I currently use whiskey which is free, it doesn't hurt me to pay 60 dollars for a license but my question is is it for life or should I pay again every 12 months?
@@davidpsp89The one-year subscription gives you a forever license to whatever versions of Crossover are released during your subscription period and all older versions. When your subscription expires you lose access to technical support and future updates; but that’s it, you do not need to maintain your license if all the Windows applications you are using work well with the version of Crossover you own. You do need to be careful, however, because future versions of MacOS can introduce problems with older versions of Crossover, problems which the Codeweavers team tend to address quickly and roll into a fast bug-fix release which you can only get with an active subscription.

@@davidpsp89 all CrossOver versions launched before your subscription expires, will be yours and you'll be able to use them without limitations. In case you'd like a newer version, you'd have to subscribe again.
It would be great if you could show it running on M1 or M2 class Macs. The least people have the newest M3 Macs, especially not the most expensive Max with 48Gb.
Didnt even know there were 32 and 48gb macs. No wonder he has smooth experience with these games lmao. Think im just gonna stick with porting kit

The best I can offer you is I have a M3 Pro with 18GB ram and I get pretty much the same performance

Testing on the Max chip alone. Not everyone can afford the highest spec MacBook.
Try looking for „MacBook Air M1 CrossOver 24“ and find someone else who took his time, bought the MacBook, created the video and shared it for free for you to consume

Just a general question. Is the Mac air m1 ok to run these types of games given there’s no fan? I take it the machine would have a fail safe thermal wise if a game was just running off the charts. Just curious about damaging the machine by running intensive games.
I would love to see you test games on base macs! If the base can run it sure the upper macs can! But what you show are upper macs ! So we base users have no idea if it will run on our base models!
$4000 macbook is crazy and I don't think a lot of people have that model.

@@Andytizer I think the best thing to do would be to buy an Xbox one playing on laptops and even PCs to build such rigs is just way to much money to waste to be frank it is coming from someone that plays on PCs but it can save you a lot of money plus on Xbox you can setup a mouse and even a wireless keyboard.
Is there a preferred way to use it, like : always try to see if it works with metal first and if not, then try out dxvk. That is how I do it anyhow. Or does dxvk usually run better?

You should test m1 or m2. It's no surprise that on m3 max of 32+gb the games run well and those who spend 4k for a m3 max don't do it to play
Agreed the base model M3 Macbook pro at most with 16 or 18GB of ram should be the baseline not a $5K Mac only professionals can afford

It's that normal while i am just opening steam from crossover and downloading games, my m3 pro mac book can feel the heat already.

And I have another question, on M3 Max, I tried the Prehistoric Kingdom game, which is a kind of Planet Zoo but with dinosaurs. It's still in development but it's really well made! Anyway, the game worked perfectly, except for two things : when VSync was enabled in game, everything would be in ultra slow-motion. I could move the camera around fast without problem, create buildings, add tress, etc, but it's like the in-game time went 10 times slower. This issue disappeared when Vsync was turned off, but then there was sometimes screen tearing. The second issue is more serious : it was impossible to save or load games! When saving the save icon would spin indefinitely, and continue while playing, but nothing would save. I went to look at the savegame files in the c: drive, and there were folders created with the savegame names, but they were empty.
So if you ever want to try it out and figure out how to solve these issues, I would be super grateful!
Vsync - not sure you should report it as a bug. Savegames - this is normally a permissions issue, make sure CrossOver has full disk access and disable iCloud Documents syncing and see if that helps.

Any progress in Crossover 24 in running older games? These games can't be that difficult to set up for can they? I'm thinking here of games like Elder Scrolls:Oblivion, the Dragons' Age games and maybe even Neverwinter Nights 2?
Is CXPatcher needed (or useful) any longer?

Please test Elden Ring, I really want to play the DLC in June. But it seems like Elden ring only work on D3D Metal but not DXVK, and there is a bug on the resolution where once you go from high to low res, the high res option will disappear. Also, D3D Metal Elden ring on crossover 23.7.1 does not support the steam in game FPS counter, and it does not support controller. All these are fairly minor issues, the main issue is that Elden Ring on Crossover 23.7.1 does not support online play, only offline!

I'm so confused I had Crossover 23 and Diablo 4 was a bit iffy so I heard I needed to use both Crossover and The Mac Porting Tool. Is using both Crossover and The 3 Porting Tool the only way or is just using Crossover 24 on its own better? I have no idea how to use The Mac Porting Tool. Ive recently been using Whiskey to play Palworld on my M3 Max, the whole download/setup process was very easy, I would love to see you compare its performance to Crossover or any other compatibility layer.
What fps do you get using Crossover to play Palworld?
The bottle location folder stuff is major. That was always a reason why I never really liked using crossover as if you moved a folder by accident, you messed up the whole installation.

FINALLY overwatch is playable on my M3, just very ocasional hiccups, just don't enable any avanced option and the game plays almost perfect at 110 fps average, fullscreen (16" in my case) at medium settings with antialias off and rendering at 80%, with custom fps set to 300 👌

i also want to mention that you probably want a software that fixes mouse acceleration, like Steermouse, if you find it hard to aim with MacOS's default one

Did you just do it straight from Crossover 24 or did you add additional patches? Mine was pretty buddy with just Co24 (tho I think I realize now I was playing it with Wine and it using the DX11 stuff) and then patched with Marqasa DXVX and that just broke it completely.
Please test gw2 on world vs world with many users please. Used to drop aorund 5fps on SMC while I was using crossover on m1 pro mbp14 base before (now using a g14 since I miss gaming but wiling to go back to mac if m3 has made significant upgrades)

Interesting! How does it work with external SSDs? Does it keep the fps?
I don't think an SSD will have any significant impact on FPS. This will only affect the loading speed of the games or the maps in it.

What is your recommendation settings for CS2 rossover? I'm currently use Macbook air m2 which is 8 GB ram and 256 GB SSD
Friendly warning - do not try if you have Air, less then 16GB of RAM or less of 8+8 cores. You will probably just waste time. With Macbook Pro with M1 (8+8 cores) with 16GB you can make it playable (just slightly above 60 FPS) on medium settings with a few things on low, but on your hardware you probably will not get more than 30-50 FPS. If you try, please let me know what you got.
I get about 60-90 fps, but there were occasional freezes, I hope it's fixed with the new version.@@viking1304

How do you get control support to work on the horizon zero dawn? I am using an xbox series controller, and it doesn't work even tho connected by Bluetooth and this is also using the latest cross over as well 2.4

This is the one that is of most interest for me too.
It would be very interesting to see the performance of CS2 on basic MacBook Pro M1, M2, M3 with 16-18 GB RAM.
D3DMetal On, MSync On, params -nojoy -fullscreen -high +cl_forcepreload 1 +r_drawparticles 0 +violence_hblood 0 +mat_disable_fancy_blending 1 +r_dynamic 0 -softparticlesdefaultoff Required video settings depends on your specs and preferences. I have (mostly) steady 90-120FPS with default video settings (which are all maxed) on my M3 PRO 18GB. On my old M1 16GB, I had to lower some things to get 60-90FPS. I have no idea which of those parameters actually fixes the crashes and hangs. I just copy-paste them, and crashes and hangs stopped. btw. I haven't noticed any real difference with and without MSync, at least with CS2.
@@BaggerPRO CS2 should be playable as long as it is a MacBook Pro with at least 16GB of RAM. On my old M1 16GB, I had 60-90FPS most of the time using D3D Metal, but I had to lower some video settings.
@@viking1304 Cool! 90-120 FPS looks impressive! But what resolution is set in the game? And will all this work if you connect an external monitor (in particular 144 Hz), mouse and keyboard?
