central pod UTSA, Memphis, Tulane, Tx St. Eastern pod Uconn, Liberty, JMU, USF. Almost an automatic qualifier
They'll add Memphis, Tulare, South Florida and be a 9 team conference. The 10th spot is reserve for ND whenever ND decide to join a conference
Well this video aged about as good as milk
My "milk" is still fine. I'm waiting until some of the current media rights deals end in early 2025 because that's when the iron's going to get really hot and some of those "no's" may sound very different.
I think the word you were looking for was attention.
No B1G FANS in the midwest even care.
Who cares what B1G fans thinks? Their opinions on the PAC12 rebuild is not relevant.
Not everyone is in the P4. Most of the FBS teams aren't.
